Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

”Grandma.”

Walker Grant stood up and faced the old woman. His tone grew a little more serious as he said, ”Chloe and I were both injured. My eyes were hurt, and Chloe’s throat was hurt. She can’t speak to you right now.”

Upon hearing this, the old woman’s frail, aged figure swayed, and she nearly fell!

Chloe Reed caught her just in time, her eyes instantly turning red. She opened her mouth, wanting to speak, but she didn’t dare let her grandmother hear her raspy, unpleasant voice.

Tears rolled down her cheeks one after another as she gripped her grandmother’s arm tightly.

The old woman looked at her, her lips trembling. She reached out to touch Chloe Reed’s face, then glanced at her throat. When she spoke, her voice was choked with sobs. ”How could this happen? What on earth happened?”

She turned to Walker Grant anxiously and asked, ”Walker, hurry and tell me. What did you two go through?”

Walker Grant moved forward, fumbling slightly as he helped the old woman to a seat. ”Please don’t worry,” he said. ”Chloe and I will both get better.”

”How could I not worry?!” The old woman’s voice trembled with agitation. ”Did you two plan this all along, to keep hiding it from me? I called Chloe before, and she never picked up. Was that when her voice gave out? You came back today but sent me away. If I hadn’t suddenly remembered I forgot something and walked in on you, how much longer were you planning to hide this from me?!”

After her barrage of questions, the old woman’s body was shaking, and waves of dizziness washed over her. It looked as if she would faint at any second.

’Grandma, Grandma...’

Chloe Reed rubbed her grandmother’s chest, trying to calm her down, and tugged anxiously at Walker Grant’s arm.

Walker Grant immediately said to the maid, ”Go get Doctor Linton.”

”Yes.”

Fiona Linton came back out quickly. She froze for a moment when she saw the chaotic state of the living room.

Chloe Reed looked at her anxiously, beckoning her over.

Fiona Linton noticed the old woman on the sofa. Her complexion was clearly poor, and her breathing was erratic.

”Don’t worry, don’t worry, I’m coming.”

Fiona Linton hurried over, took out a silver needle, and inserted it into an acupoint on the old woman’s body.

The moment the needle went in, the old woman’s breathing smoothed out instantly. Her eyes welled with tears, and she pulled Chloe Reed into her arms.

”My poor Chloe, how could you suffer so much?” Her voice was choked with sobs, filled with incomparable sorrow and grief.

’And to think I was just feeling relieved,’ she thought. ’Relieved that those were all just dreams that didn’t mean anything.’

’But the signs were there, starting a week ago.’

’Chloe stopped sending me voice messages or calling. She only sent videos and photos, and only typed when we chatted.’

’How did I not notice it then?’

Walker Grant’s voice was strained. ”Grandma,” he said, ”we didn’t tell you because we didn’t want you to be worried sick about us.”

But the old woman replied, ”If you don’t tell me, do you think I won’t notice? I haven’t been able to see her. How could I possibly be at ease? If I’d known, I never would have let you two go on that trip.”

Chloe Reed nestled in her grandmother’s arms, completely enveloped in her warmth. The emotions she had been suppressing could no longer be contained. She closed her eyes, but tears streamed down uncontrollably.

A suppressed, hoarse sob broke the silence, wrenching the heart of anyone who heard it.
