Role Stealer: The Script Executioner

The doors opened.

And every world began watching us again.

The golden field disappeared beneath a storm of light.

Each door showed a different future. Some opened onto peaceful cities. Others revealed burning landscapes, empty rooms, ruined towers, and roads leading nowhere. Behind every door stood a version of one of us.

A version that had chosen differently.

A version that had refused a promise.

A version that had accepted a crown.

A version that had remained behind.

The people of the golden field cried out as the doors multiplied above them.

Ren held Kai’s hand.

”Do not let them take us.”

Kai looked at him.

”I will not.”

The version wearing my face lifted the black crown.

”Then choose.”

The fifth bell rang.

The sound entered every door at once.

The golden grass bent toward the roads. The people who had chosen new names were pulled backward, their bodies turning transparent. Some reached for one another. Others called out to Althea.

She raised both hands.

The field responded, but the black roads continued spreading.

”I cannot stop it,” she said.

Marcus looked at me.

”You have to choose a primary world.”

”What does that mean?”

”One world must become the center. The others will be connected to it.”

”And if I refuse?”

”The versions will choose for you.”

The figure wearing my face smiled.

”You always did prefer refusing until someone else paid the price.”

Kai stepped forward.

”You are not him.”

The figure looked at Kai.

”I am the part of him that remembers.”

”No. You are the part that wants to be obeyed.”

The black crown in the figure’s hands began to glow.

The roads around us moved toward Kai.

The boy-version of him stepped out from one of the doors. He still held the wooden bird, but his face was no longer afraid.

”You left us,” the child said.

Kai stared at him.

”I was taken.”

”You still left.”

”I came back.”

”After you became someone else.”

Kai took a step toward the child.

”I am still here.”

The child raised the wooden bird.

”Then prove it.”

A door opened behind him.

Inside was the first world.

The white room.

The two beds.

Liora standing beside Kai’s sleeping body.

Their mother singing near the window.

The child walked into the room.

Kai followed.

Mira reached for him.

”Kai!”

He looked back.

”I have to answer him.”

The door closed behind both versions.

The black road beneath it turned red.

I reached for the Authority.

No command appeared.

Only a sentence.

**THE BODY MUST CHOOSE WHICH MEMORY IS REAL.**

I stepped toward the door.

The version wearing my face blocked me.

”You cannot enter.”

”I can.”

”You will interfere.”

”I have interfered with enough.”

”That is not regret.”

”It is responsibility.”

The figure tilted its head.

”You still believe those are different.”

Before I could answer, Aster stepped beside me.

His scar was glowing brightly.

”Move.”

The alternate Arthur looked at him.

”You have no place in this choice.”

”I have had no place in most choices.”

”That is because you were only a witness.”

Aster raised his blade.

”No.”

The scar opened.

”I was the person who remembered what everyone else wanted to forget.”

Light erupted from his neck and struck the black crown.

The alternate Arthur staggered.

The golden sky filled with images.

Aster’s first crossing.

His years beyond the door.

His loneliness.

His anger.

His decision to return.

The people he had failed to save.

The version of Aster without a face appeared behind him.

Aster stared at it.

The faceless version spoke.

”You could have remained silent.”

”Yes.”

”You could have stayed beyond the first door.”

”Yes.”

”You could have allowed the system to erase you.”

”Yes.”

”Why did you return?”

Aster looked toward Mira.

”Because someone had to remember.”

The faceless version reached toward him.

”Then remember everything.”

The light entered Aster’s body.

He screamed.

His scar split open completely.

Mira moved to him.

”Aster!”

He fell to one knee.

The faceless version began entering him, replacing his features with a smooth white surface.

Aster grabbed his own face.

”I am not you.”

The version continued.

”You are every moment you refused to leave.”

Aster looked toward the golden field.

”Then I refuse again.”

He drove his blade into the ground.

The road beneath him shattered.

The faceless version broke apart into thousands of fragments. Each fragment became a small mirror, reflecting a different version of Aster.

Some were afraid.

Some were angry.

Some were tired.

Aster raised his head.

”I remember them.”

The mirrors dissolved.

His face remained his own.

Mira helped him stand.

”You could have warned me before doing that.”

”I did not know what I was doing.”

”That has never stopped you before.”

He smiled weakly.

The door containing Kai began to shake.

A sound came from inside.

A child crying.

Then an older voice.

”Choose.”

I placed my hand on the door.

The surface became warm.

A memory entered me.

Kai in the white room.

