Back to the 1980s: Becoming the Villain's Lucky Wife

Qin Jiao grew a little worried when she brought up her sister. ”I wonder if I’ve been a bad influence on her. It seems like Xiao Shi is developing into a total strong woman.”

She can fight, she can earn money, and she insists on being first in her class.

Qin Jiao teased, ”At this rate, no ordinary man will dare to marry Xiao Shi in the future.”

Shen Yi, who was feeding the baby a bottle, winked at Qin Jiao. ”When it comes to fate, who can say?”

Qin Jiao smiled faintly.

’That’s true,’ she thought. ’Perhaps my sister Xiao Shi’s destiny will arrive on its own appointed day.’

Meanwhile, after school, Xiao Shi was standing at the bus stop with her backpack on. Before long, a young man in a service cap walked over with a smile.

”Well, well, Qin Shi. Here for your beating so early today?”

Gu Xu was only twenty-one this year. He had a pair of peach blossom eyes, and his slight smile when he spoke gave people a very comfortable feeling.

But when it came to catching criminals, he didn’t pull any punches.

When first faced with a young girl like Qin Shi, he hadn’t wanted to teach her. She was just a freshman in high school; why would she be learning Sanda instead of focusing on her studies?

So, he deliberately gave the girl a hard time.

Gu Xu was just waiting for the girl to get tired and break down in tears so he could take the opportunity to convince her to quit. He didn’t even go easy on her during their spars.

But after several sessions, he never once saw her shed a tear, and a deep curiosity began to grow in him.

Xiao Shi said, her pretty face tense, ”I’m not here to get beat up. I’m here to learn how to beat people up.”

Gu Xu laughed. ”Who exactly are you planning to beat up? Isn’t high school busy? And you’re still squeezing in time to learn how to fight?”

”School is busy, but it’s manageable. I’m always first in my class, and I can just do some extra practice exams at home at night. As for who I’m going to beat up...” Xiao Shi, backpack still on, hopped onto the back of Gu Xu’s bicycle. She said in a low voice, ”I’ll beat up anyone who bullies my family.”

Gu Xu was speechless.

He had just gotten off work. Each time, he would pick up Xiao Shi and take her to a friend’s martial arts training ground.

As he pedaled the bicycle, Gu Xu was filled with curiosity. ”Xiao Shi, isn’t your family pretty well-off? Your sister and the others are all formidable people. It shouldn’t fall to you, the youngest, to protect them, should it?”

When he first heard about it from Brother Ji Changxing, Gu Xu had been reluctant. A pampered little girl from a rich family, still in high school—what could she possibly learn about Sanda?

She surely wouldn’t be able to handle any hardship.

But he never expected that Xiao Shi would actually stick with it, and without crying even once.

Gu Xu couldn’t see Xiao Shi’s expression. The young girl said calmly, ”I’m the youngest in the family, but I’ll grow up eventually, won’t I? All my life, my sister and my parents have done so much for me. How can I just sit back with a clear conscience and enjoy the fruits of their hard work? I want to use the time while I’m still young to learn more things and make myself stronger. That way, when I’m grown up, I can be the one to protect them.”

Gu Xu fell silent after hearing her.

He hadn’t expected a girl of only fifteen or sixteen to think that way.

Gu Xu suddenly recalled that Qin Shi’s older sister, Qin Jiao, had been kidnapped last year. Now he understood the girl’s reasoning a little better.

He started pedaling faster, the corners of his mouth lifting into a smile. ”I get it. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to teach you properly from now on!”

”You weren’t teaching me properly before?”

”...Ahem, no. I was just worried you couldn’t handle the hardship. Now that I know you can take it, of course I’ll teach you properly.”
