Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

Gu Yuexi moved swiftly through the black mist.

The farther east she went, the thicker the surrounding deathly aura became, carrying a cold, corrupting presence.

Fine black ash even began to drift through the air, crunching underfoot.

Faintly, a low roar could be heard in the distance.

It was intermittent, filled with a chilling malice.

They traveled for more than ten li.

The view ahead cleared up somewhat, and the black mist thinned considerably.

Small mounds of earth appeared on the ground, not unlike the graves in a burial mound.

However, they were arranged in neat, orderly squares and had no headstones.

As Gu Yuexi and Chu Sheng drew closer, the ground began to tremble slightly.

Skeleton Monsters began to crawl out of the small mounds, their bony frames creaking and clattering.

Some Skeleton Monsters held rust-covered swords.

Others gripped rotten wooden clubs.

And some skeletons simply clutched half a brick.

The Skeleton Monsters’ Cultivation levels were uneven.

The strongest were at the Profound Understanding Realm, while the weakest were around the Spirit Awakening Realm.

In terms of Blue Star’s Cultivation system, that would be between the King Realm and the Emperor Realm.

If such creatures from the Netherworld were on Blue Star, it would have been destroyed countless times over.

Aside from the Divine Domain and the Hidden Clans, no one would be able to stop them.

But in the Spirit Realm, such strength wasn’t impressive.

Any random third-tier minor sect could easily wipe out these Skeleton Monsters.

The only advantage these Skeleton Monsters had was their overwhelming numbers.

From each small mound, hundreds of Skeleton Monsters would crawl out in a short time.

And they just kept pouring out.

It seemed there was no limit to their numbers.

”This place is too close to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye. Any large disturbance would be easily noticed, so the Netherworld wouldn’t dare deploy overly powerful units,” Chu Sheng analyzed casually, pausing in mid-air to look down at the Skeleton Monsters below.

”But on the other hand, the fact that the Netherworld dares to station forces this close to the exit of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye…”

”...probably means they have almost finished stabilizing this invasion route into the Spirit Realm.”

Gu Yuexi nodded, her expression growing grave.

”It seems we came at just the right time.”

”Once the Netherworld’s grand army completely opens the passage and storms out of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye, it will be too late.”

”Luoping City is completely unprepared. It would likely be overrun by the Netherworld in a direct assault.”

”At that point, Luoping City would become the Netherworld’s frontline base in the Spirit Realm, leading to endless trouble in the future.”

While Gu Yuexi and Chu Sheng were talking, the graveyard stopped spawning new Skeleton Monsters, seemingly having reached its maximum capacity.

As far as the eye could see, tens of thousands of densely packed Skeleton Monsters completely blocked the path ahead.

The Skeleton Monsters in the front rank were already shambling toward Gu Yuexi and Chu Sheng, raising their weapons to strike.

With a thought, Chu Sheng summoned two Outer Body Avatars.

Two mosquitoes, identical to it, flew forward to meet them.

With a swipe of their forelegs, they easily sliced the dozen or so Skeleton Monsters in the front rank into shattered bone.

With a CLATTER, the skeletons collapsed to the ground, their skulls rolling far into the distance.

The Soul Fire within flickered and slowly faded.

Strangely, however, whenever a Skeleton Monster was slain, a new one would immediately crawl out from the graveyard behind them to take its place.

After fighting for some time, batch after batch of Skeleton Monsters in the front rank fell, yet their total number didn’t decrease in the slightest.

Gu Yuexi observed for a moment before speaking.

”These Skeleton Monsters seem to have a fixed population limit.”

”Every time a Skeleton Monster dies, a spot opens up.”

”Then a new Skeleton Monster crawls out of the graveyard to fill the gap.”

Chu Sheng had noticed this as well.

It stared at the flickering Soul Fire inside the Skeleton Monsters’ skulls and guessed, ”This Soul Fire must be the core of the Skeleton Monsters.”

”If we don’t extinguish the Soul Fire and just smash the Skeleton Monsters to pieces,”

”the Soul Fire will return to the graveyard, reform a new skeleton, and crawl back out.”

Gu Yuexi nodded.

”That must be it.”

As she spoke, a light glowed at her fingertips.

