Rise in the Martial Chaos: Starting From a Martial Arts School

Yang Jing stood still, his eyes following Bai Bing’s figure.

He watched until her pale figure vanished at the end of the mountain path to the peak, completely hidden by the lush greenery. Only then did he slowly look away.

He took a deep breath. The crisp scent of mountain flora filled his lungs, slightly calming the storm of excitement and disbelief in his heart.

Without further delay, he turned and headed down Lingxi Peak, hurrying straight toward the canteen.

Along the way, Bai Bing’s words echoed in his mind: in three days, he was to go to Lingxi Hall to take the Bone Jade Pill, and the Peak Master would personally stand guard for him.

Such a monumental opportunity had fallen into his lap, leaving him feeling both thrilled and a little stunned, as if it wasn’t quite real.

It was like a pie had fallen from the sky and hit him squarely, leaving him dazed. Even his steps felt a little lighter.

...

Before long, Yang Jing arrived at the canteen.

When the disciple in charge saw him, he hurried over with a welcoming smile.

Yang Jing got straight to the point. ”From today on, I’d like to change my three daily meals. Please switch me to two pounds of Rare Exotic Beast Meat per meal. The vegetable side dishes and porridge can remain as they are.”

The managing disciple readily agreed, adding with a smile, ”Rest assured, Junior Brother Yang. For anyone who orders Rare Exotic Beast Meat, the vegetable sides and porridge are complimentary. You won’t have to spend any extra contribution points.”

’He was surprised, though.’

’For an ordinary disciple in the Inner Qi Realm, high-grade Exotic Beast Meat was more than enough to cover their daily energy needs.’

’Switching to Rare Exotic Beast Meat seemed like a waste.’

’But as the one managing the canteen, he certainly wasn’t going to turn away business.’

’If Yang Jing wanted Rare Exotic Beast Meat, the canteen had plenty to provide.’

Yang Jing nodded. After confirming the meal change, he turned and left the canteen.

As he walked the mountain path back toward Lingxi Peak, Yang Jing’s brow furrowed slightly.

He touched the Sect Token tucked inside his robes as a sense of urgency washed over him.

’The price of Rare Exotic Beast Meat is far higher than the high-grade version I’ve been eating.’

’By my calculations, I’ll now be spending four hundred contribution points a day on food alone. That amounts to twelve thousand contribution points a month—no small sum.’

’I did a quick mental calculation: I now have fewer than ninety thousand contribution points left.’

’Even if I do nothing else—no exchanging for new techniques, no purchasing Elixirs, no using the Training Rooms...’

’—my points won’t even last me until the end of the year on food alone.’

’Besides, food is only a tiny fraction of the overall expenses of cultivation. I’ll need a massive number of points to exchange for the next volume of the Indestructible True Skill, not to mention purchasing Elixirs and using the Training Rooms. What doesn’t cost contribution points?’

Yang Jing’s pace gradually slowed as he mulled things over.

’I need to find a way to earn some contribution points, and soon. Otherwise, I’ll burn through my savings in no time.’

Just then, an idea struck him, and his eyes lit up.

’That’s right! Now that I’ve broken through to the Qi Eating Realm, and it’s been less than three years since I joined the sect, I should be eligible for the Hidden Dragon List!’

’The Hidden Dragon List isn’t just for glory; the sect gives out significant rewards to the disciples on it. And I’m pretty sure one of those rewards is contribution points!’

At this thought, Yang Jing felt a surge of excitement, and the worry lines on his forehead smoothed out.

Without another moment of hesitation, he quickened his pace, striding toward the Inner Sect Disciple living quarters on the mid-level of Lingxi Peak.

His knowledge of the Hidden Dragon List was extremely limited. He had been so focused on his training that all he knew was that it was a list the sect maintained for exceptionally talented young disciples. Anyone on it was considered the cream of the crop among their peers.

He was unclear, however, on the specific ranking criteria or the tangible rewards one received for making the list.

But even if Yang Jing didn’t know, someone else was bound to.

And on Lingxi Peak, there was just such a know-it-all who could certainly answer his questions.

With this in mind, Yang Jing immediately executed his Body Technique. Wind seemed to whip up from under his feet as he shot forward like an arrow loosed from a bow, streaking past the plants on either side of the path with a soft RUSTLE.

In a matter of moments, he arrived at the Inner Sect Disciple living quarters on the mid-level of Lingxi Peak.

A winding path paved with bluestone slabs snaked between neatly staggered courtyards on either side.

Yang Jing confidently made his way to Qing No. 2 Courtyard and saw that its bamboo gate was ajar, not locked.

He tilted his head slightly and could hear faint sounds from within the courtyard. Clearly, someone was home.

This was Lin Ziheng’s residence, just a few dozen paces from his own Qing No. 4 Courtyard.

Yang Jing had come specifically to ask Lin Ziheng about the rewards for making the Hidden Dragon List.

Lin Ziheng was known on Lingxi Peak by the moniker ”Bai Xiaosheng.” He came from the prominent Lin Family of the Prefecture City and had dealings with the Xuanzhen Sect since he was a child. As a result, he knew the sect’s rules, rankings, resource allocation, and other such matters like the back of his hand.

After joining Lingxi Peak, he’d even managed to uncover all the internal secrets of the Seven Veins. If you had a question, he was definitely the right person to ask.

Yang Jing walked up to the gate, raised his hand, and knocked lightly on the bamboo door. KNOCK KNOCK.

Soon, the noises from the courtyard stopped, followed by Lin Ziheng’s slightly confused voice. ”Who is it?”

As he spoke, a set of footsteps drew closer, and a moment later, the bamboo gate was pulled open from within.

When Lin Ziheng saw Yang Jing standing outside, he was taken aback for a moment, a surprised look on his face. ”Junior Brother Yang? Didn’t you leave with the Peak Master early this morning? What brings you here?”
