Chapter 154: Chapter 132: An Unknown Danger That Cannot Be Taken Lightly

Fang Xiu and Ye Fan delved deeper into the forest once more.

Both of them were using all their strength, moving at top speed.

At this moment, the surrounding environment seemed unusually quiet.

”Brother Fang, is your plan really going to work?”

Ye Fan asked as he ran.

”It should work!”

Fang Xiu answered after a moment of thought.

In truth, it was his first time encountering a Beast Tide as well.

He had no idea if the plan would actually work.

”I’m not doubting you, Brother Fang, but... what if the Demon Beasts here join the Beast Tide?”

This question suddenly occurred to Ye Fan.

If the local Demon Beasts didn’t attack the ones in the Beast Tide, and chose to join them instead, then they’d really be playing with fire!

”That’s not impossible. For now, we’ll just have to play it by ear!”

Fang Xiu had naturally considered this possibility as well.

But Fang Xiu believed there had to be some sort of connection holding the Beast Tide together.

Otherwise, it would be impossible for them to so cohesively chase after two people.

Some would inevitably fall behind as they ran.

But these Demon Beasts, even the slow ones, kept running with the pack.

If it were just one type of Demon Beast, that would be easy to explain.

But the Demon Beasts in this Beast Tide weren’t a single species; they were a mix of many.

There had to be some connection that brought them all together.

It was impossible that a passing Demon Beast would simply join in.

Demon Beasts had their own rules.

It was just that these rules weren’t something humans could comprehend.

Fang Xiu could only hope the high-level Demon Beasts here wouldn’t be drawn in by such rules.

”ROAR!”

At this very moment, the Demon Beasts behind them suddenly let out another angry roar.

”They sound agitated!”

Fang Xiu could tell.

The sounds coming from the pursuing Demon Beasts were filled with unease.

”There must be a powerful Demon Beast nearby, right?”

Ye Fan glanced around curiously.

He was somewhat relieved that the local Demon Beasts could frighten the ones in the Beast Tide.

But he was also worried, wondering what kind of creatures they might be.

”I don’t see any Demon Beasts.”

Fang Xiu looked around but didn’t find any trace of them.

This meant any Demon Beast here was likely incredibly powerful.

Merely entering its territory was enough to frighten the Demon Beasts in the Beast Tide.

’If that’s the case,’ Fang Xiu thought, ’shaking off the Beast Tide might just lead to another problem.’

”ROAR!”

Just then, the Demon Beasts roared once again.

Then, they actually sped up considerably.

”The Demon Beasts are speeding up. They must want to finish us off quickly so they can escape this area!”

Fang Xiu glanced at the Demon Beasts behind them and said with a sigh, ”I have good news and bad news. The good news is, we might be about to escape the Beast Tide. The bad news is, we might run into an even stronger Demon Beast!”

”That... It’s okay! I’ll just follow you, Brother Fang!”

Ye Fan was a little surprised.

But his surprise quickly turned into determination.

They had already run this far; he had no other choice.

His strength just wasn’t enough.

He could only follow Fang Xiu.

Besides, he had gained a lot by following Fang Xiu.

He had already promised to stick with Fang Xiu.

Besides, if he were on his own right now, he definitely wouldn’t be able to escape this forest.

”Right. No matter what Level the Demon Beast is, it’s better than a Beast Tide.”

Fang Xiu nodded slightly.

He picked up his pace as well.

A Level 70 or even a Level 80 Demon Beast was something Fang Xiu had ways to deal with.

But with a Beast Tide, you kill one wave, and another just takes its place.

They were endless.

If he were to actually fight within the Beast Tide, he could exhaust all his Spiritual Power and still not be able to kill them all.

What’s more, Fang Xiu was only a Level 26 Awakened.

His own Spiritual Power reserves weren’t that large.

The reason Fang Xiu was looking for a more powerful Demon Beast was simple: a powerful Demon Beast could suppress these Low Level Demon Beasts through its bloodline.

Even though they had formed a Beast Tide, the innate bloodline suppression wouldn’t just disappear.

A powerful bloodline was what allowed a Demon Beast to reach a higher Level.

And a powerful bloodline could also suppress other Demon Beasts.

When the time came, Fang Xiu would only need to hunt a single Level 70 or Level 80 Demon Beast.

That would be much simpler than fending off a Beast Tide.

”ROAR!!!”

The Demon Beasts were still roaring.

But Fang Xiu and Ye Fan still hadn’t seen any other Demon Beasts appear.

’Strange. Are the Demon Beasts around here really that powerful? They haven’t even made a sound, yet the ones in the Beast Tide are terrified?’

Fang Xiu scanned his surroundings as he ran.

The local Demon Beast seemed a little too powerful.

’Could it really suppress a Level 65 Demon Beast just with its lingering scent?’

’If so, what Level is this Demon Beast?’

’Level 80? Level 90?’

’An Elite Monster? A BOSS?’

All of this was unknown to Fang Xiu.

The two of them just kept running deeper into the forest.

”ROAR!”

