I Overhear Animals' Thoughts to Feed My Family

Chapter 275: Chapter 211: You Beat the Men, I’ll Take the Women

”Heh heh, don’t look at me. Let’s do it like this: we won’t bully their family. The women are already fighting, so the men can’t just stand by, can we? This is a matter between my Zhao Family and his Li Family. Captain Li, have them drop their tools. We won’t use our guns. We’ll settle this with our own abilities.”

”Yes, yes! Hurry and throw down those axes and what-not. Let’s all talk this over properly.”

Li Daya shouted at Li Heihu’s family. Li Heihu’s father saw that Zhao Wendong had brought quite a few people. His own side, even counting Li Heihu, only had five men. They were clearly outnumbered. He was instantly displeased and said, his neck stiff with defiance.

”And what if we don’t put them down!”

”Don’t put them down? Then let’s just see what’s faster, your axe or my gun.”

With a loud CLACK, Zhao Wendong racked his gun’s bolt. Zhao Wenjun and Zhao Wenwu immediately did the same. Zhao Wenwu raised his gun as if to fire, but Zhao Weiguo, standing next to him, saw and grabbed it, forcing it down. Seeing the way Zhao Wendong and his crew operated, Li Heihu’s father realized his own weapon was useless. ’There’s no way we can compete with them.’ He dropped the sickle in his hand, and his sons all threw down their shovels, pickaxes, and other tools.

Li Daya, the captain of the Li Village Production Team, scurried over like a lackey and quickly gathered up the weapons from the ground. Zhao Wendong smiled and handed his gun to Niu Yuesheng. His gaze swept over to where Lin Zhiyin and the women were fighting and saw that their side had the complete upper hand. The three women from Li Heihu’s family were howling in misery as Lin Zhiyin and her group beat them.

”Alright. Women fight women, men fight men. Let’s start!”

The moment the words left his mouth, he sent Li Heihu’s father flying with a kick. Zhao Wenjun and Zhao Wenwu copied Zhao Wendong, shoving their guns at Niu Yuesheng and charging straight into the fray. Zhao Ergou handed a cleaver to Zhao Damei, then leaped up and punched Li Heihu square in the face. He hated this brother-in-law more than anyone. ’My sister married you, but you can’t even protect her. What good are you?’

The four of them from Zhao Wendong’s side went up against the five from Li Heihu’s family and easily gained the upper hand. This was mainly because Zhao Wenwu was an absolute beast, beating Li Heihu’s two older brothers so badly they ran for their lives. Niu Yuesheng couldn’t stand just watching anymore. He thrust the guns he was holding at Zhao Weiguo.

”Heh heh, Er Gouzi is my brother-in-law, so his business is my business, of course!”

With that, he charged forward and kicked Li Heihu right in the crotch—a vicious, dirty move. Nearby, Sanwazi’s eyes darted about. Seeing Li Heihu’s father pinned to the ground and getting pummeled by Brother San, he ran over and started kicking the man brutally in the head. He was young and not very strong, but he aimed every kick at the man’s eyes and nose, turning his face into a bloody mess. In the bare-knuckle brawl between the two families, the Zhao Family had scored a total victory.

Cradling the guns, Zhao Weiguo exchanged a look with Li Daya, and both men smiled. Zhao Weiguo’s smile was knowing; Li Daya’s was awkward. By now, Li Village’s army of gawking spectators had arrived, packing the doorway so tightly it was impassable. They stood three rows deep, watching as Zhao Wendong and his crew chased down and beat the Li Heihu family. The Li Family, who usually threw their weight around the village, confident in their numbers, weren’t just having their men beaten into a miserable state—their women were also wailing and screaming their heads off.

They were particularly captivated by the two women, who fought with a brutal, clean efficiency. Each was more beautiful than the last, and even the way they beat people down was a sight to behold. Many of the Li Village men were completely mesmerized. When Li Heihu and his family saw that the villagers had arrived, they repeatedly cried out for help. But seeing Zhao Weiguo holding a bundle of guns and Captain Li Daya standing right beside him, the people of Li Village wisely chose to remain spectators.

