Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

”Get in the front passenger seat!”

When preparing to return, Zhang Su saw Zheng Ziwen reach for the driver’s door, ready to drive. His proactive attitude was commendable, but his hands were still shaking from the earlier tension and excitement, which made it seem a bit abstract.

There was clearly something happening on the lab side, and he definitely didn’t want anything unexpected to happen on the way back.

Driving himself, with a few presses on the gas pedal, he quickly returned to Celestial Horse Island.

Guarding the gate, Wang Longzhong and Wang Xingui, uncle and nephew, received the message through the walkie-talkie, knowing King Yama was returning to the camp, and opened the iron gate in advance.

The people at Niu YaZI curiously watched the Cool Cruiser FJ. Not long ago, it leisurely drove down the mountain, but now, with the roar of the engine resounding from the foot of the mountain, it rushed into the camp with great momentum.

As it passed the parking lot, the car showed no signs of stopping, heading straight toward the mountain inn area.

In the front passenger seat, Zheng Ziwen looked tense, his hands gripping the handle above the window tightly. Although the journey was just a few kilometers, it felt like a thrilling roller coaster ride, especially when going up the hill; he thought the car was going to topple into a ditch.

”Brother Zhang is in such a hurry... what happened?”

Jia Shiqin, watching over the box truck, was full of confusion.

Not only the people near the parking lot, but even Zhang Ya and Mo Qianlan, busy picking vegetables, were startled and came out of the greenhouse, as such sounds were rare on Celestial Horse Island.

Screech.

A sharp brake, and the Cool Cruiser FJ parked in Cui Leng Pavilion’s designated parking lot.

Zhang Su jumped out of the car and walked to the trunk, saying to the pale-faced Zheng Ziwen beside him, ”In a while, you take the car down and hand it over to the uncle watching the box truck. His last name is Jia; you don’t need to worry about the rest. Go back and help your uncle tidy up the house. Oh, and don’t forget to tell your uncle that your performance today was unsatisfactory.”

”Why?”

Zheng Ziwen was stunned, looking at Zhang Su angrily. He felt he performed well, even managing to kill a powerful zombie amidst the chaos.

Howl, howl.

”Why?”

Zhang Su opened the lid of the truck bed, and through the burlap bags, three zombies emitted a low moan. He picked up the zombie missing its limbs and said, ”Your only achievement was subduing one zombie; you messed up everything else, and you’re still asking me why?”

”I... I, I’m the one who tied them up!”

Zheng Ziwen’s face turned red as he pointed at the zombies in the truck bed, arguing his case. Such a failing evaluation felt too harsh.

”That’s it?”

Zhang Su picked up a zombie that looked like a giant crab and smiled strangely, ”An old lady from the village could tie them up. You don’t think you deserve an award for this, do you?”

”I...”

Zheng Ziwen watched as Zhang Su, shaking his head, walked into Cui Leng Pavilion, reluctantly muttering, ”I did drive though!”

He remembered driving but forgot about the commotion he caused while parking. That might be okay in the countryside, but in the current Qin City District, it would have immediately attracted a swarm of zombies!

Muttering to himself, Zheng Ziwen got back in the car, reversed to the parking lot, and handed it over to Jia Shiqin, as Zhang Su requested.

Seeing the two armless zombies in the truck bed, Jia Shiqin beamed with happiness, ”Little brother, you guys are really considerate, even going so far as to chop off their arms. This makes it much safer; leave the rest to me.”

”No, it wasn’t me. Brother Su did the chopping. I didn’t help and almost caused trouble.”

Zheng Ziwen, not claiming credit, explained, feeling slightly down, and glanced around, recognizing the direction before heading to his accommodation.

”Hey, handsome guy! The handsome guy in gray cotton pants!”

After only a few steps, Zheng Ziwen heard someone calling, glanced down at his pants, turned to the voice, and pointed at his nose, ”You calling me?”