The roars of the Demon Beasts behind them grew even more urgent, and their speed had increased as well.

”They’re getting desperate!”

Ye Fan felt a surge of excitement upon hearing the roars.

His thinking was the same as Fang Xiu’s: there was no way to survive a Beast Tide.

But against a single Demon Beast, even a Level 100 BOSS, they’d at least have a chance to run.

This was the difference between a single entity and a group.

”Be careful. Something’s strange!”

Fang Xiu looked at the Demon Beasts behind him.

If there were really a Demon Beast here that scared them, it would have appeared by now.

After all, both the Beast Tide and the two of them had already entered its territory.

But from beginning to end, no other Demon Beast had appeared.

”Yeah!”

Ye Fan nodded heavily.

As someone who had been hunting Demon Beasts, he also felt something was off.

Previously, if you walked into a Demon Beast’s territory, you would definitely be attacked.

But now, they had been in this ”Demon Beast’s” territory for so long and hadn’t seen a single one.

”You don’t think it was scared off by the Beast Tide, do you?”

Ye Fan voiced his thoughts.

”This Demon Beast can suppress the ones in the Beast Tide because of its bloodline. But maybe it doesn’t dare to come out. After all, one Demon Beast against a whole Beast Tide seems like a bad bet.”

”That’s not impossible.”

Fang Xiu nodded slightly.

That was a possibility.

However, Fang Xiu was more inclined to believe that the local Demon Beast could intimidate the Beast Tide with its scent alone.

’But... does a Demon Beast like that really exist?’

’Or... is the thing that’s scaring the Beast Tide not a powerful Demon Beast at all?’

’Is it because this place itself is special?’

A sense of unease crept into Fang Xiu’s heart.

The known isn’t frightening; the unknown is what’s truly terrifying.

Fang Xiu became even more vigilant.

If that high-level Demon Beast really existed, even if it was evenly matched with the Beast Tide, it would have attacked them.

But now, there wasn’t a single trace.

Fang Xiu felt that the Demon Beasts in the tide weren’t afraid of another powerful Demon Beast, but of this place itself.

”Brother Fang, it looks like a lot of the Demon Beasts have stopped!”

Just then, Ye Fan ran to Fang Xiu’s side and said.

Fang Xiu looked back at the Beast Tide.

Sure enough, many of the Demon Beasts had stopped in their tracks.

This included the one running at the very front.

That was the Demon Beast that had been chasing them the most fiercely.

And now, it had stopped.

It was pacing anxiously on the spot.

Although there was no barrier or anything like that around, Fang Xiu could tell this Demon Beast... it didn’t dare to advance.

”There’s definitely something here that scares those Demon Beasts, but it’s absolutely not a high-level Demon Beast!”

Fang Xiu watched the Demon Beasts, staying in place.

After a moment’s hesitation, he cast a Skill behind him.

”Netherworld Thunder Fall!”

Countless bolts of Thunder gathered around Fang Xiu, then shot directly toward the stationary Demon Beasts.

”ROAR!”

Fang Xiu controlled the Thunder and didn’t go for the kill.

He just wanted to taunt the halted Demon Beasts, to see if they would resume their chase.

But as the Thunder swept past, Fang Xiu could only see the Demon Beasts roaring angrily in place.

They simply didn’t dare to move forward.

’Why is that?’

Fang Xiu was curious.

These Demon Beasts clearly had nothing blocking them, yet it was as if an invisible wall had stopped them in their tracks.

It was just that this invisible wall seemed to only block some of them.

The remaining powerful Demon Beasts hadn’t stopped; they were still in pursuit.

SNAP!

Fang Xiu snapped his fingers.

Instantly, the bolts of Thunder struck the Demon Beasts.

Since Fang Xiu had already used a Skill, it would be a waste not to kill a few Demon Beasts.

”ROAR!”

Many Demon Beasts were roaring angrily.

And Fang Xiu discovered that every time they reached a new spot, Demon Beasts of a different Level would stop.

At first, it was just the Low Level Demon Beasts.

But later, more and more high-level Demon Beasts also stopped.

’Are we heading toward the very place the Demon Beasts find dangerous?’

Fang Xiu thought to himself.

He could sense that these Demon Beasts were afraid of something here.

And he and Ye Fan were getting closer and closer to that special place.

’I wonder what it could be?’

Fang Xiu was both worried and curious.

’Since it can stop a Beast Tide in its tracks... this place must be extraordinary.’

’Maybe I’ll even find an unexpected reward.’

”Brother Fang, all the Demon Beasts have stopped!”

Ye Fan was panting heavily.

He had just been running with all his might.

He was almost caught by the Beast Tide.

Luckily, the Demon Beasts had inexplicably stopped at the last second.

”Yeah, but don’t let your guard down. If I’m not mistaken, we are now heading in an even more dangerous direction!”

Fang Xiu nodded slightly.

He slowed from a sprint to a walk.

He also drank a Recovery Potion to restore his spent Spiritual Power.

The unknown danger here meant Fang Xiu couldn’t afford to be careless!
