Gun of Ashes

Without warning, the roaring gunfire erupted, slender metal slicing through the air.

Shao Liangye was completely unaware of the impending crisis, and when he realized what was happening, Lorenzo next to him had already been hit and penetrated, the massive force propelling him towards the ruins behind, leaving only a cloud of dust.

”Ho... Holmes.”

Shao Liangye’s words were intermittent, his pupils slightly dazed, everything happened too fast, leaving him no time for further thought.

A peculiar scent lingered in the air, a mix of blood and gunpowder, while the scene of Lorenzo being pierced and flung away remained in his vision...

The Peacekeeper pulled the trigger, but it was the last bullet; it started reloading, heavy metal clattering down as stray shots hit against the sturdy armor, sparking on impact.

Eve fired at the Peacekeeper, but the armor was too strong, she shouted loudly.

”It’s been corroded! The Peacekeeper has been corroded!”

From her vantage point, Eve could clearly see this, horrified to discover that between the gaps in the armor, a significant amount of Demon flesh was proliferating, and it was spreading rapidly, some already covering the armor’s surface.

Another gun barrel pointed at Eve, and she immediately shot out the hook gun, swinging downward, just as cold metal slashed through, shattering the position she had just occupied.

”Damn! The enemy is nearby! He’s corroding the armor!”

Red Falcon didn’t have time to check on Lorenzo’s condition, hiding under cover as the Peacekeeper was corroded; he began shooting, and the fragile defenses were easily pierced.

Inside the casino, some people were completely oblivious to the changes happening, steel slicing through them, tearing them apart, while a stench of blood fog rose slowly.

Roger was probing the limits of the Purification Mechanism’s response; if they could perfectly resolve all this, then he would plan for the next attack, if they failed, it would be Roger’s all-out assault.

More Peacekeepers were corroded and controlled by Roger, injected with Florun Potion inside their armor, technically capable of temporarily resisting corrosion, but these metals weren’t coated with Holy Silver, unable to prevent Roger’s [Gap] invasion, giving him an opportunity.

The first three Peacekeepers to approach here had completely mutated, their operators beneath the armor transformed into Demonic flesh, red swelling continuously until the armor bulged slightly, resembling bloated, metal-strewn flesh.

The Peacekeeper suppressed the casino with firepower, the constant gunfire making it impossible for anyone to raise their heads; standing at a high point, Shao Liangxi also escaped like Eve, hiding in cover.

”That’s the tricky part of fighting Demons; any second our own people could turn into enemies.”

Red Falcon leaned against the rubble, shouting at Shao Liangye hiding on the opposite side.

He really hated the feeling of having to fight his own kind, what he hated even more was how he seemed unable to defeat his own people.

”Do you have any solutions, Anonymous?”

Red Falcon hoped for these foreigners.

”We do, but it might be useless; Roger is nearby, and once he decides to engage us head-on, we won’t stand a chance.”

Shao Liangye was somewhat pessimistic.

They were just a bunch of pitiful little mice, played with by the fierce big cat Roger, their lives were in Roger’s hands, just waiting for when he’d had enough.

”To say, maybe everyone here is already dead.”

”Dead?”

”Yes, dead, Red Falcon, you might already be invaded by Roger, only you’re too weak to realize the enemy has come, of course, it could be you, or it could be someone else.”

Shao Liangye thought for a moment, then added, ”However, it’s definitely not Anonymous.”

”Why is that?” Red Falcon couldn’t understand what these Jiuxia people were so confident about.

”He will regret invading me.”

Shao Liangye didn’t explain much more, his gaze fierce as he looked outside, ”Mr. Holmes is already dead, we need to sort this out.”

Without waiting for Red Falcon to say anything, he directly flipped over the cover and rushed out.

”Shao Liangye!”

Red Falcon shouted, but clearly couldn’t stop him.

Watching the departing figure, Red Falcon was momentarily speechless, appearing very perplexed.

”Holmes... is dead?”

The three Peacekeepers had already surrounded the vicinity, two stood guard at the street, one delved into the casino, followed by countless Demons behind them.

Shao Liangye knew clearly, before reinforcements arrived, this was the last stronghold, once invaded, their chances of survival would become increasingly slim.

His silhouette was rapid, though not physically enhanced like a Demon Hunter, years of training had brought Shao Liangye to the limits of the human body.

Shao Liangye moved swiftly, every shot precisely hitting the Demons, not killing them, but effectively rendering them powerless, yet more gunfire followed him, executing the powerless Demons.

Shao Liangxi appeared in the casino, elusive as she bypassed the Demons, returning here to continue assisting Shao Liangye.

Before any joy could be felt, the tall shadow obscured Shao Liangye.

The Peacekeeper raised the Giant Blade mounted on its back, like an executioner’s guillotine, the sharp blade mirroring Shao Liangye’s face as if on a mirror.

One strike shattered the stone.

Amid flying dust, Shao Liangye dodged the slash, his heart racing, he ran towards the side of the Peacekeeper.
