...

Holding the ring in hand, Su Xiao pondered for a while.

Although this ring does not increase any attributes, it carries a superb ability to ignore pain for 20 seconds.

This may not seem like much, but pain during combat should not be underestimated. Intense pain might lead to sluggish reactions and result in defeat.

However, permanently losing the sense of pain is also not a good thing. This ability to ignore pain for a short time is similar to a potent stimulant.

This ring allows him to unleash his full combat effectiveness at the brink of death, and although it only lasts for a mere 20 seconds, it is incredibly valuable.

When Life Value falls below 10%, one enters a weakened state. Below 5%, most organisms lose their ability to resist.

If Su Xiao’s Life Value drops below 5% during combat, he can use this ring to temporarily ignore the pain and fight the enemy to the death.

He directly put the ring on his finger and felt a strange energy swirling around the ring, ready to be activated at any time.

Activating the equipment’s hidden feature, the ring vanished, and Su Xiao nodded in satisfaction, turning his gaze to the kakuhou in his hand, the Gecko’s kakuhou.

The kakuhou is spherical, about the size of an egg, with some bright red patterns on the surface, and is overall dark red.

This thing is hard in texture, feeling heavy, and is not at all like an organ, more like some hard object.

Su Xiao certainly wouldn’t implant a Gecko’s heko into himself, not to mention the dreadful fatality rate, ghouls themselves are not high-level organisms, not worth the risk.

Su Xiao already has a class, and he will not choose another bloodline. If the two conflict, the likelihood of death is extremely high.

As for the two merging and mutating into a higher-level bloodline? That’s completely wishful thinking.

Surviving alone is already something to be thankful for, and even if he miraculously merges them, two completely unrelated abilities would only spawn trash abilities.

It’s like the union of a tiger and a dog, it would never produce an elephant.

He stored the kakuhou in the storage space. Even if this thing has no use, it can be sold. A white material with a rating of 9 holds high value in Reincarnation Paradise, especially materials that can forge weapons. Many people in the trading market are willing to buy it.

Opening this Green treasure chest, the items obtained were satisfying and, overall, the luck was good.

He summarized a few things after opening several treasure chests: usually, creatures that drop treasure chests are relatively strong, while weaker creatures generally do not drop treasure chests.

But even if you get a treasure chest, obtaining a generous reward is uncertain.

After opening the chest, Su Xiao lay down on the bed and went to sleep.

The next morning, the CCG should be able to respond, and if anything goes wrong, Su Xiao still needs to quickly join the ghoul forces. Otherwise, the price of failing the task is something he cannot afford.

...

Around seven o’clock the next morning, Su Xiao’s door was knocked on.

”Bai Ye, there’s news from headquarters.” It was Shimohira Washitsu’s voice.

Su Xiao had already washed up, opened the door directly, and saw Shimohira Washitsu in a white robe.

”Did the CCG headquarters agree to let me join?”

”Of course.”

With a definitive answer, Su Xiao felt more at ease.

”Here are your employment documents and credentials. I didn’t expect your father to be an investigator; that greatly helped you join the CCG.”

Su Xiao took the employment documents, and Reincarnation Paradise immediately prompted him.

[Hunter has completed the Main Quest (1): Faction Selection. This task has no reward, follow-up task unlocked.]

[Main Quest (2): First-Class Investigator.]

Difficulty Level: LV.3.

Task Description: Quickly rise in ranks in the CCG to prepare for future tasks.

Task Information: Use any method to improve status, eradicate ghouls, bribe, etc.

Task Deadline: Twenty days.

Task Reward: 1 attribute point, 1500 Paradise coins.

...

[Hunter has successfully joined the CCG, and Faction Contribution Points are now open.]

[Current Position: Third-class Investigator, CCG Contribution Value 0/50. Expelling ghouls will earn Contribution Value, and once full, the position can be advanced.]

[Contribution Value can also be used to purchase items within the CCG or produce Kuingke, etc.]

The follow-up task finally appeared, and according to Reincarnation Paradise’s previous hints, he needs to complete three main quests in total to return to Reincarnation Paradise.

However, after he successfully joined the CCG, Reincarnation Paradise delivered a ’bad news’.

[Announcement: A ’Contractor’ has already joined the faction. ’Contractor’ is sufficient to interfere with faction balance, balance mechanism initiated.]

This was an announcement, not just a prompt for Su Xiao, but one for all Contractors in the derivative world of ghouls.

Apart from Su Xiao, all Contractors’ main quest (1) changed from choosing to join a faction to only being able to join the ghoul faction.

This is a balance mechanism of Reincarnation Paradise to prevent one faction from becoming too weak.

Su Xiao’s expression was a bit grim as he too received the prompt. The current situation is that he is the only one on the CCG side, while all other Contractors have been assigned to the ghoul side.

Su Xiao had been wondering about one thing from earlier, which is that his identity as a Hunter seems to only receive benefits in Reincarnation Paradise, while in the derivative world, Reincarnation Paradise treats him equally.

Su Xiao didn’t complain about this; it actually makes sense. The feeling that Reincarnation Paradise gives him has always been cruel, cold, and fair.

However, thinking it over, being the only one in the CCG faction isn’t without its advantages—at least there won’t be other Contractors disrupting the situation.

”Bai Ye, the top brass assigned you to District 14. The situation there is a bit complicated and they very much need your strength.”

Shimohira Washitsu showed a regrettable expression because Su Xiao was not assigned to District 20.

”Understood, I have a feeling that it won’t be long before I’m back in District 20.”

Under Shimohira Washitsu’s puzzled gaze, Su Xiao left the CCG Branch in District 20 with the employment documents in hand.

District 14 is right next to District 20. Sometimes if District 14 is under too much pressure, the CCG branch in District 20 also goes to support them, so it’s clear that District 14 isn’t peaceful.

Just before leaving District 20, Su Xiao suddenly remembered whether to go to the Anteiku coffee shop, because, after all, it gathered a large number of ghouls,
