Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

The events happening in Satellite Village are naturally unknown to the people on Celestial Horse Island. What they can do is ensure tight security, as stated in military strategy: attack requires first defending, and defense must first be solid.

Zhong Xiaoshan leads the team to meticulously check any possible oversights. Meanwhile, in Cui Leng Pavilion, two people have awoken from their comas: Liu Tianji and Ke Zhiyu, who were brought back as injured by Ju Mumio.

”Xiaoliu, how, how are you feeling?”

Duan Wuhu looks at Liu Tianji, who is tightly bound on the bed, with a peculiar expression on his face. Standing four or five meters away, he opens his mouth to ask.

Fu Weijun sits in a wheelchair nearby; he wants to move closer, but the wheelchair is held by Duan Wuhu and cannot move, while Xie Yanshan stands by the wall with a clear look of contemplation on his face.

”I... I...”

Liu Tianji speaks with a hoarse voice, noticeably different from before. He senses something is wrong, or else Fu Weijun and the others wouldn’t stay two zhang away.

”My eyes, I see things differently, in black and white, everything’s turned black and white.”

Liu Tianji doesn’t know that his pupils have changed; it looks like a fogged mosaic has been placed over them.

”Dr. Fu, have I... have I gotten better? I feel very strong; have I avoided transformation into a zombie?”

Liu Tianji asks nervously.

Duan Wuhu does not answer Liu Tianji’s question, instead looking at Ke Zhiyu and asking, ”Xiaoke, how about you?”

”My... my feeling is much like Brother Liu’s, but my head hurts, it hurts...”

Ke Zhiyu’s facial expression is indeed not as relaxed as Liu Tianji’s.

”Besides Qiu Hui, Yu Jiaohua, and Guo Fenfang, as well as the other four brought back last night, had the same concentration and dosage of block injection, yet only the two of them woke up; individual differences are very apparent.”

Fu Weijun holds a notebook recording data related to the treatment.

Xie Yanshan nods thoughtfully and sighs, ”It’s a pity we can’t further research the relationships between individual differences. I saw Yu Jiaohua before; her vital signs were already very weak. I guess...”

Yu Jiaohua did not choose to amputate the bitten area initially. After the block injection, unlike Qiu Hui before, she did not wake up halfway. The current situation is bleak.

The best responders are Liu Tianji and Ke Zhiyu; not only have they awakened, but they also have not transformed into zombies, though their appearances have changed somewhat. Other changes are yet unknown.

”Xiaoliu, Xiaoke, let me ask you directly: Do you feel a loss of consciousness? Can you control your bodies autonomously?”

Duan Wuhu sees that the two scientists are not concerned about the patients and has to take the initiative to ask if they can be untied for a clear answer.

Liu Tianji and Ke Zhiyu exchange a glance and then look at Duan Wuhu, both nodding.

”Brother Duan, have we successfully resisted the zombie transformation?”

Liu Tianji asks with a bit of excitement.

”It seems so for now!”

Fu Weijun suddenly chimes in, turning to look at Liu Tianji’s gray eyes, saying, ”From the current reactions, your block was very successful, but restrictions can’t be lifted yet. We need to observe for another day or two, and I hope you can understand.”

”Really?” Liu Tianji shows an ecstatic smile and nods vigorously, ”Understand, completely understand, oh my god, we’re really saved, that’s great, thank you, thank you all.”

”Thank you, thank you both...”

Ke Zhiyu’s head still hurts, but he does not forget to join Liu Tianji in thanking Fu Weijun and the others.

”No need for thanks; we’re just feeling our way through in the dark. Strictly speaking, you are just...”

”Alright, alright, let them rest. Let’s go and check on the other patients. Xiaoliu, Xiaoke, if you need anything, just call. Someone is always on duty. Lie down, lie down and rest.”

Duan Wuhu clearly knows what nonsense Fu Weijun is about to spout and quickly interrupts, pushing him away.

”Rest. We’ll have someone bring you some food later; you’re fine now.”

Xie Yanshan is slightly more empathetic than Fu Weijun. He walks to the bedside to help Liu Tianji and Ke Zhiyu lie down before leaving.

”Actually...”

After Xie Yanshan closes the door, Liu Tianji says softly, ”I can feel that I am stronger than before. How about you, do you feel anything special?”

Lying on the bed trying to suppress his headache, Ke Zhiyu turns his head to show a peculiar expression and says, ”I feel the same, full of energy and vitality.”

”Is it possible that we weren’t controlled by the zombie virus but gained some benefits that only zombies have? Haha.”

Liu Tianji lies on the bed and thinks about this, unable to hold back his laughter.

”Brother Liu, you’re truly optimistic...” Ke Zhiyu is infected by Liu Tianji’s laughter and manages to smile.

In the next room, Fu Weijun nods and says, ”They have unknown changes that need continuous observation. We must wait to report to Mr. Zhang before making any plans.”

...

On Celestial Horse Island, everyone is busy with their duties, just as lively as in the satellite village below the mountain.

Meng Changwei decides to go up the mountain with them without delay, organizing the combat personnel and taking weapons. A total of eighteen people leave some brothers and a few aunties and young wives in the village to continue tidying up. Together, they set off with the Flying Wolf Gang.

On the way out of the village, the thirty-person team is unusually silent, each person calculating things in their own mind, with no one speaking.

”Hey? Boss, there’s movement over there, seems like... there’s a vehicle!”
