The Broken Halo

Chapter 98: 98: My Revenge

“You have got to be kidding me.”

Simon had wide eyes as he looked at Thorgan who was running and frantically dodging dozens of shadow spikes from the Alpha’s tails.

There were courses of shadow wolves all on the floor, and each had numerous dagger wounds on their bodies.

Simon could see the fury in the eyes of the Alpha, and it wanted nothing more than to fear Thorgan to pieces.

Simon and the remaining candidates were lucky because Thorgan ensured that he never ran or faced their direction.

If not, the lives of Simon and the remaining candidates would be in serious danger.

’He has completely enraged the alpha. Now it’s in a state of berserk.’

Simon’s eyes narrowed as he observed the alpha who was now as strong as a Superior Dread Beast in his berserk state.

’Should I leave him?’

’I came here not to battle a Dread Beast, or worst of all, a berserk Dread Beast. And I should be able to get the answers I need from one of them.’

Just as Simon had this thought, he saw one of the frightened candidates run for their dear lives.

Simon stretched out his right hand, and his Chaos Wraps shot out and curled itself around the running candidate.

The candidate screamed, and with a thought, Simon used the Chaos Wraps to shut his mouth.

He looked at the remaining candidates, then he shot out more of his Chaos Wraps, effectively binding them.

The candidates were shocked and more terrified.

They thought the Chaos Wraps were just normal clothes. Never did they think that they were artifacts.

Many of them had the same thought Thorgan had when he guessed that the Chaos Wraps were not normal black wraps but were artifacts.

They all had the same idea that Simon was cheating, and Simon already expected this. But he didn’t care.

Why?

Because he planned on killing them.

’If it’s only Thorgan that believes the Chaos Wraps are artifacts and not just normal clothes, it’s still manageable. But if these ones start spreading the rumor around, especially to Varreth who has most likely controlled a lot of candidates by now, it could become especially very annoying in the future.’

’I might be interrogated and maybe tortured again.’

’So… they have to die.’

“THIRD BROTHER!”

Thorgan’s scream of help resounded in the surroundings, and Simon turned.

His lips twitched when he saw that the shadows on the ground now had hands with claws shooting out of it, making the entire scene to look horrifying.

“Damn it.”

Simon took one last look at the tied up candidates, then he ran to help Thorgan.

His reason?

Helping Thorgan should provide more benefits in the future.

Although fighting the Alpha who was in a berserk state and was now as strong as a Superior Dread Beast was extremely dangerous, their chances of survival was not extremely low.

If they were careful, they could survive.

Meanwhile, if he decided to abandon Thorgan and he survived at the end of the day, he would have caused the first demon he has encountered with a Royal Bloodline and a strange background to have a bad impression of him.

Although Thorgan told him he didn’t have a biological family, Simon was certain that Thorgan’s background or past might become useful or shocking to him.

’I have not made any connections or ’friends’ with anybody since I arrived in the demon realm. I can’t reach the peak on my own. I obviously need others.’

’I can’t say because I was betrayed, I won’t interact or socialize with people. No. Socializing has its benefits, and that’s what I’ll do now.’

’I’ll weigh the benefits of every situation or decision I make from now on. Is it beneficial for me to get closer or become ’friends’ with Thorgan?’

’Yes. Definitely. He has a Royal bloodline which means he has the potential to become a Demon King in the future, but I don’t know the exact grade of his bloodline.’

’Regardless, getting closer to Thorgan has its benefits, and the potential benefits far outweigh the cost of abandoning him now.’

Bang!

Simon dodged a tentacle that attacked him the moment he entered the domain of the Alpha.

The Alpha was not focusing on him but on Thorgan, and the tentacle was meant to be a warning to him.

However, Simon obviously ignored that warning.

’It was also the reason why I killed that panther girl called Mona. She had seen my true demonic energy, she was too fearful of death and too attached to life, she was a coward, and her talent could not outweigh these negatives.’

’If I consider the pros and cons, then I made the right decision.’

’I should be doing this more and more. Weighing the pros and cons, and choosing benefits above all… Even relationships.’

’But can I?… Can I really do such a thing? Do I have it in me?’

’What is my true goal? I want revenge, but do I abandon every single moral I have to strain that revenge… To become a god?’

’How badly do I want revenge? How badly do I want to reach the peak?’

’I’ve been betrayed by people close to me. Betrayed by the woman who brought me into this world. Tortured in ways that could break even the most seasoned warriors of Earth and the Demon Realm.’

’I have gone through so much, and the only reason why I keep on moving is to not allow everything I’ve gone through to win. What would be the point if I gave up, died, became a mindless monster who hated every single demon and human.’

’No.’

’Such a reaction to everything I’ve gone through is utter foolishness.’

’Hate? Why should I hate?’

’Why should I hate when it’s bears no fruit.’

’What do I want?’

’I know… I know now.’

’What I want is not revenge by killing my old comrades or my mother.’

’No.’

’What I want is to stand at the peak and let those who betrayed me to see how far I’ve gone. To see the utter foolishness of their decisions. To witness their greatness. To see the realization of their stupidity.’

’What I want is to stand at the peak and let them witness it. Then I can kill them. Killing them like that won’t soothe the ache in my heart. It won’t soothe the pain and fury in my soul.’

’So, nothing. Absolutely nothing would stop me from reaching that peak. And if I have to become a demon even to the demons of the demon realm, then so be it.’

’Pros and cons. Benefits over all else.’

’The peak… That is my desire and my revenge.’
