From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey

Su Li had just left the factory and was on her way to the city, but after just a few minutes, she glanced out the window and saw a familiar face.

At first, it didn’t register. When it did, she immediately called for the car to stop.

”Sir, could you please pull over?”

The driver quickly pulled over to the side of the road. Su Li got out and looked back, finally certain.

It really was someone she knew.

”Grandma Li!” Su Li broke into a run, heading back the way they came.

Yes, it was Grandma Li that Su Li had run into.

Back when Su Li left the Tang Family to live on her own in Fengcheng County and study for her exams, she had rented a room from Grandma Li.

Grandma Li had taken great care of her, and even gave her a gift when she got into university.

Grandma Li lived alone. For the past two years, Li Hongqin and the others would visit her whenever they had time. Su Li had heard she was doing well, so she didn’t expect to run into her in such a bad state.

”Grandma Li, are you alright?”

Su Li rushed to help up Grandma Li, who was half-kneeling on the ground.

Grandma Li was getting on in years, and her eyesight was terrible. At first, she didn’t recognize Su Li.

She just thought the voice sounded familiar and quickly replied.

”I’m fine. I just took a tumble and haven’t quite caught my breath. I’ll be fine in a moment.”

Her bad eyesight had caused her to fall, but luckily, it wasn’t a serious one.

But an old woman was an old woman. With her frail body, she couldn’t get up right away.

Grandma Li thought she was fine, but Su Li was very worried. Together with the driver who had hurried over, she helped Grandma Li into the car.

”Grandma Li, we should still go to the hospital to get you checked out. It’s me, Su Li! Do you remember? I used to rent your house, and you even cooked for me during my college entrance exams.”

”There’s no need to go to the hospital. Why waste the money...” After she spoke, she suddenly realized.

”Su Li? You’re Su Li? The university student! I remember! Of course, I remember having a university student live in my house.”

Grandma Li squinted, trying to get a better look at Su Li. After a few more sentences, the driver had already pulled up to the county hospital.

Su Li helped Grandma Li see a doctor and only relaxed after being told it was nothing serious.

The fall itself wasn’t a problem, but Grandma Li was old. Su Li asked the doctor to prescribe some health supplements suitable for the elderly.

Su Li paid for the medicine. Just as she and the driver were helping Grandma Li leave the hospital, they heard a commotion mixed with screams from nearby.

”Someone’s been murdered!”

”AHH!”

”I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! You looked down on me, you bitch! I’m going to die anyway, so taking you with me is worth it!”

The crazed, furious voice was followed by even louder screams.

Su Li made a split-second decision. ”Quick, help Grandma Li into the car.”

’We can’t let her get knocked over in the chaos.’

The car was parked right at the entrance. Su Li quickly helped Grandma Li get in, then turned and grabbed a young man who was running out from inside.

”What’s going on in there?” she asked.

”There’s been a murder! A guy stabbed a doctor!” The young man’s heart was still pounding with fear.

”A doctor? He really killed someone?” Su Li pressed.

”Yeah, there was blood all over the floor. You have no idea how scary it was!” The young man clutched his chest. ”It’s terrifying! I gotta get out of here!”

Su Li didn’t ask any more questions. Without a moment’s hesitation, she deftly reached for her bag on the back seat.

”Sir, please wait here with Grandma Li. I’m going inside to take a look.”

After telling the driver, Su Li shut the car door and ran inside, camera bag in tow.

She had come here this time with an interview assignment. Although she wasn’t accompanied by a cameraman, she had been allowed to bring the camera bag.

Normally, an intern wouldn’t have this privilege, but Su Li was already skilled, so an exception was made.

The camera was old, but it would do.

Su Li ran deeper into the hospital, carrying the camera bag.

In just a few moments, the previously quiet hospital had descended into total chaos.

Doctors and nurses in yellowed white coats scurried about, patients ran everywhere, and noise was all around.

Su Li ran quickly toward the center of the commotion.

Unlike those who were scared or just excited by the spectacle, Su Li felt a terrifying combination of excitement and calm.

This was something she had trained for; it was a conditioned reflex.

She wasn’t running toward the commotion to be a gawker. It was a reflex honed during her previous apprenticeships and internships.

Upon hearing about something like this, her first instinct was to record it and find out what was happening.

Her steps hurried, Su Li deftly dodged the people in her way and soon saw the scene of the crime.

A woman in a white coat lay in a pool of blood, with several doctors standing by her side.

”Stop the bleeding!”

And to the side, a man holding a dagger was laughing maniacally.

The dagger was still stained with blood. He waved it as he laughed, his face a mask of insanity, yet his laughter was tinged with utter despair.

”What’s the point of stopping the bleeding? She deserves to die!”

The man with the dagger looked to be somewhere in his late twenties or thirties; it was hard to tell. He was frighteningly thin, his eyes were bloodshot, and he was screaming. No one dared approach him because of the knife.

Amidst the chaos, the doctors in their white coats began emergency treatment, paying no mind to the man.

The man pointed at the growing crowd of doctors and nurses, screaming curses at them.

”You’re all so eager to save this disgusting woman, so why couldn’t you save me?!”

”You said I have a terminal illness, that I won’t live more than three months! I want to live!”

”You said I was a lost cause! Fine, I accepted it! But I was just here to pick up some medicine, and I still had to endure her attitude! I’m already dying, so why should I be looked down on? Why do I have to put up with that?!”

”Do you know how I feel? Do you have any idea how much pain I’m in?”

”You’re all in your white coats, you’re doctors and nurses, you’re the experts! Aren’t you supposed to treat us poor, sick people well? Why did you treat me like that?!”

”She looked down on me, rolled her eyes at me, called me a country bumpkin and told me to get lost! She even said I couldn’t understand what she was saying!”

”I’m about to die! Why do I have to suffer this indignity? Why?!”

The man was from Fengcheng County. He was shouting wildly in a local dialect, his voice garbled with uncontrollable emotion, but everyone present was also from Fengcheng County and understood him clearly.

The cause of the incident was now more or less clear.

Su Li, who had pushed her way to the front of the crowd, had already turned on her camera and was recording everything.

Listening to the man’s words and looking at the white-coated figure on the ground, the first phrase that popped into her head was ’doctor-patient conflict.’

In the future, this sort of thing would become commonplace. Both sides had their own hardships. In any case, having been a patient in her previous life, Su Li understood the patient’s perspective all too well.

When you go to the hospital, you’re already not well. When your body is in discomfort, your mind becomes extremely fragile. You could say both mind and body are left vulnerable and sensitive.

And if you were diagnosed with a terminal illness, it was like your whole world had collapsed.

At a time like that, if a doctor, nurse, or staff member had a bad attitude, the resulting sense of grievance and anger was easy to imagine.

Consumed by despair and rage, people could do impulsive things, just like the incident before her—stabbing a nurse...

”The stretcher’s here!”

Following the shout, a stretcher arrived, and several doctors quickly worked together to lift the person onto it.

”Make way, make way!”

The stretcher was wheeled past Su Li, and she finally got a clear look at the stabbed nurse’s face.

It was a face that was somewhat strange, yet familiar.

Aunt Qin... It was Qin Shanshan’s aunt!
