Global Lords: My Species Can Mutate

Chapter 554: Chapter 548: Steel Fortress

Zombie horde!?

Lin You and the others were shocked, turning their gaze to the distance. Sure enough, a mass of zombies surged across the land, stretching as far as the eye could see.

Without thinking twice, they exchanged glances and quickly rushed towards the convoy.

Lin You recalled Lingxi and Shadowless, following closely behind, silently observing the convoy and the horde at the rear, biding his time.

”Give us a hand!”

The man leading the group shouted loudly as the vehicles roared past, grabbing Lin You by the arm and pulling him onto the vehicle.

The others acted quickly as well, hopping onto the speeding cars as though they had practiced it many times.

However, the person who reached out to grab Lin You was stunned to see Lin You effortlessly leap onto the car, drawing glances from those inside.

But before they could think too much, the surging horde behind them pulled their attention back.

”Roar!!”

A furious roar echoed as a Tier Eight speed-type mutated elite zombie leaped high, lunging towards the vehicle at the rear.

The terrifying aura made the genetic warriors and superpower users pale in shock.

”Stop it fast!”

The leading man shouted loudly, while a sturdy man beside him suddenly appeared, swiftly enveloped by a layer of silver metal. His feet exploded, and he leaped into the air, heading straight for the mutated zombie.

”Bang!”

The air shook violently.

The mutated zombie was punched away by the burly man, who used inertia to flip and land back on the vehicle.

The entire process was smooth as silk, prompting the others to cheer loudly.

Even Lin You on the vehicle looked surprised.

This burly man was only Tier Seven, presumably having awakened an enhancement-type superpower like Lin You, allowing time-limited bursts far exceeding his own level.

This point differed from their Lord.

Even for him, he could only approximate the level through powerful perception and gauging the strength of the aura from the opponent.

He had observed for a while.

Within the convoy were five of Tier Eight and dozens of Tier Seven, while others were mainly Tier Six, indicating that Tier Six here was a threshold.

This gave him a rough understanding of the strength situation here.

”Die, you damn monster!”

”Quick! Support the ten o’clock direction, their firepower is insufficient!”

”Watch out! Those mutated zombies are charging!”

...

Calls filled the convoy, guns clashed with zombie roars, and the sound of engines echoed as they raced across the abandoned city, threading through derelict buildings.

Yet the zombies behind seemed endless, constantly surging forward, some even climbing tall buildings and leaping down towards the convoy.

Had it not been for the superpower users within the convoy holding them off, they would have broken the defense long ago, leading to destruction and death.

”Captain, it’s not working! There are too many mutated zombies, continuing like this we’ll surely be surrounded!”

A member who was sweeping rounds turned back and shouted anxiously.

Gunshots and roars reverberated endlessly, fierce firepower suppressing the horde, yet unable to halt their footsteps, instead drawing ever closer, hinting at an encircling formation.

”Even if it’s not working, it must work! Without this load returned, how do we report to the Commander!” The man shouted sternly.

With his gun emptied, he promptly changed the magazine and continued firing.

But his few bullets were but a drop in the ocean against the massive horde before him.

”Ah—”

Soon, a scream rang out as several were accidentally caught by zombie tentacles, flung outside the vehicle.

”Ah Hai!”

Lin You called out anxiously.

Of those caught, one was unmistakably his teammate, the chatty one who had relayed useful information to Lin You along the way.

And at the tentacle’s end.

A giant zombie resembling an octopus gradually took shape, its giant mouth wide open, tentacles flailing wildly.

”Tier Nine mutated elite!”

Everyone on the vehicle changed expressions, eyes full of terror.

To think a frightful zombie like that was hidden amongst the horde.

”Damn! How could such a level of monster appear!”

The convoy captain’s face was grim, his gun-wielding arm trembling slightly.

Tier Nine mutated elite.

They are not capable of dealing with it; even sacrificing the convoy could achieve nothing!

For a moment, expressions of despair filled everyone’s faces.

Were they truly doomed this time?

”Whoosh!”

Just then, a sharp sound cut through the air.

A wooden thorn encased in cold air shot straight out, streaking towards the horde.

The crowd barely had time to react before the wooden thorn pierced through countless zombies, exploding into the Tier Nine mutated elite’s body.

”Roar——”

A deafening scream followed, and the once terrifying Tier Nine mutated elite instantly turned into a giant ice sculpture, shattering into countless ice fragments and scattering over the ground.

Silence.

The convoy fell silent.

Everyone’s eyes widened, staring at the scattered ice shards, rooted in place.