”Yes, yes. Handsome guy, come over, let’s chat,” Wang Zhetao eagerly shook his head. With his hands tied, he resorted to this method to invite the other party over.

Beside him, Hu Yong’an looked in surprise at Wang Zhetao, unsure what he was up to this time, as this young fellow always seemed to have peculiar and strange ideas.

Wang Guangjun seemed unfazed by his son’s behavior, turning around expressionlessly.

Zheng Ziwen saw the twenty or so refugees in tattered clothing by the wall. Knowing their general situation and not being familiar with them, he didn’t know why they were calling him over but decided to walk toward them, seeing they were about his age and quite enthusiastic.

Wang Zhetao stepped forward with a cheerful smile, ”Handsome guy, my name is Wang Zhetao; Shuang Ji Zhe, Shui Shou Tao. And you?”

”My last name is Zheng, Zheng Ziwen. Is something the matter?”

Zheng Ziwen asked straightforwardly.

”Ah, Brother Ziwen, here’s the thing. Earlier, I saw you went out with King Yama, Brother Ziwen. You must be quite respected. We’re all honest survivors. Brother Ziwen, could you perhaps put in a good word for us to King Yama and get us untied soon?”

Wang Zhetao said with a friendly smile. By age, he was certainly older than Zheng Ziwen, yet he naturally called him Brother Ziwen.

Feeling bashful, Zheng Ziwen scratched his head. Before the apocalypse, he was always in the background everywhere he went, and after the apocalypse, he tagged along with his uncle with no sense of existence. Unexpectedly, just accompanying King Yama today got people trying to cozy up and calling him Brother Ziwen, which felt quite nice.

”Actually... I, haha, I’m sorry, but I might disappoint you. I’m not respected; it’s my uncle who asked Brother Su to take me along for work, which I didn’t do well. I even got scolded, so I really can’t help you guys.”

Zheng Ziwen straightforwardly spoke the truth.

But Wang Zhetao didn’t show any disdain for his words, looking at him with envy, ”Being able to go out with King Yama is truly not easy. Look, how many ordinary folks get that opportunity? Brother Ziwen, you’re the impressive one. This trip must have been tiring, so I won’t disturb you much; let you rest.”

Zheng Ziwen thought the other side might persist, contemplating how to refuse, but didn’t expect them to be so tactful, making him feel slightly embarrassed.

”Well, alright, I’ll get going then.”

With that, Zheng Ziwen waved his hand and continued towards Wangshan Inn.

Wang Zhetao, somewhat thoughtful, returned to crouch by the wall, a hint of displeasure in his eyes as he glanced at his father. Other uncles would lower their pride to ask King Yama to take care of the young, while his father was just so wooden.

Since his father didn’t know how to seek favor, he decided to rely on himself!

”Brother Zhang, this... this is amazing.”

Duan Wuhu, upon hearing the car engine roaring, knew Zhang Su had returned, and had been waiting in the second-floor corridor. Seeing Zhang Su come up, he greeted him, his eyes immediately drawn to the ”giant crab” zombie in Zhang Su’s hand.

Poof.

Zhang Su tossed the zombie into the corner, dusting off his gloves before pulling them off and heading to the room where Liu Tianji and others were recuperating, all the while asking, ”What exactly happened?”

”The world is truly wonderful; you’ll see for yourself.”

Duan Wuhu, unwilling to reveal the surprise early, quickly led Zhang Su to the door and opened it for him.

Inside, Zhang Su saw Liu Tianji and Ke Zhiyu sitting on the bed, their expressions filled with joy, Xie Yanshan frowning by the desk, and Fu Weijun still in a wheelchair, facing Liu Tianji and the others with an inexplicable gaze.

”Brother Su!”

Upon seeing Zhang Su, Liu Tianji’s face lit up with excitement. Then he waved his hands animatedly and said, ”Look, what’s this?”

What’s this?

This is friggin’ hands...
