My Silly, Sweet Wife

The talisman paper was black, with runes drawn in cinnabar on it.

Zhang Chongchen pointed at the talisman paper and explained, ”This is a Mid-upper Grade Black Talisman that my second brother prepared for me before I set out, fearing I couldn’t handle it. It’s called the Gold Light Talisman, and once used, it can directly destroy a soul. However, this talisman can only be used at the most critical moment, because if we fail, there might never be another chance. So, if possible, we need to prepare more of them.”

Ye Guichen nodded, ”Alright, I understand. I’ll try drawing the Gold Light Talisman first, then.”

Zhang Chongchen indeed had quite a few talisman papers with him.

Ye Guichen didn’t stand on ceremony. After Zhang Chongchen stepped out, he then began drawing the Gold Light Talisman.

Zhang Chongchen was worried that something might happen to Ye Guichen while drawing the talisman, so he didn’t dare to leave, staying near the door instead, listening.

Time ticked by, two to three hours passed, and the study remained extremely quiet.

Gongsun Fengying, finding himself idle, saw Zhang Chongchen lingering outside the study and curiously asked, ”Daoist Zhang, is everything alright?”

Zhang Chongchen furrowed his brows and shook his head, ”It’s alright.”

”Where is Ye Guichen?”

”He’s inside drawing the Gold Light Talisman.” Zhang Chongchen didn’t hide it.

”What?” Gongsun Fengying exclaimed, immediately covering his mouth, ”Daoist Zhang, you must be joking, right? The Gold Light Talisman is already considered a Mid-upper Grade talisman, without decades of talisman skills, how could it possibly be drawn?”

Zhang Chongchen gave a bitter smile, ”Mr. Ye insisted, there’s nothing I can do.”

”How can that be!! What if something goes wrong while drawing the talisman, isn’t that a danger to others!” Gongsun Fengying, clearly knowledgeable about Daoist matters, chose not to waste more words with Zhang Chongchen, kicked the door open with a curse, ”So arrogant! Really thinks he’s a genius, huh? I admit you’re strong in martial arts and medicine, but talisman-making isn’t something you can just dabble in; one mistake and you could die...”

After kicking the door open, Gongsun Fengying looked up and was utterly dumbfounded.

The room had become a chaotic mess.

There were scraps of paper all over the floor.

Ye Guichen’s face was also smeared with quite a bit of cinnabar.

And on the table, quietly lay five black talisman papers.

Covered with dense runes.

”Are you, are you alright?” Gongsun Fengying, seeing that Ye Guichen seemed fine, hesitated for a moment before asking.

Ye Guichen raised his head, his eyes slightly reddened, and looked blankly at Gongsun Fengying, ”What could be wrong with me?”

”As long as you’re alright.” Gongsun Fengying huffed, ”The Gold Light Talisman isn’t something you can draw lightly, better stop while you can.”

Ye Guichen, puzzled, asked, ”Really? I didn’t find it that hard.”

While talking, he waved the few black talismans on the table, ”But these densely packed runes are indeed somewhat exhausting, drawing these talismans made my head throb. I’m going to rest a bit, by midnight, I should be ready to act.”

Then, he walked straight to the sofa against the study wall, lay down without even removing his clothes, and immediately fell asleep.

Gongsun Fengying, skeptical that Ye Guichen could draw the Gold Light Talisman, huffed, approached to check the black talismans left on the table, and soon wore an odd expression.

Zhang Chongchen also leaned over, eyes widening in shock as he looked at those Gold Light Talismans, his mouth gaping as if he could barely contain the astonishment, as if a fist could be stuffed inside.

After a long while, Zhang Chongchen took a deep look at the already sleeping Ye Guichen and murmured, ”No wonder, no wonder! This Mr. Ye is not some monster, he’s basically a deity! No wonder Master is so fond of him; with such talent, not practicing Daoism would indeed be a waste!”

”Haha, compared to Mr. Ye, even our second brother, hailed as a talisman prodigy, is probably left in the dust.”

Full of admiration, his tone indistinguishable between sorrow and joy.

In any case, his eyes were filled with respect.

Gongsun Fengying, though aware of the Gold Light Talisman, couldn’t tell if Ye Guichen’s drawings were good and asked in confusion, ”Daoist Zhang, has Ye Guichen really drawn the Gold Light Talisman?”

Zhang Chongchen stared at Gongsun Fengying, smiling bitterly, ”If I told you, I’ve practiced Daoism for over thirty years, yet I’m not as good as Mr. Ye in just a few hours, would you believe me?”

...

At midnight, Ye Guichen had already woken up.

Though he hadn’t slept for long, his energy was fully restored.

One couldn’t deny, drawing talismans was not just physically, but also mentally taxing.

Ye Guichen felt that drawing four Gold Light Talismans was as exhausting as fighting a well-matched expert for two hours, leaving him utterly spent.

”Mr. Ye, you’re awake?” Zhang Chongchen eagerly approached when he saw Ye Guichen had woken up, looking at him with anticipation.

Ye Guichen smiled apologetically, ”Daoist Zhang, are my talismans alright?”

”Alright, alright, they’re really alright.” Zhang Chongchen didn’t know how to express himself, glancing out the window, ”Tonight it’s overcast, the weather forecast says it will rain, though we scared that water monkey during the day, if we go searching, we should find it, should we...”

Ye Guichen naturally understood Zhang Chongchen’s intent, wanting to eliminate the water monkey swiftly to prevent future troubles.

”Sure, I’m fine with it.” Ye Guichen shared the same thought, regardless of who was behind the water monkey, eliminating it was paramount.

He got up from the sofa, quickly ate something with Zhang Chongchen, instructed Gongsun Fengying and the others to lock the doors and not come out, then he and Zhang Chongchen headed to the artificial lake.

Yet, before they could reach the artificial lake, they were stopped by two security guards.

”Sorry, Mr. Ye, our Manager Xie said nobody is allowed near the artificial lake.” One of the guards said.

Ye Guichen glanced at the speaking guard, ”Why?”

”We’re just following orders, really sorry.” The two guards, knowing Mr. Ye was a powerful and wealthy owner there, dared not be confrontational.

But since Xie Fang had issued strict orders, they had to comply.

Originally, this time, they should be at home enjoying time with their wives, but now they were stuck doing night shifts; although reluctant, they had no choice but to take the employer’s money.

Ye Guichen realized arguing with these guards was pointless, ”Call your Manager Xie, I’ll speak to him personally.”

”Alright!” The guards didn’t hesitate.

They couldn’t defy Xie Fang’s orders, nor did they want to provoke Ye Guichen.

Besides, Xie Fang was just sleeping at the property office and instructed them to call him for anything urgent.

Soon enough, Xie Fang arrived.

Upon seeing Ye Guichen and Zhang Chongchen fully geared up, he felt a jolt in his stomach.

His brother-in-law, Zhu He, had already cautioned him not to let anyone harm whatever was in the artificial lake.