”Make way, make way!”

Shouts suddenly erupted from the entrance. A commotion went through the crowd as they parted ways. Moments later, four or five rough-looking young men charged in. These were Li Village’s local loafers and troublemakers, the leaders of the younger generation. Upon seeing them, even Li Daya proactively nodded and greeted their leader politely.

”Bingzi, you’re here.”

Li Bing completely ignored the production team captain, Li Daya. His eyes locked directly onto the figure in the military-style woolen overcoat.

”Oh, Bing... Bingzi! Your uncle here is being beaten to death! Quick, save me!”

”Bingzi, save me!”

”Quick, help us, Brother Bing!”

The moment he saw Li Bing arrive, Li Heihu’s father immediately cried out for help. He was Li Bing’s close paternal uncle and knew that Li Bing was the leader of the village’s youth. ’If he helps me,’ he thought, ’not even Li Daya can control the situation. Then no matter how tough Zhao Wendong and his friends are, they won’t escape a whole village of people!’ Clearly, Li Heihu’s father wasn’t the only one thinking this; Li Heihu’s brothers also started shouting for Li Bing to help.

Hearing the Li family’s calls, and with everyone growing a bit tired from the fight, the brawling stopped. All eyes turned toward the entrance. A swaggering young man led his group through the crowd and stopped right in front of Zhao Wendong.

”Bingzi, he’s the one! He’s the one who hit me! Help your uncle beat...”

He didn’t even get to finish his sentence before Li Bing kicked him square in the face. The old geezer’s face was already a bloody mess, but that kick turned it into a crimson canvas. Without a single glance at Li Heihu’s father, whom he’d just kicked aside, Li Bing shouted with a face full of excitement.

”Brother Dong!”

The young men behind him, their faces full of hero-worship, also shouted in unison.

”Brother Dong!”

Zhao Wendong recognized Li Bing and the guys behind him. Two of them had fought alongside him and Li Bing at the Wang Family’s Hut. He smiled, clapped Li Bing on the shoulder, and then nodded to his two other ’brothers-in-arms.’ The faces of all three immediately lit up with happy, proud smiles.

”What are you guys doing here?”

”Heh, we were just playing... we were just playing cards when we heard you’d come to cause trouble for the Li Heihu family, so we hurried right over. Brother Dong, aren’t you and Sister-in-law getting married on the third? How do you still have time to come deal with scum like them?”

”She’s Er Gouzi’s older sister, which makes her my cousin. She’s been starved to this point. How could we not come?”

Li Bing and his crew, along with the other onlookers, all craned their necks to get a look. They were shocked when they saw Zhao Damei’s condition. The people outside who couldn’t squeeze in anxiously questioned those in the front.

”How starved does she look?”

”Hey, you in the front, tell us!”

Li Bing knew that plenty of people in the village were going hungry, and maybe some were even in as bad a shape as Zhao Damei. But this was no time to admit that. Instead, he put on a look of pure rage and shock and cursed.

”They’re absolute animals! How could they starve our sister like that!”

”That’s right! Li Heihu, you people are monsters!”

Led by their example, the crowd immediately turned on the Li Heihu family, burying them in a torrent of verbal abuse. Lying on the ground, the Li Family was so frustrated they could have cried but had no tears left. They were the ones getting beaten, after all!

”Fuck, we got here too late!”

Cursing wasn’t enough to vent his anger. Li Bing charged over to Li Heihu and laid into him with a few more kicks. Seeing this, the other young men from Li Village rushed to follow his lead, delivering another round of punishment to the Li family members scattered across the ground. Eager to perform for Brother Dong, each of them put their full strength into it, all thoughts of village solidarity and family ties forgotten. ’If you piss off Brother Dong, you get what’s coming to you.’ They beat them until they were no longer even able to cry out.
