Chapter 70: Chapter 68: The Difference in Thinking Between Men and Women

As it turns out, once a woman makes up her mind, it’s nearly impossible to change it.

They tend to analyze situations based on the best-case scenario, subconsciously inflating the odds of the most optimistic outcome.

Then, they are blinded by the potential gains and proceed to make a decision with unwavering confidence.

”This investment product was recommended by an expert, how could there be a problem! You’d be a fool not to buy in with a 30% monthly return!”

”I don’t believe it! There’s no way he’s a scumbag! He already promised to marry me!”

”What’s there to be afraid of? My husband’s working overtime; he won’t be back for at least an hour.”

And so on.

In contrast to women’s ”excessive optimism,” men’s expectations for any given matter are often the complete opposite.

They usually first consider the worst-case scenario and how much they stand to lose if it comes to pass.

”What bullshit investment? You think it’s fun getting tased over there?”

”Holy shit, she’s so forward. She’s not a dude, right?”

”You sure your husband won’t come back suddenly? Maybe we should just go to a hotel...”

In short, the differences in these two ways of thinking are glaringly obvious and not hard to spot if you pay attention.

It was the same now. No matter how Lu Wei tried to persuade her, Mirana was convinced there wouldn’t be a problem and insisted on accepting both quests at the same time.

”The locations for these two quests aren’t far apart. Why can’t we just take care of them both while we’re at it?”

”It’s good for you, too. After all, you’ll get more rewards and loot.”

”I already promised that if we run into danger, I’ll cover your escape.”

Looking at Lu Wei, Mirana asked with a puzzled expression, ”The risk stays the same, but the rewards double. So why on earth don’t you agree?”

”Uh...”

His mouth fell slightly open. Lu Wei was stumped.

After a moment, he shook his head, resigned. ”Fine, we’ll do it your way.”

”You still don’t seem to agree.”

Mirana frowned. ”We’re teammates. If you have any thoughts, you can just say them.”

’Seriously? Haven’t I said enough already??’

’You won’t listen no matter what I say, so why are you putting on this show of democracy??’

Lu Wei raised both hands. ”Nope, I have no thoughts at all. I one-hundred-percent agree with your decision.”

”Alright, then I’ll go register... Why did you just raise your hands?”

”It’s a gesture of agreement from a small country called Gaul.”

”I’ve never heard of that country.”

”Is that so? Their Royal Court’s flag is pure white.”

”You know so much.”

”You flatter me.”

Pursing his lips, Lu Wei followed Mirana to the service counter. He crossed his arms over his chest and fell silent.

Mirana, for her part, handed the two quest forms, along with her Black Iron Medal, to the receptionist behind the counter.

”Please register me for these two quests.”

”Certainly.”

The receptionist happened to be Kaelin again. She took the quest forms, glanced at them, and then looked up in surprise to confirm.

”Are you sure you want to accept both of these quests at the same time?”

”Yes.”

”Then your teammate will need to present his medal as well,” Kaelin said, looking at Lu Wei.

”No, I don’t have a teammate.”

Mirana shook her head, correcting her. ”I’m accepting the quests alone.”

As they had agreed beforehand, since all the points had to go to Mirana, they couldn’t accept the quests as a team.

Otherwise, Lu Wei would get half the points.

Only by having Mirana accept the quests alone could all the points be credited to her name.

”Understood.”

Kaelin didn’t say anything more about this arrangement and lowered her head to process the registration.

Although it was exploiting a loophole, it didn’t affect the Adventurer Association’s profits, so the Association generally didn’t intervene.

It was for this very reason that grey-area industries like ”boosting” had emerged—

helping others complete quests in exchange for a fee, often 1.5 to 2 times the quest’s reward.

Don’t ask why some people are foolish enough to take a loss on quests.

It was the same principle as people in his previous life hiring someone for game power-leveling.

Wearing a High Level medal, you’d draw envious gazes wherever you went... This kind of vanity was enough to make many wealthy young people spend huge amounts of Gold Coins.

’I feel like I could expand into this line of business myself...’

’I could even build an intermediary platform based on this demand.’

’A customer places an order, I match them with a booster, and then I collect a commission...’

Watching the crowd of people picking out quests in front of the board, Lu Wei suddenly thought of another extremely reliable way to make money. He rubbed his chin, growing more excited the more he thought about it.

Until Mirana’s voice sounded in his ear.

”What are you thinking about?”

”Nothing. Are you done registering?”

”Mhm. Next, let’s go buy some medicine and supplies... Don’t worry, since I’m the one asking for your help, I’ll naturally cover the costs.”

”Couldn’t be better.”

Lu Wei nodded gleefully, then suddenly realized something.

’Wait a minute...’

’Kairos lost his leg, so the treatment costs must be steep, not to mention all their daily expenses...’

’Didn’t Mirana use the Divine Blessing on herself? So where did she get so much money?’

Thinking of this, Lu Wei asked in confusion, ”But do you even have any money right now?”

Mirana nodded. ”Mhm, I do.”

”...”

’That’s it? So where did it come from?’

Lu Wei paused for a second, then hesitated for a moment before deciding not to ask again.

He had a feeling Mirana wouldn’t answer the question.

’Maybe she just got lucky and found a purse or something.’

’After all, she managed to stumble upon a Divine Blessing. Her luck was already absurdly good.’

...

...

After leaving the Adventurer Association, they bought some supplies and a bottle of diluted Healing Potion. When the two of them returned to the small wooden cabin, only Bai Ya was in the yard, staring into space.

”Where’s everyone else?”

Lu Wei asked, confused. ”What are they all up to?”

”Zovir and Anna went into the woods to gather firewood.”

Bai Ya answered truthfully. ”Furen went to say goodbye to Clara.”

”Say goodbye?”

”Mhm. He said that’s how it is in novels. Before a dangerous adventure, you have to say goodbye to your friends first.”

”A dangerous adventure?”

Lu Wei looked puzzled. ”What’s so dangerous about it?”

Bai Ya looked back blankly. ”Didn’t you say so? That we were going to help Sister Mirana complete her quests and accumulate points.”

”I said *I*, not *we*.”

Lu Wei froze for a second, then explained, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, ”Mirana and I are enough to do the quests. Your goal in the forest this time is to build the general store.”

”Huh?”

Bai Ya’s jaw dropped. She looked at Lu Wei, then at Mirana beside him, and was suddenly overcome with a bad feeling.

”J-Just the two of you...?”

”Yeah, who else?”

”Can I come along...?”

”Uh, we’re going to be fighting monsters. There’s not much you could do if you came along.”

”But I...”

Bai Ya’s face was filled with anxiety. She wanted to say something but didn’t know how.

Mirana, however, thought she was worried about Lu Wei, so she immediately gave a solemn promise.

”Don’t worry, I’ll take care of him for you.”

”T-Take care of him...”

Bai Ya’s eyes went wide as she completely misunderstood Mirana’s good intentions.

Immediately, a sense of crisis washed over her!

’Oh, it’s on! Is this an Official declaration of war?!’

’Bring it on!’

’I-I’m not afraid of you!!!’
