The Broken Halo

Chapter 132: 132: Pork For Midnight Snack

As Simon stared at the window beside him with a pondering expression, one of the waitresses brought his food to him.

Clang

“Here you go. Two large portions of a demon bull.”

Simon glanced at the food before glancing at the waitress.

The waitress wore no mask, and Simon was not certain if she was a Whisperer or a slave like him.

Initiates, Shadow Blades, and Grave Lords were not given menial tasks like being a waiter or a cleaner.

’Apparently, recognizing if one is a Whisperer is even more difficult than recognizing if one is a Shadow Blade or a Veilmaster outside the clan.’

Simon’s eyes moved to the bosom of the waitress which was nearly fully exposed to any who wanted to see.

Her gown only covered the lower part of her breasts and half of her nipples along with it.

And as for her ass?

It was the same.

Quarter of it was covered by her gown, and once the waitress bent over slightly, one could see her private part as long as they stood behind her.

Even with vast years of experience, Simon could not deny that some rather unsavoury thoughts crept into his mind as he glanced at the waitress.

He was a man, and the waitress was also not ugly.

The waitress noticed his gaze and smiled sweetly at him. Then she turned, allowing Simon to see her rear view as she walked away.

Sigh

Simon released a soft sigh. ’I nearly failed to control my impulses. As a demon, especially a unique demon beast, I could feel an immense urge to sleep with her. If I was an actual sixteen year old, I would have made an attempt and paid her to sleep with me.’

’And from the how it seemed, she’d have most likely agreed.’

’… I think I can understand why that bastard Demon Lord said that the more powerful a demon becomes, the stronger their urge and the more they’d need to satisfy that urge… If it’s the urge to kill or have sex.’

Simon took one last glance at the waitress then he shook his head slightly and looked at his food.

His food was similar to steak, only that it was not steak but the meat of a Lesser Demon Bull.

It was not expensive. It only cost him three merits for a large portion.

However, because he was a slave, the cost of his food tripled. Thereby making him to spend eighteen (18) merits in total.

On his first day, he had spent a total of seventy eight (78) merits, leaving him with only eighty two (82) merits from the one hundred and sixty (160) merits he had.

If not for the extortion he made on his classmates, his mere twenty merits would not even be enough for all he had done.

As a slave, the merits he gained would be reduced by 80% and the cost of anything he wanted to buy would triple.

The life of a slave was a terrible and an extremely difficult one in the clan, and it was why the Velari in the Registration Hall was surprised by Simon’s calmness despite his status as a slave.

For a slave to survive in the clan, the slave had to either find a master that was ’kind’ enough to let him or her live a non-degreading life and was willing to provide food and shelter for the slave.

It was well known that the time it took a slave to advance from even a minor heart rank to the next minor rank was nearly six times longer than that of an average clan member.

And majority of the slaves and even a few clan members believed that this was injustice, unfair, and a foolish thing to do.

But Simon could guess the thought process of the clan.

Which master would want their slave to gain power?

If a master who had treated their slave badly allowed their slave to gain power which could then lead to the slave gaining as much power as the master or even more power than the master… What would the slave do?

For instance, somebody like Simon who had been tortured brutally by the clan. If he had the power right now, he would not hesitate to destroy the clan.

So instead of trying to appease his feelings by making the playing field with the others fair, the clan wanted to suppress him.

And it was not a light suppression, but an extremely heavy suppression on every slave so that they never get the chance to reach the top and stab their masters in the back.

And to Simon, they were not wrong in taking such an approach.

These were not humans who could suddenly have a change of heart and decide to forgive their masters.

No

These were demons, and demons were known to be vengeful and cruel.

Clang

Simon gently dropped his fork and wiped his mouth with the handkerchief he was given.

He was done with his meal, and after thinking about it, he had decided on what decision to take.

“Quite a delicious meal. It was a good decision to not go for something cheaper but more expensive.” Simon said softly as he stared at his empty plate.

He had finished his food and felt very satisfied and full after not eating for days.

He even felt like he had more energy and that he had been running on fumes ever since.

He could have gone for a cheaper food which would only cost him one merit, but at the end of the day would cost him three merits instead of eighteen merits.

However, such foods were of very low quality and quantity, and they were not good for his growing body at all.

Eating the meat of a Lesser Beast was more nutritious for his body.

Though it was expensive, Simon was not going to have a stunted growth just so that he could save some merits.

“I guess having pork as a midnight snack won’t hurt.” He stood and left the restaurant with a cold and sharp gaze behind his broken smile mask.
