My Silly, Sweet Wife

Gongsun Zhi saw that Gongsun Zhengxing didn’t believe him and rolled his eyes, saying irritably, ”Zhengxing, there’s one more thing I haven’t mentioned. Although it’s not confirmed, it’s just the suspicion of that old Zhang Chonglou. Do you want to hear it?”

Gongsun Zhengxing, seeing Gongsun Zhi’s serious expression, realized his earlier frivolity and quickly put away his playful demeanor, saying, ”Father, go ahead and speak. I really want to hear what kind of skills this Ye Guichen has that not only wins your high regard but also makes you praise him so excessively.”

”Humph, shallow.” Gongsun Zhi didn’t explain further but lowered his voice, ”This Ye Guichen is very likely the son of the Hidden Sect Netherworld Emperor.”

”Pfft!” Gongsun Zhengxing almost spat out a mouthful of blood, his pupils dilating in disbelief as he looked at Gongsun Zhi, then shook his head vigorously, ”No, it’s impossible, absolutely impossible!”

Recalling that Huang Fuqi previously said the Hall Master of Eternal Life Hall was the Netherworld Emperor’s son, Gongsun Zhengxing’s first thought was that Gongsun Zhi had been fooled.

But, since such things are secret, Gongsun Zhengxing swallowed back the words he was about to say.

”Why, why are you so strongly reacting?” Gongsun Zhi hadn’t expected Gongsun Zhengxing to be so agitated but didn’t mind and continued, ”You might think I’m being too calculating, but we are all ordinary people, pursuing nothing but the prosperity of our offspring and the flourishing of our family. If this Ye Guichen really is the Netherworld Emperor’s son, one day he will become the new Netherworld Emperor, and by then, our Gongsun Family might become the number one family in this world. Imagine that kind of honor for yourself.”

Gongsun Zhengxing’s throat moved twice, suddenly at a loss for words.

After holding back for a long time, Gongsun Zhengxing couldn’t help but speak, ”Father, I know you hope for the everlasting prosperity of our Gongsun Family, but this is too far-fetched. Anyway, I don’t believe it. Besides, even if we concede, and he really is the Netherworld Emperor’s son, by then he would surely be drawn into chaos, and our Gongsun Family might not escape it either. Whether he could finally become the Netherworld Emperor is unknown.”

”Father, I’m not trying to discourage you, but you’re gambling with the future of our Gongsun Family.”

Gongsun Zhi suddenly felt melancholic and sighed deeply, ”Zhengxing, you should know that in my youth, I also practiced in the Heavenly Master Tao, right?”

Seeing Gongsun Zhi suddenly become serious, Gongsun Zhengxing quickly nodded, ”I know, it’s not a secret. You said that in your youthful exuberance, your skills in Taoist teachings were exceptionally high, even surpassing the current Master Zhang. You even said you might have become the Sect Leader of the Heavenly Master Tao.”

”Indeed, but alas, fate played a trick on me. If it weren’t for an accident, I might be the Sect Leader of the Heavenly Master Tao today. But I was forced to take a dire oath, not only denying myself the use of Taoism but also forbidding my descendants from practicing it. Do you know the real reason behind this?”

Gongsun Zhengxing shook his head, ”I only know you accidentally killed someone using Taoism, so you were punished and forbidden to use it, but the specific reason, I’m not aware.”

”Alright, I’ll tell you today. Actually, it wasn’t an accidental killing back then. Someone was afraid that my talent in Taoism would overshadow them and deliberately framed me to force me into taking that oath.”

Gongsun Zhengxing was somewhat incredulous, ”Father, who was it?”

”That person is already dead, but that family still exists. However, only that old Zhang Chonglou and I know about this matter, and no one else does. It’s not the time for me to tell you who they are because, in their eyes, we are nothing more than ants.”

”I originally thought that this matter would be my shame for this lifetime. Although Zhang Chonglou never mentioned it, that incident is a permanent wound in my heart. I’ve always felt incapable of seeking revenge in this life and wanted to seal this part of my history in memory. But now, seeing Ye Guichen rekindles my hope.”

”Perhaps the humiliation of the past can be avenged, and my talent in Taoism should see its deserved utilization!”

His eyes blazed fiercely, like flames rising.

Gongsun Zhengxing had never seen Gongsun Zhi in this manner and was stunned, tentatively asking, ”Father, our Gongsun Family is already a leading force in Quanzhou, but you say I currently don’t even have the right to know them—could it be someone from the Capital City?”

”I said it’s not the right time now!” Gongsun Zhi’s face suddenly turned cold, ”Zhengxing, I’ve told you enough for today. Just focus on your own tasks. Don’t attempt to investigate or probe into the affairs of that time. If they find out I’m still alive, they might target our Gongsun Family. Remember, knowing when to keep a low profile is important, but staying low is just to one day soar to great heights.”

Gongsun Zhengxing knew his father was deeply obsessed with past events. Seeing him unwilling to continue, he had to nod, but he always harbored doubts about Ye Guichen.

How could there be two Sons of the Netherworld Emperor?

As he pondered, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Gongsun Zhengxing ran to open the door, only to be stunned, ”Xuanji, why are you here?”

Outside stood Liu Xuanji.

Liu Xuanji, seeing Gongsun Zhengxing at the door, was also momentarily stunned and hurriedly greeted, ”Uncle Gongsun, I, I came to speak to Fengying about something.”

Gongsun Zhengxing always knew Liu Xuanji liked Gongsun Fengying, and seeing his hesitant manner, he couldn’t help but be struck by an idea.

Isn’t this the perfect opportunity to test that Ye Guichen fellow?

Since Ye Guichen was almost being lauded to the skies by Gongsun Zhi, if he saw Ye Guichen alone with his daughter, knowing Liu Xuanji’s temperament, he’d surely blow up.

By then, it would be a good time to beat up Ye Guichen a bit to let Gongsun Zhi see what kind of person he’s lauding.

Thinking of this, Gongsun Zhengxing feigned a troubled expression, ”Xuanji, it might not be convenient right now.”

”Ah? Uncle, is Sister Fengying not here?”

”That’s not it, but someone is with her at the moment.”

”Who?” Liu Xuanji clenched his fists, ”Uncle, I...”

Before Liu Xuanji could finish, Gongsun Zhengxing interrupted, ”Xuanji, I’ve always been quite satisfied with you. If you really like Fengying, then go in and give a good lesson to the person inside with her. Remember, don’t be too harsh, just enough to show him his place. Can you do that?”

Liu Xuanji never expected Gongsun Zhengxing to make such a request.

But the thought of someone getting close to Gongsun Fengying made him uncomfortable, so he vigorously nodded, ”Uncle, I understand what you mean. Don’t worry, I know my limits.”

”Good!” Gongsun Zhengxing smiled slyly, slapped Liu Xuanji on the shoulder, and said loudly, ”Oh, Xuanji, you’re here to see Fengying; she’s inside, go in yourself.”

Then, he made way for Liu Xuanji.