The divine Law of Light swirled at her fingertips, aimed from afar at the Skeleton Monsters.

”Wait.”

Chu Sheng spoke up, stopping Gu Yuexi.

”Let me see if I can use the Soul-Collecting Butterfly to absorb these Soul Fires, so they don’t go to waste.”

As it spoke, Chu Sheng summoned a Soul-Collecting Butterfly from its Chaos Nest.

The little purple butterfly flapped its wings and leisurely flew out.

”Go, Pi... Soul-Collecting Butterfly.”

The Soul-Collecting Butterfly gently flapped its wings and flew above a Skeleton Monster’s skull.

That Skeleton Monster reacted with extreme speed.

It nimbly swung its rusty iron sword at the Soul-Collecting Butterfly.

The Soul-Collecting Butterfly fluttered lightly to the side, dodging the Skeleton Monster’s attack.

It then aimed at the flickering Soul Fire inside the Skeleton Monster’s skull and activated its [Soul Devourer] Skill.

A faint purple light emanated from the Soul-Collecting Butterfly, enveloping the ball of Soul Fire.

But it was completely useless.

The Soul Fire continued to flicker inside the skull, showing no signs of being absorbed.

Apparently, the Skeleton Monster’s Soul Fire was not within the category of a normal Divine Soul, so the Soul-Collecting Butterfly couldn’t absorb it.

Chu Sheng helplessly waved its forelegs and said to Gu Yuexi,

”Alright, I can’t absorb it. You do it.”

”I never thought I’d see something that could leave you helpless. How rare.”

Gu Yuexi’s tone held a hint of schadenfreude as she took the rare opportunity to tease Chu Sheng.

Then, the Law of Light at her fingertips erupted completely.

A dazzling white pillar of light swept out, enveloping all of the hundred-plus Skeleton Monsters in the front rank.

A blinding light flashed, accompanied by the CRACKLING sound of shattering.

The front rank of Skeleton Monsters was obliterated into dust, their very bones purified into powder.

The Soul Fires in their skulls sizzled in the light and were all extinguished.

Just as Gu Yuexi and Chu Sheng thought that destroying the Soul Fires would prevent new Skeleton Monsters from spawning,

from the graveyard behind them,

brand-new Skeleton Monsters once again crawled out, lurching stiffly in their direction.

”What’s going on?”

Gu Yuexi frowned slightly, perplexed.

”Could it be that the Soul Fire isn’t the key to the Skeleton Monsters’ infinite regeneration?”

Chu Sheng was also a bit baffled.

’According to normal logic, the key to the Skeleton Monsters’ infinite regeneration should be the Soul Fire in their skulls! But Gu Yuexi already used the Law of Light to completely annihilate the Soul Fires, leaving not even a trace of Energy behind. Why were new Skeleton Monsters still crawling out in an endless stream? Could it be that the problem wasn’t the Soul Fire?’

Chu Sheng pondered for a moment, then shook its head.

”No, I still think the Soul Fire is the key.”

”But what we destroyed was just the Soul Fire of individual skeletons.”

”There must be some kind of medium in the graveyard that can continuously generate new Soul Fires, or allow the Soul Fires to constantly regenerate.”

Gu Yuexi asked in surprise, ”You mean the core is the graveyard itself, not the skeletons?”

Chu Sheng didn’t answer immediately.

With another thought, it summoned two more Outer Body Avatars.

Together with the previous two, a total of four Outer Body Avatars attacked at once.

The four avatars went all out, and the Skeleton Monsters fell in droves.

In the blink of an eye, the Skeleton Monsters’ front line was pushed back into the graveyard’s boundaries.

Now, any Skeleton Monster that poked its head out of the graveyard was instantly killed by the Outer Body Avatars, completely unable to step outside its bounds.

Chu Sheng took the opportunity to fly forward, positioning itself directly above the graveyard to observe carefully.

After watching for a while, it finally noticed something amiss.

The color of the soil in this graveyard was a bit darker than the surrounding black stone ground.

It was a dark brownish color, suffused with a thick aura of death.

The difference wasn’t very pronounced, however, and with the black mist swirling about, neither it nor Gu Yuexi had noticed it before.
