Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Tao YanZhen loved listening to Jin Erlin speak. This little girl he saw eight or nine years ago was still as endearing.

The four of them chatted while walking, all smiling except Wang Menglin.

”The three of you go home first, I’ll go push the cart. I brought you some food.”

The three entered the house, and the two girls quickly washed up.

”Cousin, let’s invite Jin Erlin for dinner.”

”Okay, I understand.”

For dinner, it was just rice porridge, and without even scallions, only pancakes were made.

Wang Menglin was preparing, and Jin Erlin came over.

He brought quite a lot, with two baskets on the back of his bicycle, both filled to the brim. There was also a burlap sack balanced on the rear seat, looking like it contained potatoes. On the front handle, there was a large bundle of scallions.

”Uncle Jin, you’re really well-prepared.”

”I bought whatever I thought of. If you see anything missing, let me know. I’ll bring it over in a couple of days.”

Actually, biking over from the county is quite a distance, but the three of them were aware of Jin Erlin’s thoughtfulness.

This time he brought half a sack of flour, half a sack of rice, a few pounds of noodles, and a barrel of soybean oil.

”Feel free to eat it. I often go out. Good stuff is always attainable.”

”Hehe, it’s better than living at home.”

”Just no meat. Mainly because I can’t bring it over; it might spoil.”

Wang Menglin had already kneaded the dough, and the four sat in the living room.

”Let me tell you about the situation in the village.”

Jin Erlin smiled as he saw both looking at him, ”I found talents to arrange your placement in Li Family Village, not to take credit, but you’ll understand in the future.

This Li Family Village was too poor before, with few people and plenty of land.

But Li Yungui is a capable person, don’t underestimate a small village head. He’s unusually shrewd.

At that time, he accepted a person who was reassigned, named Wei Kaiyun. Remember this person; you must make good relations with him in the future.

This Wei Kaiyun was previously the director of H Province Textile Factory. He definitely had connections above, but I’m not sure who.

Though he came down under the guise of reassignment, his files were spotless, with no wrongdoing found.

His two children came before his reassignment.

Wei Kaiyun’s wife was the deputy director of T City Textile Factory in H Province, just in her twenties. She graduated from X University.

She’s a special woman. I’ve seen her once; she seemed ordinary.

But an ordinary young woman couldn’t become deputy director of over a thousand.

Currently, Li Family Village has two tractors, all managed by Wei Kaiyun. Because of creating rotary tillers, seeders, and pesticides, he is now rehabilitated.

I don’t know why if they’re cleared, they still stay here.

Now, Li Family Village is very prosperous. You must be curious why only the elderly and women work the fields, right?”

All three nodded; they noticed this but hadn’t asked anyone.

”Because all able-bodied men work in the factories at the village’s south end. Whether you’ve heard of the corn sheller, it’s also developed by Wei Kaiyun.

Now they’re Pesticide Factory and Corn Sheller Factory together.

Outsiders say Li Yungui handed the two factories to the city; I know best because our transport team regularly transports for them.

I think handing over the two small factories was Wei Kaiyun’s idea, though why, we can’t say for sure. But there must be a reason.”

All three were stunned. This was a legendary figure indeed.

”I can’t say specifics, but in Li Family Village, there are two figures absolutely not to offend: Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang, who are together.

Old Yang is involved in the underworld in the city; he’s very connected and powerful.

Both families now live in Li Family Village.

You’ll understand when you meet them later. They’re easy to get along with, no need to actively curry favor. With your personalities, gaining their approval should be quite easy.

You won’t see them in the next month or two; both families went out for fun, rented a truck from me, and went seaside with their families.”

The two girls were envious, knowing somewhat more, but only from books. They hadn’t been seaside play yet.

”If you ever need something, directly seek Li Yungui. He’s a very dedicated village head. His idea is as long as you don’t cause trouble, there’s no problem.

If there’s really an issue, go find Old Yang; we have some connections.”

The trio nodded, indicating they understood. Such a small mountain village yet people so capable.

”Uncle Jin, you chat, I’ll go cook.” Wang Menglin stood up.

”Uncle Jin, I’ll join my cousin.”

Only two men remained. Jin Erlin’s smile faded, ”Xiao Chun, keep an eye on the two girls; Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang are quite young.”

”Is Wei’s character not good?”

Jin Erlin shook his head, ”I think everything Wei Kaiyun does is his wife’s idea; you’ll understand when you meet Jiang Xinyu.

They have a particularly good relationship. There’s word from the city that a reporter from the provincial newspaper likes Wei Kaiyun, but surely failed. I’m worried about the girls fancying Wei Kaiyun, who is quite charming.”

”Understood.”

The two girls in the kitchen were nimble. After forty minutes, the meal was served.

”You two are quite skillful.”

”Glad you like it, Uncle Jin. My cousin enjoys cooking.” Tao YanZhen said with a smile.

After dinner, Wang Menglin handed a thousand yuan to Jin Erlin.

Tao YanZhen added, ”Uncle Jin, this is for the house and bicycle money, please take it.”

No formalities from Jin Erlin, who counted, took only eight hundred, leaving two hundred on the table.

”This is enough.”

”Uncle Jin, we came with some money, don’t subsidize us.”

”It really is enough, don’t worry; I have it sorted.

These scallions can be planted, turning into large onions by autumn. I specially brought them over. If cabbages run short, buy in the village; since last year, Li Yungui started planting them in the ground. Every home in Li Family Village has a cellar; come winter, they’re sold to the co-op. You can stock up after autumn.

Other greens are similar, all available in the village.”

”Understood, Uncle Jin. Keep an eye on the bicycle.”

”No problem, I’ll buy it tomorrow. Then deliver it to you. Anything else missing?”

Wang Menglin handed over a paper. These were the items the three recalled as lacking, so it’s up to Jin Erlin for help.
