Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

”Brother Xie, Brother Duan, why not... arrange for Ms. Qiu to be relocated as soon as possible.”

Fu Weijun saw Zhang Su and Duan Wuhu return, and quickly urged them. He knew what they were discussing had nothing to do with Qiu Hui, and he wasn’t curious at all, just focused on his own matters.

”Yeah, yeah, you’re always the most anxious!”

Duan Wuhu replied sternly and called Xie Yanshan to prepare the equipment needed for the relocation.

After the two of them walked into the courtyard, Fu Weijun turned to Zhang Su and said softly, ”Mr. Zhang, the fire-breathing zombie...”

”I’ll take the fire-breathing zombie away today. You’ve seen the situation in the camp; it’s too crowded and chaotic. We’ll research it after things settle down... Don’t worry, there will certainly be a place where your efforts are needed.”

Zhang Su knew exactly what Fu Weijun wanted to ask and answered his question directly.

As daylight broke, the group returned to Celestial Horse Island, directly driving into Cui Leng Pavilion to send Qiu Hui to the lab, without letting anyone else know.

”Big brother, what were you busy with so early in the morning?”

In Little Lucky’s kitchen, which was already busy with meal prep, Zhao Dezhu saw Zhang Su return deep in thought and ran over with a big ladle to ask.

”There were some situations in Village No.2. I’ve already let the professionals handle it. By the way, when’s breakfast? Today, we need to settle everything with the Survivor Alliance, Little Eagle Association, and Apocalypse Corps. Time is of the essence!”

Zhang Su glanced at the kitchen and asked.

”In the morning, it’s steamed buns and porridge. They’ll be ready soon, so we can start serving breakfast in phases!”

Zhao Dezhu waved the big ladle, donned an apron like a chef, and took up his weapon like a warrior.

At 8 AM, vehicles began to slowly depart from Celestial Horse Island, with Zhang Su personally driving a box truck containing the fire-breathing zombie, while 003 stayed at the camp, and only ten members of the Yama Corps were taken, as the base needed sufficient defensive strength.

The convoy headed south, and as they passed through Beidong Town, everyone couldn’t help but sigh as they saw the scar across the street. Yesterday, if Liao Youzhi had known today would turn out like this, he would never have insisted on expanding north.

There is no regret medicine in the world, and Liao Youzhi and Gong Chengming’s factions faded into the distance like a scene disappearing in a rearview mirror, eventually vanishing from view.

The scenery on either side of the road remained unchanged, with the high-speed train still parked on the railway bridge, unmoving. Through the train windows, one could see the silhouettes of zombies, as if frozen in time. If no one opens the train doors, it might take several years before it reopens.

”Ah, I haven’t been to the city for months; I’m quite excited... Hey, hubby, where are we heading first today?”

In the box truck, Zheng Xinyu swayed side to side in her seatbelt. Her presence always brought a bit of liveliness to any tense atmosphere. She knew today’s mission was to inform those remaining about the North City Four Tigers joining Celestial Horse Island and to recruit them.

”First, let’s go to...”

Zhang Su hesitated, unsure whether to head to the crowded Lego Mall first or the automotive city far to the west. With Zheng Xinyu’s question, he came up with an idea.

”Xinyu, if it were you, do you think working from easy to hard would be smoother, or is it easier to succeed from hard to easy?”

”If it were me...”

Zheng Xinyu thought seriously for a moment and said, ”I’d focus all my energy on the toughest part first. Once we get through that, it’ll be smooth sailing; you know, nice and easy. What do you think?”

”I think you make a good point!”

Zhang Su was very willing to take Zheng Xinyu’s advice. After all, there’s no fixed way to handle such matters; it’s purely based on the situation and personal preference. Since Xin Yunxing had spoken, they’d go with her plan!

Unfortunately, Zhang Su overlooked a fundamental issue. When he asked Xinyu whether to go from hard to easy or from easy to hard, how should hard and easy be defined in the first place?

The vehicle soon drove across Chuhai River Bridge, then onto the North Second Ring Road, turned east, and after traveling some distance, veered south straight to Lego Mall.

