I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 262: Chapter 260: Do You Know Who You Are?

They went to the nearest hospital.

Zhuang Yanzheng’s arm wound needed stitches.

Su Miaoyi’s arm wound also needed to be stitched up.

The other various cuts on her body all needed to be cleaned and bandaged.

The wound on her abdomen had bled a lot, but it wasn’t deep. By the time they reached the hospital, the bleeding had already stopped, so it just needed to be bandaged.

She also had a knife wound on her thigh and injuries on her back.

Su Miaoyi didn’t make a sound, her face betraying no reaction as the doctor treated her wounds.

When her wounds were treated and she came out, Lu Zhishen was waiting outside.

”Where are the others?” Su Miaoyi asked.

Lu Zhishen looked at her. ”Zhuang Yanzheng went back to the Municipal Bureau. Brother Zheng is by the emergency room. The little boy who was kidnapped is also in this hospital.”

”Where?” Su Miaoyi asked.

”You should rest first.” Lu Zhishen glanced at her body.

When she arrived, she was covered in wounds, some still oozing blood.

Now they were all bandaged. She was still wearing the same clothes, and you could see the gauze underneath through the rips in the fabric.

”I don’t need to,” Su Miaoyi said. ”Where?”

Lu Zhishen led her toward the emergency room.

They walked in silence for a stretch. Lu Zhishen glanced at her, then glanced at her again, before asking, ”Do you know me?”

Su Miaoyi looked at him. ”Lu Zhishen.”

Lu Zhishen nodded.

’She knows me.’

’But it feels like I don’t know her anymore.’

”Do you know who you are?” Lu Zhishen asked again.

”Su Miaoyi.” Her voice was cold, the last syllable tinged with impatience.

Lu Zhishen heard it, so he stopped asking questions.

’My snack buddy has a problem,’ he thought.

’A very serious problem.’

They were silent the rest of the way to the emergency room doors.

Brother Zheng looked at Su Miaoyi and was about to speak when a figure suddenly rushed over and grabbed her arm.

Only Su Miaoyi’s stitched arm had been anesthetized; her other wounds were just bandaged.

The woman’s sudden grip was right on one of her wounds, and Su Miaoyi’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Lu Zhishen and Brother Zheng grabbed the woman’s arms at the same time.

But the woman was clutching Su Miaoyi’s arm so tightly that the two men didn’t dare pull too hard.

”Let go!” Brother Zheng ordered sharply.

The woman didn’t let go, still gripping Su Miaoyi’s arm. ”This is all your fault! All your fault! What did my son do wrong? What did I do wrong to get stuck with a neighbor like you! If it wasn’t for you, this wouldn’t have happened to my son! If anything happens to him, I’ll never let you go! I’ll make you pay with your life!”

”Let go,” Su Miaoyi said, her brow furrowing.

”What’s with that attitude? My son is in there because of you, and this is your attitude?!” the woman screamed.

”The person who kidnapped your son has been caught. She will pay for it with her life,” Su Miaoyi said. ”Direct your anger at the right person. Let go.”

As she spoke, she pried the woman’s fingers off her arm.

Brother Zheng immediately pulled the woman away.

Su Miaoyi said nothing and asked no questions.

Everyone was waiting outside, which meant the situation inside was still unknown.

She walked to the side and sat down.

After a moment’s thought, Lu Zhishen also went and sat down beside her. A short while later, he pulled a small bag of cookies from his pocket and offered it to her.

Su Miaoyi glanced at it, took it, tore open the package, and started eating.

There were only three cookies in the package, and she finished them quickly.

Then she paused for two seconds, as if considering something, and held her hand out to Lu Zhishen.

Lu Zhishen stared at her outstretched hand, stunned for a moment. Then he quickly patted his pockets, finally pulling a pack of candies from his pants pocket for her. ”They’re really sour. Want one?”

Without a word, Su Miaoyi took the pack, popped a candy into her mouth, and a few seconds later, she squeezed her eyes shut from the sourness.

Lu Zhishen observed her.

He watched as, besides squeezing her eyes shut, her expression remained blank. She just endured it without saying a word.

’If this were any other time, Su Miaoyi would have already cried out, and then complained about it.’

But now she just sat there, expressionless and silent.

The candy was truly too sour. After eating one, Su Miaoyi gave the rest back to Lu Zhishen.

”No more?” Lu Zhishen asked, just to make conversation.

Su Miaoyi just handed the candy to him without speaking.

Then she leaned back against the chair and closed her eyes.

Worried she was tired and that her injuries hurt, Lu Zhishen sat quietly and didn’t speak again.

Almost half an hour later, the doors to the emergency room opened.

Su Miaoyi opened her eyes and looked over.

As Lu Zhishen stood up, he glanced at her and realized she hadn’t been sleeping, just keeping her eyes closed.

The doctor announced that the boy was out of danger and just needed to be hospitalized for a few days of observation.

Hearing this, the woman burst into tears, thanking the doctor profusely.

Everyone else also breathed a sigh of relief.

Hearing that the boy was okay, Su Miaoyi lowered her gaze again, staring at the gauze on her arm.

Lu Zhishen exchanged a few words with Brother Zheng, then planned to head back first.

”Let’s head back first,” Lu Zhishen said.

Su Miaoyi got up and followed him out.

Once in the car, Lu Zhishen asked, ”I’ll take you home?”

”Back to the bureau,” Su Miaoyi said.

Lu Zhishen drove back to the Municipal Bureau.

By the time they arrived at the Municipal Bureau, Zhuang Yanzheng had already interrogated Mia once.

”Why didn’t you go home?” Zhuang Yanzheng asked, looking at her injuries.

”Did she say anything?” Su Miaoyi asked.

”No.” Zhuang Yanzheng hooked a chair with his foot and pulled it over for her. ”She said she’s a killer, gets paid for the job, and doesn’t know anything else.”

Su Miaoyi sat down and was silent for a few seconds. ”She is a killer. I’ve met her before.”

Zhuang Yanzheng was surprised. ”When did you meet her?”

”In Country D. We fought. I defeated her,” Su Miaoyi said. ”I just remember meeting her. I can’t recall why or how.”

That was in Country D, when Qin Leyan was working undercover.

”Her marksmanship is terrible, absolute trash.” Su Miaoyi’s tone was full of disdain, her eyes filled with contempt. ”Her combat skills... are mediocre trash, I guess.”

Her poor marksmanship was likely the reason Mia didn’t use a gun in her close-quarters attack.

”How can you say something like that, in that tone, while covered in injuries?” Zhuang Yanzheng asked her.

Su Miaoyi lifted her gaze to glance at him. ”This body... isn’t very functional right now.”

In fact, Su Miaoyi had been working very hard. As long as there wasn’t a case keeping her up all night, she was always exercising and training.

And she was steadily increasing the intensity of her training.

It was just... her physical body was part of the problem, and also... it seemed most of her combat prowess was allotted to her other personality.

Lu Zhishen: ”...”

’Just listen to the things she says.’

’If anyone else had said that, I wouldn’t have listened for a second. I’d have just turned and walked away, cursing ’crazy person’ under my breath.’

Zhuang Yanzheng’s lips twitched, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything.

Back in the day, Qin Leyan had been the absolute pinnacle of combat ability at the Municipal Bureau.

’Although I’m the top dog now.’

’But compared to the Qin Leyan of back then...’

’I can’t compare.’
