Chapter 2590: Chapter 2591: The Clan Leader’s Performance

At this moment, it wasn’t just the Law Elder; the other high-ranking members of the various branches were all put on the spot as well.

This generation’s Clan Leader had already stepped into the Martial King Realm. Other than the first Clan Leader, almost none of the later Clan Leaders had reached such a height! Naturally, his prestige was unprecedented!

If they had to choose between the Clan Leader and the clan rules, these people would naturally choose the Clan Leader!

After all, the clan rules were set by people as well. At worst, the Clan Leader could just draft a new set of rules.

It was just that, in the end, this matter still had to be decided by the Law Elder.

”Utter nonsense!” the Law Enforcement Elder suddenly roared in anger. ”Do you really think that with those ridiculous words you can evade your crimes? That list of thirteen charges I just read out—each and every one of them was drawn up according to the clan rules. Men! Execute the two of them at once!”

At those words, not only the two Princesses, but even the surrounding crowd were all greatly shocked!

With this move, wasn’t the Law Elder blatantly offending the Clan Leader’s authority!

Granted, the Law Elder’s position was somewhat special, but in the present Kunshan Tribe, the Clan Leader’s power covered the sky with one hand.

”Law Elder, please quell your anger!” A soft laugh drifted down from the sky.

Then the Clan Leader appeared out of thin air on the sacrificial platform.

”I am acting in accordance with the clan rules. Does the Clan Leader have any objections?” the Law Elder said with a frown. Even facing the Clan Leader, he did not show the slightest fear, nor even the basic respect that should have been there.

Everyone was already used to this. After all, the Law Enforcement Elders through the generations had all been like this. It was something tacitly accepted by the upper echelons of the Kunshan Tribe.

”I have no objections. It’s just that, before the execution, there are a few words I want to say to the two Princesses,” the Clan Leader said with a smile.

Those words were, in effect, an acknowledgement of the Law Elder’s previous sentencing!

It was just that, while the crowd said nothing, in their hearts the Clan Leader’s prestige had inevitably dropped a notch.

”Clan Leader, please speak.” The Law Elder nodded expressionlessly. As long as it did not go against the clan rules, he generally would not refuse.

After that, the Clan Leader walked up to the two Princesses.

”Clan Leader, you really do have a golden tongue. Have you swallowed whole all the promises we made before?”

Seeing the Clan Leader approach, Princess Xiu immediately questioned him.

”Haha! Princess Xiu, there’s no need to be angry!” The Clan Leader not only felt no awkwardness, he instead burst into hearty laughter.

”Ever heard that all’s fair in war and stratagem? You don’t understand even this bit of reasoning? As the leader of Qingxiu Peak, are you really this naive?”

Though his words reeked of treachery, they still made quite a few people around them burst into laughter.

Princess Xiu seized on this point and refused to let go. If the Clan Leader and the Law Elder both rigidly followed the rules, it would indeed cause some trouble.

But the Clan Leader was an old fox, and a shameless old fox at that, so Princess Xiu’s little scheme had practically no effect on him at all.

”I can understand you doing this for Qingxiu Peak. But I, as the Clan Leader of the Kunshan Tribe, must also act for my clansmen. For the sake of my people’s interests, so what if I lose face? Even if one day the Kunshan Tribe faces imminent destruction and I must stake my life, I won’t hesitate in the slightest!”

With that, the Clan Leader suddenly shouted righteously.

At the same time, a powerful aura naturally surged out from his body. This aura had the power to affect people’s thoughts; even the experts within the clan could hardly avoid it!

More importantly, this influence was entirely subtle and subconscious. Almost no one could detect it.

In an instant, the attitudes of almost all the clans toward the Clan Leader changed.

Previously, his prestige had been somewhat affected, but now not only was that impact completely made up for, the clansmen’s loyalty to the Clan Leader had grown even stronger!

This was the Clan Leader’s brilliance. If Ye Luo were here, he would definitely have to admire this method of winning people over.

Sometimes, winning hearts could be as simple as a single sentence!

Of course, that sentence had to fit the timing, taking advantage of heaven and earth’s favor.

”Clan Leader, such righteousness!”

Many people started shouting, and the momentum in the entire great hall reached a new height.

Even the Law Enforcement Elder’s gaze toward the Clan Leader wavered slightly.

”Law Elder, I recall there’s a clause in the clan rules: for remnants of outside tribes, if they are of great benefit to the clan, the execution can be postponed, and when necessary, they can be used in an exchange of benefits,” the Clan Leader suddenly asked in a low voice.

The Law Elder understood the clan rules thoroughly. He nodded almost without thinking.

”Yes, such a provision exists.”

”Good. These two Princesses of Qingxiu Peak are of great use to our clan. As far as I know, the token the Queen left behind back then is on these two Princesses. And that Heart Cultivation Hall, whose whereabouts are currently unknown, also hides enormous secrets. If those secrets are unraveled, our clan’s strength might take yet another great leap forward!” the Clan Leader said gravely. ”Though our clan appears strong now, if another Totem power appears in the world, we would still be vulnerable.”

The Law Elder pondered for a moment, then slowly nodded.

”In that case, these two Kunshan Tribe criminals will be handed over to the Clan Leader for now. Three days from now, I will come to check again. If these two criminals have not, as the Clan Leader claims, produced any concrete benefit for our clan, then don’t blame this old man for what I’ll do!”

With that, without waiting for the Clan Leader to reply, his figure disappeared.

He had given the Clan Leader not the slightest bit of face! Watching his departing back, the Clan Leader’s eyes narrowed. Clearly, his mood had shifted, but with so many clansmen present, he naturally could not lash out.

”You two Princesses, hand over the token, and perhaps I can spare your lives,” the Clan Leader said in a low voice as he came before them.

”Do you think your words are still worth believing?” Princess Xiu replied coldly.

”I already said, as the master of Qingxiu Peak, you shouldn’t be this childish. Your little scheme is nothing in my eyes, merely a bit of petty cleverness. You should know very well that if you truly hand over the token, I obviously have the power to let you live! Besides, your mother and I have some history between us,” the Clan Leader continued.

Since the Clan Leader had put it this way, there was no point in Princess Xiu repeating what she’d said before.

”The token is not on us. You should know that, shouldn’t you?” Princess Xiu suddenly said with a frown.

She refused to believe that after all that time on Qingxiu Peak, the Clan Leader hadn’t learned anything.
