Global Lords: My Species Can Mutate

Chapter 223: Chapter 222: Hope of Returning

“By the way, why didn’t you just leave me behind and run yourself earlier?”

Under the big tree, Lin You asked while using the Healing Technique on his injuries.

Even though he had been unconscious before, he could still vaguely perceive the surroundings.

Given his critical condition at the time, Ji Yunshuang could have completely abandoned him and escaped alone.

That way, her survival chances would have been much higher.

“You think I didn’t want to?” Ji Yunshuang glanced at him, ate some dry food in her hand, and said indistinctly, “If it weren’t for you saving me from the chaotic space currents, I’d hardly care about you. Now we’re even.”

After escaping danger, Ji Yunshuang returned to her usual demeanor.

Perhaps because she was no longer alone, she seemed much more at ease, no longer as tense and cautious as before.

Lin You watched her silently for a while and then smiled slightly, “Alright then, we’re even. So what’s your plan next?”

“What else can I plan? We must find a way to return to the Primordial Continent first. Staying here is too dangerous.”

Ji Yunshuang’s expression gradually became serious.

“True,” Lin You nodded lightly, “But we’re both injured, and it will take some time to fully recover. Let’s wait until we’re healed before heading out together.”

“That’s what I was thinking too.”

Just like that.

After discussing at the spot and using the Healing Technique and Healing Medicine to recover a bit, the two continued on their way, looking for a hiding spot around the forest.

It wasn’t until near evening.

They finally found a cave in a secluded corner, just enough to shelter them.

They gathered branches to cover the cave entrance and then went inside to start a fire, tend to their injuries, and get some food to regain strength.

“How’s it going? Can you hold up?”

Lin You sat next to the fire and asked.

“Don’t worry, I’m not that weak. But you, you’re more injured than I am. Are you sure we’ll set off back on the road tomorrow?”

Ji Yunshuang poked the firewood and looked up at Lin You.

“Hmm, we have no idea what’s happening on the battlefield now.”

“It should still be going on, right?” Ji Yunshuang gazed at the flames, her eyes constantly drawing back. “We don’t know how far we are from the battlefield. By the time we get back, the war might already be over.”

“Maybe.”

Lin You nodded silently, choosing not to dwell on the matter further.

After all, currently, they were in the Primordial Evil Realm, and what they should contemplate was how to safely escape from here.

After all, the place was rife with enemies, and danger could appear at any moment.

The only thing he could be thankful for was having a Divine Fragment, which provided him with some protection.

As long as they didn’t encounter Tier Seven or higher Lords or Cultivators, they should be fine.

As for Ji Yunshuang, in solo battles, at least she was a Tier Seven, which could be quite helpful.

They might make it back to the Primordial Continent safely if they were careful.

“Alright, the food is ready. Let’s eat first; we need to get going tomorrow,”

At this moment, Ji Yunshuang’s voice sounded, interrupting Lin You’s thoughts.

As he lifted his head, a wooden bowl filled with meat soup appeared before him, accompanied by the enticing aroma of meat mixed with several spices.

“I didn’t realize you had such a skill.”

Lin You took the broth with a surprising look.

He had always assumed Ji Yunshuang, as a princess, would be delicate and unable to manage these tasks, yet the reality exceeded his expectations.

“It’s nothing, learned it while wandering with my parents before.”

Ji Yunshuang replied casually, returning to her seat.

After hearing her words, Lin You was more surprised, “Wandering? Even the King had to wander?”

“Yes, it was before my father reached Tier Ten. I was very young then, and a Beast Tide hit. My father’s territory couldn’t withstand the attack, and we had to move, only finding stability after establishing the Great Wilderness Duchy.”

“I see…” Lin You realized.

No wonder he always felt Ji Yunshuang lacked the typical delicacy of a princess; it was due to her experience.

Then, as another thought occurred to him, he suddenly asked, “What about your mother? Why have I never heard you mention her?”

“My mother… passed away during that Beast Tide.”

Ji Yunshuang paused briefly, her eyes growing forlorn.

Though she tried to conceal it, Lin You could still feel the tension in her body, along with a slight tremble, even her arm holding the wooden bowl was shaking.

Seems like I’ve asked a question I shouldn’t have.

“I’m sorry…”

He said with sincere remorse.

Suddenly, the cave fell into silence.

Only the crackling sound of the fire was heard.

After a while, Ji Yunshuang lightly shook her head, “It’s okay, it happened years ago. You asked me why I didn’t leave you and escape alone before? That’s what my mother taught me…”

“At that time, I was surrounded by beasts, and my mother rushed in to save me, holding on until my father returned before collapsing. So back then, I swore to become strong and never let such a thing happen again!”

The determined voice reverberated in the cave.

Lin You listened silently, unable to help but be moved, not expecting Ji Yunshuang to have such an unknown side.

No wonder she, despite being a princess with abundant resources, insisted on going to the battlefield alone, fighting bravely.

She was much stronger than many Lords.

