Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Strengthening Bitter Grass, Entanglement Ability

Ren Yuanyang immediately grabbed for the Round Duckweed floating in front of him, roaring inwardly, ’Enhance! Enhance all of their buoyancy!’

[Based on calculations, the Host’s Mental Energy can only enhance 3.14 square meters of Round Duckweed. Forcibly enhancing all of the Round Duckweed before you will cause you to fall unconscious.]

Ren Yuanyang paused for a moment, then frowned slightly. ”Enhancing consumes my Mental Energy?”

[Yes.]

”Then how do I recover my Mental Energy?”

[You can recover Mental Energy through rest, consuming high-grade ingredients, meditation, Cultivation...]

Ren Yuanyang was taken aback again. ”There’s Cultivation in this world?”

The system responded with silence.

Not getting an answer, Ren Yuanyang stopped dwelling on the question and directly enhanced the Round Duckweed up to the limit.

He instantly felt as if his body had been drained empty.

’Is this what it feels like when my Mental Energy is almost depleted?’

[Enhancement complete...]

Although Ren Yuanyang felt like he was in a daze, he still didn’t dare to climb directly onto the Duckweed platform to rest.

Even though these Round Duckweed would never sink, they could be scattered by the waves!

If they scattered, his hope of lying down to rest on them would be completely dashed.

He didn’t know if he would be able to find more Duckweed in the future. This was his foundation, and he couldn’t afford to lose a single one.

To prevent them from scattering, Ren Yuanyang had no choice but to dive underwater and tie the roots of the Round Duckweed together.

It seemed that due to the system’s enhancement, the roots of these Round Duckweed had also become long and tough.

With these unsinkable Round Duckweed as handholds, Ren Yuanyang just needed to hold his breath and tie the knots!

The Round Duckweed were connected, forming a circle with a radius of about one meter.

After finishing all this, Ren Yuanyang struggled to climb onto the Duckweed platform.

He also scooped up the unenhanced Round Duckweed and placed them on top of the already enhanced ones.

Once his Mental Energy recovered, he could continue to enhance these Round Duckweed and expand his usable area.

Ren Yuanyang lay spread-eagled on the Round Duckweed. The heavy rain continued, and the Duckweed platform rose and fell with the waves, but at this moment, Ren Yuanyang could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

RUMBLE~

Ren Yuanyang’s stomach protested again.

He looked at the curtain of rain with a wry smile. ’On this boundless sea, where am I supposed to find food?’

’It’s true that the ocean is full of resources, but you at least need the right tools to get any seafood!’

’Besides, this probably isn’t even the ocean. According to my memories, this is submerged land. It’s not even certain if any sea creatures have made it this far!’

Just then, the system prompt sounded again.

[Bitter grass detected, a monocotyledon... Enhance?]

Hearing the prompt, Ren Yuanyang was stunned. He looked at his empty hands and asked in confusion, ”But I’m not touching any bitter grass?”

[Enhanced plants can act as an extension of your limbs. Limited by the strength of your Mental Energy, a prompt will only appear when another plant touches an enhanced plant while you are also in contact with that enhanced plant.]

”I see!” Ren Yuanyang realized, then frowned and asked, ”Can I enhance it now?”

[Based on calculations, the Host’s Mental Energy is insufficient to enhance the bitter grass. It is recommended to rest for one hour before attempting to enhance it!]

Ren Yuanyang rolled his eyes. ”If I can’t enhance it, why give me a prompt?”

[If system prompts are not needed, they can be turned off. Turn off system prompts?]

”No, leave them on!” Ren Yuanyang immediately rejected the system’s suggestion.

Right now, only the system could offer him any comfort. If even the system prompts were gone, he really wouldn’t know what to do.

Following the system’s instructions, Ren Yuanyang found a stalk of bitter grass with a runner hanging from the roots of the Round Duckweed.

”So it’s just a waterweed!” Ren Yuanyang looked at the bitter grass in his hand and thought, ’Can I just eat this to fill my stomach?’

At that thought, the rumbling in his stomach grew louder, as if urging Ren Yuanyang to eat the bitter grass.

But he held back and instead asked, ”System, what special effects will this have after it’s enhanced?”

[Enhancement directions: Entangling ability, growth speed...]

Seeing ”entangling ability,” Ren Yuanyang’s eyes lit up. ”Can this entangling ability wrap around fish underwater?”

[If the fish have not evolved, fish of average size should be no problem!]

”This is a godsend!” Ren Yuanyang grew excited.

He immediately lay down, opened his mouth to catch the falling rainwater, and prepared to fill his belly with water first.

His grandmother used to say, if you lie down and don’t move, you won’t feel hungry even without food or water!

As long as a person lies down, their hunger should lessen!

Ren Yuanyang felt his grandmother must have been lying to him. He was lying down now, but his stomach was still incredibly hungry.

Just as Ren Yuanyang was getting dizzy and blurry-eyed from hunger, an hour finally passed!

The very first thing he did was enhance the bitter grass!

[Enhancement successful!]

[Bitter grass (+1): Its runner possesses an entangling ability, capable of capturing all approaching objects and creatures...]

Seeing this prompt, Ren Yuanyang immediately began to pray in his heart.

’I hope it can catch some fish!’

The enhanced bitter grass grew much larger, and its runner was now ten meters long.

The runner drifted through the water, entangling and pulling back anything it encountered.

[The bitter grass has entangled an object. Pull back?]

Ren Yuanyang was slightly taken aback. He hadn’t expected to get something so quickly. He immediately replied, ”Pull it back!”

’Whatever it is, I’ll pull it back first and see.’

SPLASH!

The runner of the bitter grass, wrapped around an object, floated to the surface.

The object was quite large: a long, black bag.

’I hope there’s food inside!’

Food was the only thing on Ren Yuanyang’s mind now. He reached out, grabbed the bitter grass’s runner, and pulled the black bag onto the Duckweed platform.

After Ren Yuanyang grabbed the black bag, the runner wrapped around it actually loosened on its own.

With no time to marvel at the intelligence of the enhanced plant, Ren Yuanyang hurriedly opened the bag to check.

There was no food inside, but rather a one-person tent.

Ren Yuanyang fell back limply. Although a tent was also useful to him, right now he had no strength to set it up. He needed food to replenish his Energy!

Another long wait followed. Ren Yuanyang was already starting to show symptoms of hypoglycemia: his face was pale, he was breaking out in a cold sweat, and his whole body was trembling!

Just then, the bitter grass entangled another object and pulled it back.

When Ren Yuanyang saw the object, his eyes practically glowed!

The bitter grass’s runner had brought back a pack of red date yogurt drinks—a full ten cups!

His hands were shaking violently. He struggled to break off a cup and took more than ten seconds to tear open the lid, pouring the yogurt and rainwater into his mouth.

Whether the yogurt was expired or not was the last thing on Ren Yuanyang’s mind!

As the yogurt entered his stomach, the emptiness finally began to subside!

After downing three cups in a row, Ren Yuanyang felt like he had finally come back to life!

He decided to save the remaining seven cups for now.

He didn’t know if the bitter grass would be able to catch more food, so he had to conserve what he had.
