456 Chapter 456 - 456: Preparing for War 2026-10-26

After his conversation with Xiao Yu, Feng Qi successfully recruited the first coach for the Virtual Coaching Corps.

Upon hanging up, he immediately sent someone to bring Xiao Yu to the Tiger Soul Research Institute.

There, he granted Xiao Yu his Virtual Coach certification and the necessary permissions.

From that point on, Xiao Yu would have a special identity marker within the virtual game and would provide technical consultations to other players in the soon-to-be-launched Virtual Consultation Room.

Feng Qi even granted him the authority to establish a Player Guild in Dawn, hoping he could cultivate a new generation of promising recruits for the future.

Regarding compensation, Feng Qi had initially planned to give Xiao Yu the authority to earn additional income. For example, he could charge players for consultations based on a set price list.

However, Xiao Yu proactively declined this offer.

He explained that as a retired frontline warrior, his existing subsidies were more than sufficient to cover the rest of his life. He had no need for additional income to improve his quality of life.

No amount of money would make a difference to him.

His only wish was for Dawn to gain wider promotion, allowing him to contribute to training more outstanding warriors for the frontlines to the best of his ability.

Xiao Yu’s realization revealed to Feng Qi the unwavering faith within the heart of a retired veteran.

Feng Qi agreed to Xiao Yu’s decision not to accept additional compensation.

In Feng Qi’s view, charging fees might have felt like a desecration of the veteran’s faith.

Thus, the first member of the Coach Corps took his position.

Over the next ten days of testing and feedback, Feng Qi witnessed Xiao Yu’s potential and understood the significance of the Scarlet Research Institute’s plan for the Virtual Coaching Corps.

In just ten days, data from Dawn’s backend showed that Xiao Yu had provided technical guidance to 329 players and conducted numerous practical drills, earning a perfect 100% approval rating.

Furthermore, his unique Coach Corps badge sparked heated discussions on the Dawn Forum.

With the vast majority of Dawn players having never experienced frontline combat, Xiao Yu became a living encyclopedia, teaching them invaluable practical skills.

For example, he taught players how to navigate Domain Fields where navigation systems were disabled, or how to determine the next strategic move in Team Battles.

When players encountered combat technique issues, Xiao Yu would open training rooms, pull them into simulated battle scenarios, and personally guide them through hands-on practice.

This retired veteran, who should have faded into obscurity, had finally found a new path for himself.

In just over ten days, Xiao Yu’s appearance at the Tiger Soul Research Institute had undergone a complete transformation.

When he first arrived, he reeked of sour sweat, his hair was matted and tangled as if he hadn’t bathed in ages, and his face was covered in a scraggly beard, making him look like a homeless man.

But now, Xiao Yu had cut his long hair, shaved off his beard, and presented Feng Qi with a completely refreshed image.

The listless spirit that had plagued him had also vanished during these ten days of self-improvement.

Now, Xiao Yu’s eyes gleamed with sharpness, rekindling the fierce spirit of a frontline warrior.

This transformation filled Feng Qi with deep emotion and further solidified his resolve to establish the Virtual Coaching Corps.

Many retired frontline veterans, like Xiao Yu, were unwilling to spend the rest of their lives in mediocrity.

However, injuries, disabilities, and other factors prevented them from charting their own futures.

Even if they applied to return to the front lines, their requests would be flatly rejected.

The creation of the Virtual Coaching Corps would provide these retired frontline veterans with a platform to shine and contribute once again.

As Feng Qi had written in his recruitment plan:

Even if you no longer tread the path to the front lines, your youthful faces will carry your beliefs and embark on the journey you once walked!

Over the following months, the number of applicants for the Coach Corps steadily increased.

Many veterans who had learned about Dawn Game’s retirement program flocked to the game, eager to undertake the trial missions and become Virtual Coaches.

During this period, a group of clueless players also emerged.

These players were mostly newcomers who had never seen the front lines but boasted remarkably high rankings in competitive matches.

Seeing the veteran coaches in the game with their distinctive Coach badges, they coveted the status, thinking it looked cool, and eagerly applied to begin the trial missions.

Surprisingly, a handful of these players actually passed the initial trials and advanced to the review stage.

For these potentially talented players, Feng Qi didn’t hesitate to give them a ”fail” rating during the review process.

While these gifted players might possess exceptional individual skills, they lacked genuine frontline experience and any teaching expertise. Their desire to join the Coach Corps was purely for amusement.

Recruiting them would be irresponsible toward the other newcomers.

After all, real combat is fundamentally different from a game.

Even if Dawn could achieve perfect realism, indistinguishable from reality, there would still be a crucial difference on another level.

This difference stems from multiple factors.

For example, mindset.

In Dawn Game, players fear no death, making them exceptionally brave in combat, completely unaware of fear.

But in actual frontline combat, mindset is a critical factor influencing combat effectiveness.

Fear, tension, and other emotions can drastically alter the course of battle.

Especially when facing domain creatures with mental bewitchment abilities, human warriors’ inner fears become their enemies’ weapons.

Beyond mindset, many unique situations arise in real combat that Dawn Game cannot simulate.

Thus, the game can only serve as a training ground; no matter how refined, it cannot replicate the true experience of battle.

Nevertheless, Dawn Game will undoubtedly significantly improve rookies’ combat deficiencies, providing comprehensive enhancements to their skills, consciousness, and other essential factors.

Feng Qi eagerly anticipated the surprises this game would bring him and the transformative impact it would have on the future.

Recently, however, he had encountered a troubling issue.

The virtual game’s continuous exposure in Star City had caused its popularity to skyrocket.

This was an inevitable stage in the development of virtual games, and Feng Qi had long prepared himself for it.

The problem was that other cities outside Star City had also begun to pay attention to Dawn, the super virtual game.

Just as he had anticipated.

The reporting, initially objective, had clearly started to shift toward demonizing the game.

The Domain Forces lurking in various cities had clearly recognized the development potential of Dawn.

Naturally, they didn’t want the game introduced into the areas they controlled, fearing uncontrollable consequences.

For example, in Old Day City, controlled by the Spirit Energy Clan, public opinion had turned against Dawn, with scathing reviews and criticisms.

Feng Qi understood their reasoning.

If Dawn were introduced to Old Day City and rapidly gained popularity, the city would soon have a massive player base.

However, the core administrative authority of Dawn didn’t lie with the Spirit Energy Clan, effectively adding an extremely uncontrollable factor to the city’s dynamics.

With a single in-game announcement revealing that Old Day City was under the Domain Force’s control, he could incite widespread unrest within the city.

The importance of controlling public opinion was evident even in the pre-cataclysm world order.

The current situation was that the Hidden Realm Factions, to prevent matters from slipping beyond their control, had no choice but to resist Dawn.

But resistance required a legitimate pretext.

Whether the reason was entirely legitimate was irrelevant; the Domain Forces merely needed a pretext to resist the Dawn Game.