In Zhang Su’s mind, the Survivor Alliance was the toughest challenge, not for any specific reason but simply because of the sheer number of people. More people meant more variables, and he was uncertain if his assessment was incorrect.

The main road was clear, with occasional flashes of zombies on either side of the street, barely having time to react to the vehicle’s sound before losing their target.

While the convoy sped along, on West Second Ring Road in Qin City, another convoy set out from the Development Zone, just that Zhang Su’s convoy headed south while this one went north, with both having Tongrui Auto City as their destination!

Yang Xinqi never expected that while he was keeping an eye on Absolute Justice, Absolute Justice was doing the same. Just yesterday, news of him leading his knights had reached Absolute Justice!

The box truck offered no driving pleasure, but Zhang Su didn’t care about that since the heat wafting from the back was more comfortable than any air conditioning. Driving needed only a warm jacket, a sensation he hadn’t felt for a long time, until the city skyscrapers were suddenly in sight.

The derelict buildings along the streets felt like a world apart. It’s hard to believe that over four months ago, this place was bustling, with people living peaceful lives. Now, the entire city’s remaining population was equivalent to that of a single neighborhood back then.

It’s not that things have changed, but both things and people are unrecognizable...

”Wouldn’t it be nice if we could go back to the past? I’d even let those heartless landlords exploit me for a lifetime...”

Zheng Xinyu sighed deeply.

”Right? It seems like you have a masochistic side.”

Zhang Su teased with a smile.

”Get lost...” Zheng Xinyu puffed her cheeks, then forced a smile. ”I really do miss the past.”

”That world will never return, so make the best of the days to come. Hey, the Survivor Alliance seems quite capable to place their checkpoint so far out.”

Brakes squealed as Zhang Su parked the box truck in front of the roadblock at the intersection, with a string of vehicles slowing to a stop behind him. Though not yet fully within the city, just at North Ring Road, the roadblock naturally belonged to the Survivor Alliance’s outermost sentry post.

The entire road was tightly blocked, with the non-motorized and pedestrian lanes cluttered with various debris, and the highway narrowed by abandoned vehicles, with a few barrier poles laid horizontally across.

If someone forced their way through, those homemade crude spikes on the ground would definitely teach them a lesson. The overall defense wasn’t thorough but certainly adequate.

”Old Zhang, what’s up with you guys? The roadblock’s quite complete, but why’s there no one here? Is it fully automated?”

Zhang Su picked up the walkie-talkie and inquired about the situation.

”Damn, they must be scared to death and ran off!”

Zhang Xin replied and hurriedly got out of the car to move the barricade.

Wu Baokang and Cai Zhichao also got out. Not having anyone watching over the checkpoint was quite embarrassing, despite their decision to join Celestial Horse Island. The poor performance of the Survivor Alliance members still somewhat affected Zhang Su’s opinion of them!

When the three of them reached the roadblock, half a head suddenly popped up from behind a car about fifty or sixty meters away.

”Captain Cai... Captain Zhang, Captain Wu?”

A startled voice called out as a skinny figure emerged from behind the car, his face filled with disbelief, a pistol conspicuously tucked at his waist, his cap tilted awkwardly.

”Xiaoshen, what the hell are you doing? Not watching the post properly, sneaking off so far away?”

Zhang Xin angrily reprimanded Xiaoshen.

Wu Baokang moved the barrier to one side with a disdainful sneer, ”Why hide so far away, scared to death, chicken!”

Cai Zhichao shook his head helplessly, far too aware of the habits of those in the camp. They’re experts at sucking up and bullying those beneath them. When facing real danger, they run faster than rabbits. No wonder they weren’t chosen for the formal team; it made perfect sense!

Little did they know, sentry Xiaoshen didn’t run away out of fear; rather, he was stationed far away as part of his wise strategy...

While others talked about keeping a way out for themselves, Xiaoshen didn’t, he was directly on the way out!

With sentrying from afar, if allies arrived, he could rush over to greet them. If there was danger, he’d have ample time to escape!