Furthermore, with her buried thoughts expressed, Ji Yunshuang seemed much relieved.

She drank the meat soup in one gulp and hummed, “What? Don’t believe me? I may be a girl, but someday I’ll surpass my father and become the Empress standing at the pinnacle of this continent!”

“Uh…”

Lin You opened his mouth, truly taken aback by her bold and ambitious words.

However, it was precisely because of Ji Yunshuang’s slight change that he was infected by her attitude, and said with a smile, “Since you can become an Empress, I must at least become a Great Emperor in the future, haha.”

“Then let’s work hard together.”

“Yes, let’s work together.”

The two exchanged glances and found it a bit amusing.

Two people in dire straits, not even sure if they could return alive, were speaking such grand ambitions in this inconspicuous little cave, unafraid of being laughed at.

But after this event, the relationship between Lin You and Ji Yunshuang became much closer.

It wasn’t a romantic feeling, but rather a kindred spirit kind of connection.

Probably because they both share the same goal.

Just like that.

After eating and drinking to their fill and discussing plans for the next day, the two went to rest in separate corners of the cave.

…

There was nothing more to say about the night.

The following morning, Lin You and Ji Yunshuang woke up early.

They checked their belongings and then their injuries, exchanged a glance, and directly left the cave.

After a night of rest and treatment, their injuries weren’t completely healed, but they were not serious enough to affect their movement.

Thanks to Lin You’s Power of Rule.

Otherwise, they would have had to hide much longer before setting off.

“Let’s go. Yesterday, I studied the direction of the sun. The Primordial Continent should be over there.”

Ji Yunshuang pointed southeast and said, while she took out a long sword from her personal space and strapped it to her waist for protection.

“I don’t know how far we are from the battlefield here. It’s best if we could catch a low-tier cultivator to ask.”

Lin You observed the surroundings and with a casual wave, a stream of Power of Nature enveloped the two, continuously supplying energy to their bodies.

Then, they set off in the direction Ji Yunshuang had pointed, quickly leaving the forest they were in.

…

At this moment.

On the frontline battlefield.

Ji Xinghe, who had just retreated from the front lines, finally received the news of Ji Yunshuang’s disappearance.

“What did you say!? Yunshuang and Lin You are both missing?”

Ji Xinghe looked at the subordinate in front of him who had returned to report the news, his eyes widening in anger.

“Reporting to Your Majesty, this is what other lords present at the time said, they were accidentally caught in spatial turbulence, their life and death unknown!”

“How could this happen! They were clearly on the outskirts of the battlefield, how could they get caught in spatial turbulence!?”

Ji Xinghe’s presence exploded with power, making the subordinate almost unable to breathe.

“It was… it was a Tier Eleven Lord from the Primordial Evil Realm who made a move. He was fighting with the King of the Star Nebula Kingdom at the time…”

“Savage! A dignified king actually made a move against a low-tier lord!?”

Boom!

Ji Xinghe suddenly slapped a huge stone in front of him into powder, causing the surrounding space to tremble violently.

But as a king, he quickly regained his composure and immediately said, “Go back and check if Yunshuang’s territory is still there, at the fastest speed! Report back to me immediately after you’ve checked!”

“Yes!”

The subordinate was relieved, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and left to carry out the orders.

With a few quick movements, he disappeared from Ji Xinghe’s sight.

Ji Xinghe stood there alone, his eyes filled with worry, ultimately letting out a long sigh.

…

On the other side.

Lin You and Ji Yunshuang, having left the forest, soon arrived on a wide official road.

From time to time, they would encounter some passing cultivators.

“Be careful, it looks like there might be a territory nearby.”

Lin You hid behind a patch of grass and whispered to Ji Yunshuang next to him.

Behind them were several corpses with wide-open eyes.

They were bandits they encountered on the road, who, seeing their tattered clothes, tried to rob them of their money.

But unexpectedly, they ran into a tough opponent like Lin You and were wiped out.

Lin You also managed to gather information about their surroundings from one of the bandits, finally understanding their current predicament.

They were currently in the territory of a country called the Eight Gates Duchy, separated by another empire from the Dongli Empire’s border battlefield.

In other words.

To return to the Primordial Continent, they must traverse two major Empires!

“I didn’t expect we would be teleported so far away; this really complicates things.” Ji Yunshuang frowned slightly, her eyes expressing deep concern.

Traversing two Empires, especially when they are part of the Primordial Evil Realm, is no easy feat.

One wrong move and they might be discovered by the lords of the Primordial Evil Realm and be relentlessly pursued.

If they were to encounter a lord above Tier Eight, it would almost certainly mean certain death!

Lin You was naturally aware of this too, so his mood was equally heavy.

Just then, faint voices of conversation floated over from a distance.

“I heard that a super long-distance teleportation array was built over at the Royal Capital, connecting the frontline battlefield, and many lords have gone to support.”

“Huh? Is that true? Is the Primordial Realm’s attack really that fierce this time?”