The child-version stood before the sleeping body.

”You can stay,” he said.

Kai answered, ”I want to leave.”

”You will forget us.”

”I will remember.”

”You will forget.”

”Then I will remember again.”

”You will become Arthur.”

”I will become whoever I choose.”

The child looked toward Liora.

”She will remain.”

”I will return.”

”You always promise.”

Kai looked down at the wooden bird.

”Then I will stop promising.”

The child frowned.

”What will you do?”

”Choose every time.”

The door opened.

Kai stood inside the white room.

The child faced him.

The two of them were identical except for their eyes.

The child still belonged to the first world.

Kai belonged to the road.

”You cannot take my memories,” the child said.

”I do not want to.”

”You cannot leave me here.”

”I do not want to.”

”Then what do you want?”

Kai knelt before him.

”I want you to come with me.”

The child stared.

”If I leave, the first world loses its heart.”

”No. It gains a witness.”

”I do not understand.”

”Neither do I.”

Kai extended his hand.

”But I know I am tired of choosing between being alive and being yours.”

The child slowly placed his hand in Kai’s.

The white room collapsed.

The door shattered.

Both versions returned to the golden field.

Kai fell forward.

I caught him.

His body was burning with silver light.

The child-version had disappeared.

Ren ran toward him.

”Is he gone?”

Kai opened his eyes.

”No.”

”Where is he?”

Kai placed a hand over his chest.

”Here.”

The silver lines beneath his skin no longer formed a chain.

They formed a small circle.

A home.

The black roads around us stopped moving for a moment.

The alternate Arthur looked toward Kai.

”You have changed the structure.”

Kai stood.

”You wanted me to choose one memory.”

”I did.”

”I chose all of them.”

The alternate Arthur’s smile faded.

”That is not possible.”

”It is now.”

A black door opened behind the alternate Arthur.

Inside stood another version of me.

This one wore the Architect Authority like a crown. His coat was covered in silver lines, and his eyes were empty.

The first alternate pointed toward him.

”That is what you become if you continue.”

The crowned version raised one hand.

The golden field shook.

People fell to their knees.

Ren cried out.

Althea tried to reach him, but the road pushed her back.

The crowned version spoke.

”A world cannot survive without a central will.”

I stepped toward him.

”It can survive without your will.”

”Every choice creates conflict.”

”Yes.”

”Every conflict creates suffering.”

”Yes.”

”Then control is mercy.”

”No.”

The crowned version looked at Vaelora’s empty place beyond the threshold.

”Ask her.”

Vaelora was standing on the other side of the door to Lyradis. She had returned to the golden field without anyone noticing.

Her eyes were on the crowned version.

The black crown in his hands resembled the one she had worn.

He held it toward her.

”You understand.”

Vaelora looked at him.

”I understand what it costs.”

”You could rule again.”

”I could.”

”Lyradis would be peaceful.”

”It would be obedient.”

”Is that not better than chaos?”

Vaelora stepped onto the golden grass.

”No.”

The crowned version turned toward her.

”You are lying.”

”I am afraid.”

”That is the same thing.”

”No.”

Vaelora moved closer.

”I was afraid that if people left, the city would die. I was afraid that if they remembered what I had done, they would hate me. I was afraid that if I stopped holding them, there would be nothing left of me.”

The black crown shook in his hands.

”But you still released them.”

”Yes.”

”Why?”

”Because love is not the right to remain necessary.”

The statement moved through the field.

The black crown cracked.

The crowned version stumbled.

Vaelora reached out.

”I will not choose for them again.”

The crown shattered.

The version wearing it began dissolving.

But before it disappeared, it looked at me.

”You think this ends because you refused the crown?”

”No.”

”You think the worlds will choose wisely?”

”No.”

”You think people can live without someone above them?”

”No.”

”Then what do you believe?”

I looked at the golden field.

At Ren.

At Kai.

At Aster.

At Mira.

At Vaelora.

At the people who had chosen names for themselves.

”I believe they deserve to make their own mistakes.”

The version disappeared.

The black roads receded from the field.

The doors above us remained open, but they no longer pulled anyone toward them.

The fifth bell stopped ringing.

Silence spread through the golden world.

Then the doors began closing one after another.

The first world disappeared.

Lyradis remained open.

The violet city remained open.

The original world became a distant blue light.

The golden field remained.

Althea watched the roads vanish.

”What happened?” Marcus asked.

”The command lost its center,” she said.

”Is that good?”

”It is dangerous.”

