Gun of Ashes

[Log Entry-430]

We have systematically organized the existing research results. It is certain that what surges within the Mutated Area is a force we have yet to understand. We are unclear why it has appeared in this world.

But many things are like this. Without any reason, they just appear so terribly out of the blue in the world.

Like many newborns, I think if everyone could go back to before their birth, they would certainly reconsider whether they actually want to be born.

Unlike the laws of the material world, the Mutated Area seems more like a world of idealism, where anything is possible. Dr. Field is attempting to see if we can control this kind of ”distortion,” akin to the alchemy that people were superstitious about in ancient times. My current research goal is to see if I can directionally transform a certain substance within the Mutated Area into gold.

The substance I chose is my underwear... Johnny always says I have the talent of a comedic artist.

Meetings, endless meetings, and then research.

I’m not sure how long it has been since I last wrote a log; every day I’m busy to death.

Today’s research has made new progress. We are systematically understanding this ”abrupt” ”distortion” that appeared in our world in a way that humans can comprehend.

In Dr. Field’s words, essentially, the ”distortion” did not just suddenly appear but has always existed. Its impact on this world was minimal until now when it began to take effect, shaking the foundations of reality, thus manifesting as a phenomenon.

The Melward distortion value of the entire world is continuously rising, which is why the ”distortion” has appeared.

We are studying how to resolve this, or rather, to ”weight” reality, making the foundations of reality more stable and reducing the Melward distortion value as much as possible. Perhaps when it approaches zero infinitely, the Mutated Area will completely disappear.

[Log Entry-666]

We observed something in the Mutated Area, which seems to be a kind of regular ”phenomenon.” This is a brand new discovery. It means that within the chaotic ”distortion,” there may exist controllable laws.

Dr. Field says the ”distortion” might not only exist in reality but more like an expansion in dimension. No matter what kind of reality you are in, you will become aware of its existence.

He defines this core ”distortion” as [Infinite Void].

Its meaning might be... the boundless sky?

It’s said that when Dr. Field was young, he always wanted to be an astronaut, but due to not meeting the physical requirements, he had to leave with tears. Perhaps this also reflects his obsession.

He proposed a series of systematic understandings.

Dr. Field believes that all ”realities” fall within the radiation range of the [Infinite Void], only on different ”heights.”

Like an ice block melting under the sun, the ice block, or reality, closer to the light source melts faster, collapses quicker.

No, it shouldn’t be described in terms of speed. It should be said that the degree of melting, of distortion, is deeper.

The ”height” at which our reality is located should be far from the light source, so far that our reality possesses a set of cognizable physical laws. These rules and frameworks make our reality increasingly solid. Now, the ”height” of our reality is rising. Perhaps the rational world will collapse...

But on a brighter note, such ”distortion” might just trigger some supernatural phenomena, and maybe some super-beings. Thinking about it, such a world would be quite cool.

Just kidding.

The Melward distortion value is continuously rising. At this rate, our world will collapse sooner or later. We need to find a way to save this world, at least to prevent, to ensure that we won’t have to face all this so tragically.

Dr. Field has proposed to report it to the highest directive, and the directive has been approved.

We will conduct an ”ascension,” raise the ”height” within the region, and try to observe the ”light source.”

[Log Entry-???]

This was a mistake.

This was an extremely foolish mistake. We shouldn’t have done it.

Something crawled out of the [Infinite Void]. Perhaps it wasn’t even a thing, just some chance, some... ”distortion” opportunity.

A researcher came into contact with it, but he did not realize these things. Or perhaps when he did realize it, he himself was already ”distorted,” and he turned into a mad monster, with flesh and blood proliferating endlessly, sharp claws tearing through the flesh, like a Demon from a nightmare.

Security guards opened fire on it, but to no avail. It grew extremely rapidly. Facing intense gunfire, it grew sturdy Scale Armor, the strength of its flesh nearly immortal... This is completely against biological power.

But this is reality because reality has been ”distorted,” the Melward distortion value is continuously rising, and the world bound by physical laws has gained freedom. Thus these chaotic nightmares that were supposed to appear in nightmares have all crawled out of dreams.

I locked myself in my dormitory, writing these down. The sound of gunfire is still echoing outside. I’m unsure if I’ll survive... In any case, I must record these.

When I woke up, the first face I saw was Reza, this guy cheekily grinned at me and said welcome back.

But I really wished I hadn’t woken up. If I had died that day, it would have been great, then my nightmare would have ended there.

According to what Reza said, when he dug me out of the rubble, I was already in this state, with my body below the chest ground into a bloody pulp.