Everything happened way too fast.

So much so that they didn’t even have time to react to what had happened before the Tier Nine Mutated Elite was instantly killed, and they couldn’t even see where the attack came from.

However, after surviving in this apocalypse for so long, they quickly came back to their senses.

”Quick! Rescue them!”

”Pull them up quickly!”

Amidst urgent calls, a Tier Eight Spiritual Ability User burst out with power, transforming into an invisible force that supported the people falling from the sky, swiftly bringing them into the convoy.

That strange scene left Lin You, in the corner, utterly astonished.

Spiritual type abilities can be used like this?

He had always thought that spiritual abilities could only be used for attacking and disturbing the enemy’s mind.

Unexpectedly, they could even be used to manipulate objects, as if a new door had been opened for him.

This journey to the Life Realm was indeed worth it.

As for that attack just now, it naturally came from him.

He hadn’t intended to make a move before understanding the peak combat power of the Yan City Base.

But since Ah Hai and his team helped him quite a bit, he couldn’t just sit back and ignore it, so he casually helped them eliminate a huge threat.

If the convoy were destroyed, he would have needed to find Yan City Base himself, which would have only wasted more time.

”Ah Hai, are you all right?”

Once Ah Hai was saved, Lu Jun and the others hurriedly gathered around him.

”I’m fine, thankfully that attack killed the zombie monster, or I really would’ve been dead meat,” Ah Hai said with lingering fear.

Then he looked towards the convoy, ”By the way, Captain, do you know who just saved me?”

Upon hearing this, Lu Jun and the others snapped out of it and looked towards the convoy.

Instantly killing a Tier Nine Mutated Elite so nonchalantly was way beyond their imagination.

Even the Tier Nine powerhouses at their base probably couldn’t achieve this level.

What a pity.

The speed of that strike was just too fast, even the Tier Eight powerhouses in the convoy couldn’t see it clearly.

Plus, the attack was so discreet, it was evident that the person didn’t want to be discovered.

Such a powerhouse couldn’t be investigated even if they wanted to.

”Could it be the commander?” Du Yanyun couldn’t help but speculate.

”Impossible.” Lu Jun shook his head, ”The commander has to protect the base’s safety and wouldn’t leave the base so easily.”

”Then who could it be? Only the commander in our base could achieve something like this, right?”

”Could it be that there’s a big shot in the convoy we don’t know about?”

They discussed in low voices, curiously scanning their surroundings, thinking a big shot was hidden in the convoy.

Little did they know.

The convoy members were just as shocked, continually glancing around, trying to identify who made the move.

But soon, the convoy captain’s shout interrupted them.

”What are you waiting for? Keep attacking, the zombie horde is charging again!”

Everyone’s spirits lifted, immediately reacting, once again raising their guns and using their superpowers to suppress the approaching zombie horde.

In an instant, the entire scene descended into chaos once more.

Fortunately, due to the death of the Tier Nine Mutated Elite, the zombie horde was leaderless and slowed down considerably, finally allowing them to break through the encirclement and gradually increase the distance.

At this moment.

The convoy captain watched Lu Jun and Lin You with a solemn gaze.

As the convoy captain, he knew everyone’s background in the convoy like the back of his hand, and this time, he brought along trusted comrades.

This means.

The one who made the move could very well be among those who joined halfway.

He didn’t know Lu Jun and his team.

But since they were from the same base, they looked somewhat familiar.

Only the young man sitting alone in the corner was unreadable to him.

Yes!

Unreadable.

He clearly looked like an ordinary young man, but he exuded an elusive air of authority that made his heart race.

He had only felt this way around the commander.

No!

It was even more intense than the commander!

Could it be him?

The man’s startled gaze was well concealed as he only sized up Lin You with his peripheral vision.

”Captain! The base! We can see the base!”

Suddenly, an excited shout broke his thoughts.

He looked up, and sure enough, saw a massive rock wall, surrounded by a thick steel fortress.

At the foot of the rock wall, a steel gate ran through it, surrounded by a swarm of Low-tier zombies.

”Speed up! Crush those zombies with the armor!”

The man couldn’t worry about much else, stepping onto the car roof, he shouted towards the convoy.

The team below received the order, immediately flooring the gas pedal, charging towards the steel gate amidst the roar of engines, sending the Low-tier zombies flying.

It wasn’t until this moment.

Lin You on the car finally got a good look at the Yan City Base’s overall layout.

Lo and behold, it was a Steel Fortress built atop a massive rock!
