Peerless Medical Emperor

To be honest, Zheng Shifang didn’t have much confidence in the physicians who had passed the assessment.

After all, his son’s condition had been deteriorating for some time now.

He felt that these two physicians before him would likely fail as well.

Still, since they had passed the assessment, he should at least let them try.

’What if, by some chance, they succeeded?’

”You two, please follow me.”

”When you see my son in a moment, you must not be alarmed, no matter what,”

Zheng Shifang said.

”I’m a physician. How could I be surprised? I’ve seen plenty of strange diseases,”

Zhuge Yunduan said.

Zheng Shifang glanced back at Zhuge Yunduan. He looked like he wanted to say something, but in the end, he kept it to himself.

Soon, Zheng Shifang led them to the door of an upstairs room.

He didn’t enter immediately, however. Instead, he knocked lightly on the door.

”Come in.”

A voice soon answered from within.

Chen Qingdi was very curious. ’Who could be in Zheng Shifang’s son’s room?’

Judging by the sound, it was the voice of a very old man.

CREAK—the door was pushed open.

Zhuge Yunduan immediately craned his neck to peer inside.

Zheng Shifang then led the two of them into his son’s room.

He did, however, instruct Chen Qingdi and the other man to be quiet and not to disturb his son’s rest.

As soon as he stepped inside, Chen Qingdi saw a young man in his twenties lying on the bed.

Beside the bed stood an elderly man in his seventies, wearing a white physician’s coat. His gaze was sharp and cold.

When Chen Qingdi and Zhuge Yunduan entered, the old man merely shot them a quick glance before turning away.

”Young Master Zheng has fallen asleep.”

”His condition has worsened.”

”I believe, Patriarch Zheng, that you can begin preparing for the funeral.”

The old man spoke slowly, but his first words struck like a thunderclap.

Hearing this, the color drained from Zheng Shifang’s face.

”I’ve invited two physicians. Let them take a look as well,”

Zheng Shifang said.

”It would be useless even if you brought in an immortal,”

the old man replied.

Chen Qingdi didn’t know who the old man was, but he could see that Patriarch Zheng held him in very high esteem. ’He must be a highly respected senior in the medical field,’ he thought, ’but I don’t recognize him.’

”And this is...?”

Zhuge Yunduan asked, also curious.

”This is Situ Xian, one of the Ten Great Divine Physicians of the Dragon Country.”

”I brought him here from Kyoto,”

Zheng Shifang explained.

Upon hearing this, Zhuge Yunduan’s expression became one of deep respect as he looked at Situ Xian.

”So it’s the renowned Elder Situ Xian.”

”Forgive my rudeness. I never expected to meet you here.”

With a fawning smile, Zhuge Yunduan walked up to Situ Xian and extended his hand, hoping to shake it.

But Situ Xian didn’t even glance at him.

This left Zhuge Yunduan in an awkward position.

”Even if you passed the Zheng Family’s assessment, you can’t treat this illness.”

”So I suggest you leave,”

Situ Xian said haughtily.

As a man in his seventies who had reached Situ Xian’s level of prestige, he felt he didn’t need to show deference to anyone.

Besides, he was convinced that not even an immortal could cure Young Master Zheng.

Those hoping to get their hands on the Zheng Family Company or its treasures could forget about it.

”Not necessarily.”

”I think I can give it a try,”

Chen Qingdi spoke up.

”You can give it a try? How?”

Zhuge Yunduan shot Chen Qingdi a contemptuous look, clearly not believing he had any real ability.

”A physician should have the heart of a parent.”

”Regardless, Mr. Situ, you should let us try,”

Chen Qingdi said.

”Yes, Mr. Situ, why not just let them try?”

”Perhaps a miracle will happen,”

Zheng Shifang said.

Even as he said it, he didn’t believe it himself.

”Fine. If they want to try, let them try.”

Situ Xian stood up, preparing to leave.

”Mr. Situ, you can’t leave,”

Zheng Shifang said with a smile, stepping in front of Situ Xian to block his path.

”They’re juniors, after all. They might do something inappropriate. If you stay, you could guide them. I’m begging you,”

Zheng Shifang pleaded.

”Let me go first,”

Zhuge Yunduan said.

Zhuge Yunduan wore a haughty expression, completely dismissing Chen Qingdi.

Seeing Zhuge Yunduan’s conceited look, Chen Qingdi decided not to stoop to his level and simply stepped aside.

”Then please, be my guest,”

Chen Qingdi said.

Because Young Master Zheng was completely wrapped in bandages, it was impossible to know if he was truly covered in weeds, as the rumors claimed.

But from the looks of it, Young Master Zheng’s illness was likely something an ordinary person had never even seen before.

”Young Master Zheng... what exactly is his condition?”

”Elder Situ, have you reached a diagnosis?”

Zhuge Yunduan asked, looking at Situ Xian.

”You can see for yourself.”

”Patriarch Zheng, there’s no need to keep Young Master Zheng so tightly wrapped.”

Situ Xian glanced at Zheng Shifang.

”Mm.”

”See for yourself, Mr. Zhuge,”

Zheng Shifang said.

Zhuge Yunduan had already noticed that Young Master Zheng was wrapped in layer upon layer of bandages on the bed.

”May I remove the cloths wrapped around Young Master Zheng?”

Zhuge Yunduan glanced at Zheng Shifang, who stood to the side.

”You may,”

Zheng Shifang said.

There was no way to examine him without removing the wrappings.

It was impossible to understand the situation otherwise.

”I hope you’re mentally prepared for what you’ll see when you remove those cloths from Young Master Zheng,”

Situ Xian warned, glancing at Zhuge Yunduan.

Zhuge Yunduan was puzzled. ’I need to be mentally prepared just to examine a patient? Is it really that serious?’

”What preparation do I need to see a patient?”

Zhuge Yunduan said with a laugh.

In any case, Situ Xian had given his warning. If the other man didn’t understand, it wasn’t his fault.

Situ Xian turned his head to the side.

Zhuge Yunduan began to remove the cloths from Young Master Zheng’s body, one by one.

When Young Master Zheng’s body was finally exposed...

...he was startled by a patch of lush, green hair covering it.

At first glance, it looked just like a patch of overgrown weeds.

It also emanated a nauseating stench.

The moment the cloths were fully removed, a puff of green mist shot into the air.

Zhuge Yunduan happened to inhale it.

Immediately, the world began to spin. Zhuge Yunduan swayed, unable to stay on his feet, and with a THUD, he collapsed to the floor.

The green mist was poisonous.

Just then, Situ Xian had already plugged his nostrils.

Chen Qingdi, however, who stood to the side, watched this scene unfold with perfect composure. He had been prepared for this all along.
