The Mafia King of Philadelphia: From witness to his doted wife

The drive stretched on for hours, the city slowly giving way to winding roads, then to open fields, and finally to the rising slopes of the mountains, until at last the car slowed and turned onto a long private drive lined with tall pines.

Sienna sat up a little straighter, watching the world change outside her window, the sharp city lines softening into something wilder, greener, quieter.

The cabin came into view first, larger than she’d expected, all warm timber and wide windows nestled against the mountainside, smoke already curling faintly from one of its chimneys as if it had been waiting for them.

Beyond it stretched acres of open land, a scattering of cattle grazing lazily near a low fence, a stable where a few horses tossed their heads at the sound of the approaching car, and beyond all of that, nothing but sky and pine-covered ridges for as far as she could see.

No other houses. No gates crowded with guards on every corner. No city noise pressing in from every direction.

It was, without question, the most beautiful place Sienna had seen since meeting Viktor and exactly what she hadn’t realized she needed.

The car rolled to a stop, and she stepped out before Viktor could even round the hood to open her door for her, drawing in a slow breath of mountain air, crisp and cold and startlingly clean.

It was chilly enough that her breath fogged faintly in front of her, and for the first time all morning she was genuinely glad she’d ignored his request to dress prettily, the heavy jacket and sweatpants suddenly felt like the smartest decision she’d made in weeks.

She turned in a slow circle, taking it all in, the mountains, the horses, the impossible quiet of it, and something in her chest loosened for the first time in longer than she could remember.

Away from the bloodshed. Away from the war simmering endlessly beneath the surface of every conversation in that mansion. Away, even if only for a little while, from Aliya’s cold eyes and her stepmother’s colder ones.

It reminded her, faintly, of the cabins in Italy, the ones from a life that felt like it belonged to someone else now, memories she didn’t like to sit with for too long.

But this place held none of that darkness. This place felt like the opposite of it entirely, a deliberate distance carved out from every possible threat, a small pocket of the world where, for once, nothing could reach her.

She walked up the wide wooden steps and into the cabin, where a handful of maids greeted them warmly at the door, taking their coats, murmuring soft welcomes, already moving efficiently through the space to prepare for their arrival.

Food would come later, they said for now, Sienna was free to settle in, to breathe, to simply be somewhere that didn’t feel like a battlefield dressed up in expensive furniture.

And she did.

She wandered the property for hours, sleeves pushed up despite the cold, laughing quietly at the cattle that ambled toward the fence looking for attention, running her palm along the velvet-soft nose of a chestnut mare who nickered softly at her touch.

Later, one of the stable hands helped her onto a gentler horse, and she rode slow, easy loops around the near pasture, hair coming loose from its knot, cheeks flushed pink from the cold and the sheer, uncomplicated joy of it.

Food came eventually, simple, warm, homemade in a way that tasted nothing like the sterile dinners served at the mansion, and she ate more than she had in days, comfortable in a way she hadn’t expected to feel here, of all places.

Through all of it, Viktor watched her.

He didn’t hover, didn’t insert himself into every moment the way she might have expected of a man used to controlling every room he stood in. He simply watched, leaning against the porch railing with his arms crossed as she rode past, standing a little apart while she fed the horses, his usual smugness quieting into something softer, something almost reverent.

He watched the wind catch loose strands of her hair. He watched the unguarded, easy way she laughed when no one was demanding anything of her.

He watched her be simply, entirely herself not the bride forced into his life, not a pawn just Sienna, free and unbothered and glowing faintly with the cold mountain air.

And with every passing hour, whatever careful walls Viktor had built around his own heart seemed to loosen a little further, brick by brick, falling for her more completely with every quiet, ordinary moment she didn’t even realize he was drinking in.

Their time at the cabin was nothing short of beautiful.

It crept up on Sienna slowly, the way warmth does when you’ve been cold for too long not all at once, but in small, accumulating moments she didn’t notice piling up until she looked back and realized just how much had shifted.

The intensity between them grew a little more with each day, quiet and steady, like something being built brick by brick without either of them quite admitting they were building it at all.

She found herself desiring him more with every hour they spent together not in the frantic, breathless way of the dream that had started all of this, but in something slower and far more dangerous.

A wanting that lived in the ordinary moments. In the way his laugh sounded different out here, looser, less guarded than the clipped, controlled version he wore back at the mansion.

In the way his sleeves would be pushed up to his forearms while he stacked firewood, and she would find her eyes lingering there far longer than was wise.

The three days blurred together into something soft and golden, stitched from small, ordinary pleasures.

They played card games at the kitchen table late into the evening, Viktor cheating shamelessly and grinning when she caught him, utterly unrepentant.

They cooked together, or rather, Sienna cooked while Viktor hovered uselessly, insisting he was helping while mostly just stealing pieces of whatever she was chopping and earning a swat with a wooden spoon for it.

They rode the horses out along the ridge in the mornings when the mist still clung low to the grass, and simply walked in the afternoons when neither of them felt like doing anything at all except being outside, together, unhurried.
