She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 349: Chapter 348: Victims Behind the Holographic Reality Show, Part 1

Bei Chen, female, 20 years old, a junior at a prestigious university. With her junior year coming to an end, she was about to start an internship and had planned a trip with some close classmates. Unexpectedly, they encountered an accident and all eight of them transmigrated to this crisis-filled apocalyptic world.

This place is full of zombies and various mutated monsters, extremely terrifying. They found a nearby hotel as a refuge and occasionally observed the outside situation.

This is the identity given to Ah Chen by the holographic system. Indeed, they didn’t transmigrate to the apocalypse; they were just participating in a holographic reality show, with their original memories sealed by the system. Still, among the eight of them, many are indeed college students.

Before entering, the signed contract also mentioned that memory would be sealed, all voluntarily.

However, the commissioner is the only victim of this show because while others received hints, she did not. Thus, in this crisis-ridden world where humanity is lost and everyone becomes cruel and indifferent, she quickly adapted and, indeed, with her decisiveness could live well in this world, assuming it’s truly an apocalypse.

However, this is not the case; even if it might be in the future, it currently isn’t.

Once they entered this world, countless audiences were watching their every move.

Humans can imagine the harshness of an apocalypse, but only by truly experiencing such a world do they understand the difficulty of survival within it. Compared to others, the commissioner appeared cold and ruthless, as if she was born in this world, which was unacceptable to the audience.

Exhibit one: when a teammate was surrounded by zombies and couldn’t be saved, she decided to give up. However, the others didn’t and managed to rescue him, completely unbelievable, leading to natural criticism of her behavior.

Exhibit two: when a teammate was infected by the virus and turned into a zombie, she was about to shoot him in the head without hesitation. Criticized for being too ruthless, too heartless, she failed due to others’ obstruction. On this point, some people understood; if the infected teammate later not only didn’t bite people but also helped humans, she wouldn’t bear so much criticism.

Exhibit three: encountering people in need of help, she analyzed that their strength was insufficient to protect these elderly and disabled. More people might not necessarily be better since food was scarce, thinking success in reaching the base was greater for just them. But this faced much opposition from teammates. Surprisingly, among these elderly and disabled, they gradually awakened superpowers, as if confirming that kindness is rewarded. Originally, the audience thought she rational; with such a comparison, the judgment was clear, and more criticized her.

From this incident, those elderly and disabled naturally disliked her.

Exhibit four: faced with a blockade by high-level zombies, naturally, the faster one runs, the better. According to her analysis, they lacked the power to defeat them, so she ran decisively. But teammates insisted on fighting, unwilling to abandon everyone.

Again, her surprise: during the battle, these superpower users upgraded unexpectedly, and even her teammates gradually awakened superpowers.

...

In the end, she was the only one who hadn’t awakened any superpowers.

She thought this strange but couldn’t articulate why, just finding the world very odd, as if all her perceptions were wrong.

Many disliked her but her teammates hadn’t abandoned her; among them was someone deeply infatuated with her: Wen Chulin, a gentle, shy boy who was always meticulous and kind towards her.

She felt somewhat twisted, hating everyone around her.

Yet, to survive, she chose to compromise, overturning her perceptions and refraining from expressing opinions, as a non-superpower ordinary person couldn’t instruct the superpower users.

Naturally, the audience still disliked her.

When humanity defeated the zombies and peace returned to the world, Wen Chulin, who had liked her all along, proposed to her. She refused, finding it inappropriate, not knowing why, just that it wasn’t right; this wasn’t what she wanted.

Because of this, she was criticized again by the watching audience.

After the reality show ended, memories restored, the commissioner thought about her experiences inside, likely drawing criticism indeed; opening her Weibo homepage, her name hung there, along with many others.

#What Not to Do: Be Bei Chen’s Teammate#

Before joining this show, the commissioner, originating from an orphanage, was admitted to T University through outstanding performance, regarded as the school’s beauty—a goddess for many due to her spectacular achievements, admired as a role model. Always looking glamorous in public.

In a digitally advanced society, she naturally also streamed, having many supporters.

After the reality show, fans expressed disappointment, finding her hypocritical, unable to believe that was her true self.

Even knowing beforehand that the show would seal memories, the commissioner didn’t hesitate, believing she is not perfect but not a bad person, so it should be fine. The reality show offered a substantial reward, and, given her status then, the program offered the highest price. Ambitious to climb up, she naturally participated.

Even watching the replay afterward, she found no problem with her performance.

Feeling the issue lay with other guests instead, peculiar but unexplainable. Initially, she suspected their memories weren’t entirely sealed, but observation ruled this thought out.

With memory intact, their fear wouldn’t be so realistic; mainly, it’s unlikely everyone’s acting skill could be so superb.

The reality show had eight members in total, besides the commissioner, the others included:

Yun Rou, the commissioner’s roommate, with a quiet personality and disliking talking.

Jie Weiwei, a rich young lady despite having a bad temper, performed well inside and attracted admiration.

Rong Man, a scandal-ridden beautiful celebrity who gained many fans after the reality show.

Chen Xingyang, a rich playboy often seen with fast cars and beautiful women in his social account, was among the pursuers of the commissioner before the show, though she ignored him. For this, he was somewhat embarrassed.

Wen Chulin, a sophomore at T University, the commissioner’s junior, also one of her pursuers. Shy in nature, always obedient and attentive in front of the commissioner, but she felt nothing for him, never considering any relationship.

Lu Yu, the heir of the Lu Family, handsome and cold, had some interaction with the commissioner, who seemed to have some feelings for him, uncertain about his, but surely nonexistent after the reality show since inside he failed to awaken a superpower when infected and turned into a zombie, and she intended to shoot him in the head. Even if it was fake, knowing some inside tidbits, the idea is likely unsettling.

He Guiyun, the He Family’s elder son, also another pursuer of the commissioner, unruly by nature, passionate yet cleaner in private life than the playboy, just interested in the commissioner and joined the program to chase her. But post-show, he notably cooled off, essentially due to her abandoning him when surrounded by zombies; even if fake, human nature doesn’t support love.

”Now what do we do?” A woman’s voice suddenly echoed, and Ah Chen looked up to see Rong Man pressed against the window, staring outside.