”That was not my question.”

”It is both.”

The people who had chosen names gathered in the field.

Ren stood beside Kai.

A woman called herself Sena.

An old man chose the name Orren.

A child with silver hair chose Mira, then changed her mind when the real Mira gave her a warning look.

”I am joking,” the child said.

”You should learn to do that more carefully,” Mira answered.

Jax appeared beside us, carrying a glass vessel.

”I have chosen a new name.”

Sarah looked at him.

”No.”

”You do not even know what it is.”

”I know you.”

”I am now called—”

”No.”

He sighed.

”I remain Jax.”

”A wise decision,” Dorian said.

”Thank you. I chose it myself.”

The field began changing.

Small houses rose between the hills. Not imposed by a system. Built by the people who wanted shelter.

Paths formed where people walked.

A stream appeared because someone imagined water.

A group of children began building a wooden bridge.

No command instructed them.

No authority recorded their choices.

They simply began.

Kai looked toward the horizon.

”What happens to the doors?”

”Some will remain,” Althea said.

”For travel?”

”For communication.”

”Can anyone open them?”

”Anyone who accepts that the other side may refuse.”

Kai nodded.

”That is fair.”

Mira glanced at him.

”You are becoming wise again.”

”I hate it.”

”You said that already.”

”I am consistent.”

Aster stood apart from the others.

His scar had faded almost completely.

Mira walked toward him.

”You are not leaving.”

”No.”

”Why?”

”I am waiting.”

”For what?”

”For the world to ask me what I want to be.”

”And what will you answer?”

”I do not know.”

Mira smiled.

”Then you are finally honest.”

Vaelora stood near the threshold to Lyradis.

The city was visible behind her.

Its people had gathered in the streets.

Some stared.

Some whispered.

One woman raised a hand.

Vaelora looked at her.

The woman did not bow.

She simply pointed toward the city.

Vaelora nodded.

Then she stepped through.

No crown.

No command.

No one following behind her because they had been forced to.

Serin remained in the golden field.

”You are not going with her?” I asked.

”I will.”

”Then why stay?”

”To make sure she understands that returning is not the same as being welcomed.”

”That sounds cruel.”

”It is kind.”

Marcus looked toward the roads.

”What about the remaining system fragments?”

I felt the Authority stir.

They were still inside me.

Not commanding.

Waiting.

The command appeared one last time.

**ARCHITECT IDENTITY: UNRESOLVED.**

I looked at it.

Kai came beside me.

”You do not have to answer.”

”I know.”

”What happens if you leave it unresolved?”

”Someone may try to claim it.”

”Then let them try.”

I touched the command.

It broke into five pieces.

One went into Kai.

One into Mira.

One into Aster.

One followed Vaelora through the Lyradis door.

The last remained with me.

Not enough to rule.

Enough to remember.

The message changed.

**AUTHORITY DISTRIBUTED.**

Then:

**NO PRIMARY ARCHITECT.**

The golden sky brightened.

For the first time, the Authority did not feel like a crown.

It felt like a scar that had stopped hurting.

Althea looked at me.

”Now you can leave.”

”Where?”

”Wherever the next world begins.”

A road appeared beyond the hills.

It led toward a distant horizon where a pale sun was rising.

Kai looked at it.

”Is that another world?”

”No.”

”What is it?”

”A place that has not decided what it wants to become.”

Mira joined us.

”Then we should be careful.”

Aster approached.

”We should be curious.”

Jax raised his hand.

”We should find food first.”

Sarah sighed.

”You are impossible.”

”I am consistent.”

Dorian and Neri walked behind them.

Marcus remained near the Lyradis door, watching the golden field.

”Are you coming?” I asked.

Marcus shook his head.

”Not yet.”

”Why?”

”Someone has to remember the old world while you build the new one.”

”You do not have to do that alone.”

He looked toward Serin.

”I know.”

Serin stood beside him.

Together, they returned to Lyradis.

The door remained open.

No one closed it.

Kai looked at me.

”Are you ready?”

”No.”

”Good.”

We walked toward the horizon.

Mira beside Kai.

Aster behind us.

Jax complaining.

Sarah answering.

Dorian and Neri carrying the records.

The golden field opening beneath our feet.

Behind us, the worlds remained connected by doors.

Not prisons.

Not commands.

Choices.

Ahead of us, the pale sun rose over a road that had no name.

And somewhere beyond the horizon, a new bell began to ring.

This time, no one knew what it wanted.

So we kept walking.
