The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Schools have rules. As a teacher, he’s constantly disappearing. How long has he even been here? And his old habits are already acting up again.

Come to think of it, An Dongyang has spent less time teaching than even Gu Jiaojiao.

The more the principal thought about it, the angrier he became.

He picked up the phone and called his supervisor.

He rattled off everything that had been happening at the school. After all, the supervisor had been the one to recommend An Dongyang. Now that the man was playing the disappearing act, the supervisor should be held responsible.

The person on the other end of the line was silent for a moment before speaking, his voice laced with resignation.

”I’m aware of the situation. I’ve approved the glass you requested for the school. I’ll have someone deliver it to you tomorrow.”

The principal couldn’t hold back. ”The school’s windows broke in the winter, and I asked you to approve the replacements then. You dragged it out until now, after winter’s already over and the weather’s warmed up. That’s just great of you.”

”Besides, what about the desks and chairs I applied for? What’s the story with that?”

The school’s conditions were poor. After the windows broke, it was Leng Yuan who had found some plastic sheeting and secured it with wooden planks. It blocked the wind even better than glass, but it made the rooms rather dark.

Back when they were trying to get An Dongyang hired, the supervisor had brought this up himself, promising he would approve the desks and chairs.

School had been in session for over a month now, and the desks and chairs still hadn’t arrived.

The supervisor sighed and started giving him the official runaround. ”I know the school is struggling and conditions are poor, but things are difficult on my end too. Can’t you just try to overcome this? As for the desks and chairs, the amount you requested was too large. I can only approve fifty yuan for you. Buy a few to get by for now. It’s not like all of your desks and chairs are broken, right?”

With that, he hung up.

The principal was so furious he almost smashed the phone.

’What the hell? Is he for real?’

What did he mean, ’not all of them are broken’? Their desks and chairs were already old to begin with and had been used for many years. Almost all of them had problems—missing pieces, rotting wood, you name it.

After fuming for a while, the principal collapsed into his chair, overcome by a profound sense of powerlessness.

No one values education these days. But if a country has no education, if everyone becomes illiterate, how can you expect it to develop in the future?

Although the principal was still incensed, he went and collected the approved glass and the fifty yuan anyway.

He looked at the fifty yuan and decided to add his own money to have some desks and chairs custom-made.

’No matter how hard it gets, we can’t let the children suffer. No matter how poor we are, we can’t neglect education!’

Just then, Leng Yuan walked in.

”Principal, you were looking for me.”

The principal nodded. ”The city officials are coming for an inspection next week. They specifically want to observe your class. I just wanted to let you know.”

If it were any other teacher, the principal would have told them to prepare. But for Leng Yuan, that wasn’t necessary.

The students he taught almost always got perfect scores. The city department often brought outstanding teachers over to learn from him.

But this sort of thing also came down to the teacher’s own abilities.

He had no idea how Leng Yuan studied, but no matter the subject, the knowledge came to him effortlessly. His erudition was so vast that it was something other teachers simply couldn’t emulate.

The city had tried to poach him more than once, but Leng Yuan was never swayed.

Looking at this teacher who was so young and yet so brilliant, the principal’s heart filled with gratification.

”Oh, right. The glass I applied for was approved. You and the other teachers can install it during the lunch break.”

Leng Yuan nodded. ”No desks and chairs?”

The school’s desks and chairs were in desperate need of replacement. The application had been submitted three months ago, but there had been no word since.

The principal said nothing. Leng Yuan frowned slightly.
