She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Not long after dinner, the rain stopped.

Just as the Commissioner remembered, An Shuo Hai and An Miao were preparing to go to town to buy some items.

An Shuo Hai pushed out the motorcycle, and An Miao hopped on, but the motorcycle wouldn’t start no matter what.

”What’s going on?” An Shuo Hai muttered, asking An Miao to get off to check the vehicle, but found nothing conclusive.

No idea where the problem lay.

”It’s not too far anyway, Dad. Why don’t we just walk?” An Miao suggested.

An Shuo Hai tried again, but the motorcycle was indeed unusable: ”It might really be broken, this bike is quite old, I’ll take a closer look another day. Okay, let’s walk.”

Just as the father and son were about to leave the house, two large stones, each half the height of a person, rolled from the distance onto the path ahead of them, landing right in front of them.

Even if neither of them believed in the supernatural, this was unsettling.

It was too strange.

An Miao gulped: ”Dad, maybe we shouldn’t go today? It’s not that urgent, we can buy things tomorrow.”

The trip to town was mainly to buy some daily necessities and some treats to enjoy in the evening.

”I’ll tell your mom and we’ll go tomorrow. You move these two stones aside, it’s not good blocking the way here.” An Shuo Hai steadied himself, it was too uncanny, making one cautious.

”Why not go?” Liang Xuefang was a bit displeased; she was particularly craving fish today, so she asked An Shuo Hai to go to town, and also to buy some almost-depleted household supplies.

An Shuo Hai said: ”The motorcycle might be broken.”

He hadn’t yet mentioned the stones blocking the path when Liang Xuefang interrupted: ”I’ve told you many times before, we’re not short on money, why not get a small car? On rainy days like this, motorcycles are terrible for carrying passengers, and they make your pants all muddy.”

If not for this, she would’ve gone to town too; she didn’t want her pants getting dirty from the motorcycle.

An Shuo Hai actually had a small truck, second-hand, but it was only used for renovation work, as it’s needed to transport many tools.

But Liang Xuefang was reluctant to ride that grimy, shabby-looking truck; she felt it was embarrassing. Their family wasn’t poor enough to live like that, anyone with money would upgrade their living standard, but An Shuo Hai was stubborn.

If she went, An Shuo Hai would gladly take the small truck; he knew Liang Xuefang was particular about appearances.

As for buying a car, hadn’t they bought a house before? Those two houses were in good locations, one was large, the other moderately sized, even in the county the prices were steep. In his plan, the big one was for his son, and the couple would live in it later. The smaller one was for his daughter, whether or how she wishes to live in it was up to her. They had discussed these things as a family. He was somewhat traditional but dearly loved his daughter and felt assured she would have security.

If they were to live in it themselves, certainly it should be better furnished, costing quite a bit, but he wanted to do it in one go. Having a house in the village meant they weren’t in a hurry, so the interiors weren’t yet refurbished. A small car didn’t get much use in their family. Liang Xuefang didn’t have a driver’s license; if she did, An Shuo Hai would be willing to buy one for her to drive.

Liang Xuefang not wanting to learn made him helpless.

Cars depreciate once bought, leaving them unused is wasteful.

”Why don’t you find time to learn to drive? Then we can get a small car for you to drive around, making trips to town convenient. Aren’t the new cars all quite nice? You can pick a good-looking one that feels stylish,” An Shuo Hai suggested again.

Liang Xuefang rolled her eyes: ”I’m too lazy for that. Can’t you and our son drive? As long as you drive me, isn’t that enough? Can’t you and our son drive me around? Why not buy a BMW and drive me home in style, then I’d be grateful.”

”BMWs are nice, but not suitable for our family. If you really like it, we’ll consider buying one after renovating when funds allow. When you’ve learned how to drive, we can get one for you.” An Shuo Hai felt he couldn’t make big money but believed he could afford an affordable BMW with effort. His words were genuine, not just promising for the sake of it.

If Liang Xuefang learned to drive right away, they couldn’t yet afford a BMW, but a small car wouldn’t be an issue.

”Alright, alright, you have all sorts of excuses. Knowing I don’t want to learn, you keep tricking me with this talk; you know I won’t learn, that’s why you say this. If I did learn, you’d have all sorts of reasons not to, anyway, full of excuses.” Liang Xuefang was irate, momentarily regretting marrying someone so obstinate. If she had ventured out back then, she might have become a wealthy housewife.

Seeing she was about to explode, An Shuo Hai sighed, choosing to change the topic, used to it by now.

”What? So spooky?” Liang Xuefang was startled by An Shuo Hai’s words and went out to check, indeed seeing two stones, each half a person tall, on the road, with An Miao pushing them aside.

”Maybe the rain was heavy, washed down from above.” But happening precisely in front of the father and son was a little too coincidental; Liang Xuefang found it eerie and refrained from urging An Shuo Hai to go to town.

It was too strange, better to play it safe.

Anyone encountering such things would likely be hesitant, avoiding unknown dangers.

If she forced her husband and son to go to town for shopping, what if something really happened? Her husband was the family’s backbone, losing him, how could they manage? Since marriage, she’s been at home, unaware of how to earn money.

These were naturally Ah Chen’s tasks.

Directly stopping the father and son might be difficult, viewed as unreasonable trouble.

She used other ways instead, not incapable of that.

It worked well this time.

With supernatural occurrences, no one is unconcerned.

After moving the stones aside, the family returned inside, and An Shuo Hai began fiddling with the old motorcycle, planning to check it thoroughly to pinpoint the exact issue. He was familiar with motorcycles, believing he could handle any minor problems.

This time, he couldn’t identify the problem, attributing it to aging.

Liang Xuefang muttered: ”This motorcycle’s been six or seven years, can it not be aging? It’s good it’s not falling apart.”

At that moment, Liang Xuefang’s phone rang.

”Xiaoqing, oh, really? Short one? Okay, I’ll be right over.” Putting away her phone, Liang Xuefang told An Shuo Hai, ”Xiaoqing asked me to play cards; I’m heading to her place.”

An Shuo Hai nodded in agreement. He managed the household finances, with this one minor hobby, while maintaining discretion, he was rather reassured.

Ah Chen heard from the room, but didn’t interfere, as long as An Shuo Hai father and son weren’t going out.

Currently on break, the Commissioner was soon going to enter high school and didn’t need to do holiday homework, spending time on his phone.

The afternoon passed peacefully.

Until a call came to An Shuo Hai’s phone, a voice slightly panicked: ”Shuo Hai, something happened.”

Ah Chen heard, moving closer to An Shuo Hai.

”The Yang Family’s boy drowned in the river; now the Yang Family’s old lady is causing trouble at the Jiang Family’s place, claiming Jiang Yue and Jiang Xiangyang killed her grandson, demanding the two kids pay with their lives.”
