Gun of Ashes

This quiet is damn eerie, the old butler stared at Lorenzo, not responding to his words until after a long time, he slowly spoke.

”Yes, so is she here?”

Lorenzo vigorously shook his head, from his skilled demeanor, it seemed this kind of situation had happened many times before.

The rigid face of the old butler finally relaxed a bit, he sighed deeply.

”Mr. Holmes, you don’t mind if we search here, do you?”

”Does it matter if I mind?”

”Probably not.”

The old butler said blandly.

He was Stuart’s butler, and the Stuart family was the center of the vast aristocratic group of Stuart, those who were ennobled due to wartime grants, had achieved even higher status during the Radiant War, they were grateful and looked up to the Stuarts.

Such families are the most troublesome, perhaps you can easily take down one, but what follows is the revenge of the entire group, across various industries, across different social classes.

Before his voice fell, the old butler stood up and walked toward the bathroom, still remembering to load his firearm as he walked.

He wouldn’t harm the lady, but of course, accidentally blowing off the head of a certain detective might still happen.

”Wait, what are you doing!”

Lorenzo flailed his arms, trying to stop him from entering, but it was to no avail.

Pulling back the shower curtain, the old butler and Lorenzo were just a step apart.

”Look... there’s nothing, want to help me scrub my back?”

Bubbles filled the entire water surface, Lorenzo looked perfectly innocent, but the old butler probably didn’t think so, he stared hard at Lorenzo, and when Lorenzo was almost set on edge, he finally put away his gun and turned to leave.

”If you see the lady, tell her to come home early, there’s a family banquet waiting for her tonight.”

The old butler walked to the door, but as he was about to leave, he seemed to see something and immediately turned toward the closet, Lorenzo’s heart leapt up, as a Demon Hunter he wasn’t afraid of these people, but many things couldn’t be solved with mere fighting, like these troublesome fellows.

His hand was already on the closet, and at this perilous moment, a gunshot rang out.

Mrs. Van Rudd stood in the doorway looking furious, holding a revolver, a bullet left a big hole on Lorenzo’s floor, still smoking.

”Who stepped on my carpet and dirtied it!”

This old lady descended like a Celestial God, with decades-long menopause to save Lorenzo.

The old butler was stunned, withdrew his hand, seemed to realize it was him, just about to apologize, but was blasted back by Mrs. Van Rudd’s angry scold.

”Get out after you’re done yakking!”

Lorenzo was so moved he nearly wanted to hug her.

The old butler did his best to maintain his gentlemanly demeanor, but clearly, in front of Mrs. Van Rudd that didn’t really work.

Finally, he took one more look at Lorenzo, as if warning him, and led his men away.

Lorenzo wrapped himself in a towel and climbed out, looked downstairs then at Mrs. Van Rudd.

”If you don’t mind me being all soaked, I’d really like to hug you properly.”

”More importantly, Lorenzo, the cost of repairing the floor will be deducted from your rent.”

Mrs. Van Rudd obviously didn’t have a good face towards Lorenzo, saying that she turned and walked downstairs, leisurely speaking.

”Make sure to take the biscuits when Selyu leaves.”

Lorenzo turned sharply, only to see the closet already opened, the culprit seemed as if nothing had happened, still looked at Lorenzo expressionlessly, finally curled the corner of her mouth slightly like she was pleased.

Sometimes you have to admit, Selyu is better than Lorenzo in many aspects, and it’s not just a little bit.

”So are you trying to avoid that banquet? You must have a lot of ways to dodge it right.”

Lorenzo finally put on his clothes, that naked feeling was really unpleasant.

”Not exactly, I just want to go somewhere, maybe only you can take me.”

Selyu said as she put on a coat, her similarly pale golden hair pinned up, skillfully took the deerstalker hat from the coat rack and put it on.

If you just looked at the back, you’d find she’s almost a small-sized version of Lorenzo.

Lorenzo’s face was a bit gloomy, as Selyu Stuart, there aren’t many places in Old Dunling she can’t go, eliminated one by one, and finally pointed to a not so desirable place.

”What do you want to do there?”

”Watch a show.”

”Show?”

Selyu nodded seriously, saying.

”There’s news saying pirates smuggled a batch of Eastern machinery, I’m very interested.”

”Just because of this? You could even just buy it outright.”

”But Yawei is so rigid, he won’t even let me touch firearms.”

It seemed Lorenzo had once again become a tool, and now it was best to quickly make this little girl happy.

He asked with some headache.

”So which part of Lower City District is it?”

…

Night gradually covered Old Dunling, a big and small detective staggered along the street, occasionally breathing out light pale fog, which dispersed afterward.

Lorenzo didn’t have many friends in Old Dunling because, due to work, those he interacted with were mostly desperate people, who might just die tomorrow.

He wasn’t really sure if Selyu counted as his friend, because Lorenzo and Selyu met just because of a job, the two of them walking together like desperate souls, their steps crossed half of Gaulunaro.

Perhaps it was the kindred spirit of desperate souls, or maybe he couldn’t bear to let this unlucky kid just die off, Lorenzo taught the girl many things on the way back to Old Dunling, from how to use firearms to how to utilize her acute insight into human nature, and she learned very well, even showing traces of Lorenzo’s ways.

At that time, Lorenzo even considered whether to take her as an assistant upon returning to Old Dunling, but when Old Dunling unfolded before them, what awaited him... more accurately, what awaited Selyu was a grand welcome team, and after a few days this girl was confirmed as the lost bloodline of the Stuart family, bestowed with that noble surname.

Only then did Lorenzo realize he had been played by Selyu, for work he needed to infiltrate Gaulunaro and bring back Selyu, precisely some stories Selyu knew about prominent figures there, and this girl used it to threaten him, making Lorenzo take her back to Old Dunling.

Who would have known it was just a facade, this girl was incredibly clever from that moment on, even Lorenzo couldn’t help but admire.

As the sole heir of the Stuart family, many had designs on her, but they were all blocked outside by the Stuart group, this girl was surrounded by countless nobles, while he now was taking her to the Lower City District.

Whenever he thought of this, Lorenzo felt regretful, he was just a step away from wealth and glory.

”Honestly, Selyu, if you’re truly doing it for my good, could you stop causing so much trouble?”

With the kindred spirit of two desperate souls, during the early days of her return to Old Dunling, Selyu often visited Lorenzo, at first the old butler could tolerate, but when Lorenzo taught her how to blow someone’s head off with one shot, they really couldn’t sit still anymore.

”But they’re all too afraid, only you’re different.”

She answered lightly.

The azure eyes recalled that journey, now everyone saw her as the master of Stuart, but only this lunatic was indifferent to all this, as if she was still the same in his eyes.

The great detective kicked open the dark door with a Winchester; light then poured in, illuminating Selyu at that moment.
