From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey

Little Tang Mo looked at Brother Glasses, nodded, and smiled.

”I’m fine. We’re fine. Thank you, Brother.”

Seeing Little Tang Mo’s smiling face, Brother Glasses breathed a sigh of relief. He helped Little Tang Mo, Little Tongtong, and Little Yang Mei to their feet and checked them over one by one.

”You’re not hurt anywhere, are you?”

He examined them carefully, not minding the dirt or the smell clinging to them.

Little Tang Mo shook his head and then asked Little Tongtong and Little Yang Mei.

Once he confirmed none of them were injured, Brother Glasses, who had just helped them up, promptly collapsed onto the ground himself.

”As long as you’re okay, that’s all that matters.”

He clutched his chest, feeling his heart still pounding. ”That’s the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

Little Tang Mo gave an embarrassed smile.

”I’m just glad it worked out. I would have blamed myself forever otherwise.”

Brother Glasses looked at Little Tang Mo and let out another breath.

Little Tang Mo glanced at the male driver and the bald woman, who had already been handcuffed, then reached out and tugged on Brother Glasses’s hand.

”Thank you, Brother. You’re the best!”

As he spoke, Little Tang Mo habitually patted Brother Glasses on the head.

The kind-hearted Brother Glasses: ”...”

’For some reason, I feel like I’m being comforted and praised by a kid younger than me. But it feels really good, so what can you do?’

’Could it be that Mom was right? Am I really never going to grow up?’

Despite his thoughts, Brother Glasses broke into a wide smile.

The story of their encounter had actually begun a few minutes earlier.

While Little Yang Mei was pleading with the old woman for help, Tang Mo seized the moment when the male driver was distracted. He stuffed the distress note he’d already prepared into the hand of Brother Glasses, who was just passing by.

Spring was approaching and the weather was turning warmer, but it was still cold enough that Tang Mo and the others were wearing thick clothes.

Because of their thick clothes, the small, homemade notebook and pen from Su Li, which Tang Mo always wore around his neck, were concealed underneath.

Tang Mo had once said the little notebook was very convenient, and he had indeed gotten into the habit of always carrying it. The traffickers had only searched him casually and hadn’t paid it any special attention.

Tang Mo had written the distress note long ago in the vehicle, but unfortunately, he never had a chance to get it to anyone—not until today.

With everyone’s attention on Little Yang Mei, he immediately seized his chance. He decisively passed the note to Brother Glasses, who looked like someone who could not only read but also wouldn’t stand idly by.

Brother Glasses was puzzled at first but opened the note anyway. He was shocked to see the plea for help written on it.

Tang Mo had explained the situation in the fewest words possible.

”Help: We’ve been kidnapped by human traffickers. Please help us and call the nearest police station. The traffickers have knives and are very dangerous. Please, don’t do anything reckless. You must find the police and explain the situation to them.”

It took Brother Glasses only a few seconds to read the note. His expression changed drastically, a mixture of shock and fear.

He looked toward Little Tang Mo, but the boy wasn’t looking his way at all.

Meanwhile, Little Yang Mei’s pleas were coming to an end, with no one believing her. And it was at that moment that Tang Mo suddenly rushed out.

Brother Glasses was extremely curious to see what Tang Mo was planning, but his intuition told him not to interfere.

He found the nearest police officers as quickly as he could, reported the situation, and told them the traffickers were armed with knives.

The police were skeptical, but they still rushed over immediately. Upon seeing the situation for themselves, they moved swiftly to subdue the culprits.

This was Tang Mo’s perfect escape plan, with each step linked seamlessly to the next.

In this era, people hadn’t yet been jaded by countless scams and were still enthusiastic about helping others; society wasn’t as cold and indifferent as it would become in the future.

But human traffickers were no amateurs, which was why the escape methods Su Li had taught Tang Mo weren’t limited to the type of direct plea Little Yang Mei had used.

Su Li had also taught Tang Mo more modern, indirect methods for signaling for help.

In modern times, when a kidnapper or other criminal tries to make a victim’s pleas for help sound like ridiculous nonsense, the person in danger might resort to grabbing a bystander’s cell phone and smashing it to guarantee they get attention.

In this era, there were no portable electronics like cell phones or computers, but valuable items still existed.

Tang Mo used this very method, finding a way to damage a car—an especially valuable item for the time. From the groundwork he laid to his final actions, every step was interlinked, culminating in their successful escape.

Brother Glasses was still in the dark about the specifics of the plan, and the surrounding crowd of onlookers was just as confused, not really understanding what had transpired.

The old woman Little Yang Mei had pleaded with earlier watched the scene unfold and dazedly thought, ’So, what that little girl said was all true?’

With this thought, the old woman began to look for Little Yang Mei.

It didn’t take her long to spot Little Yang Mei. Just as she was about to call out, she saw Tang Mo leading Little Tongtong and Little Yang Mei toward the police.

Three police officers had arrived initially. One had pursued the bald woman, and another had handled the male driver.

Both traffickers had knives, and this was a public place. Coupled with the report of human trafficking, the officers weren’t stupid; they knew this was no simple case.

The officers handcuffed the two suspects. As two of the officers began escorting them away, the squad leader was just about to look for the man with glasses who’d made the report when he saw him approaching.

The man with the glasses wasn’t alone. Little Tang Mo, Little Tongtong, and Little Yang Mei were with him.

The squad leader’s gaze fell first on Little Tang Mo. According to the one who reported it, a little boy had passed him a note asking for help. ’So this is the boy?’

’He’s so young...’

Before the squad leader’s suspicion could fully form in his eyes, Tang Mo raised his head and met his gaze.

The cool, collected gaze, completely incongruous with his age, momentarily stunned the squad leader. For a second, he didn’t know how to describe it.

But suddenly, most of his doubts vanished.

This child—taking small but firm steps, knowing enough to shield the two little girls—was covered in filth, his face just as dirty as his clothes. But despite his tender age, he already carried a certain presence. Moreover, those eyes of his... they were not to be underestimated.

While the squad leader’s mind was wandering, Tang Mo had already come to a stop in front of him.

”Officer, I want to file a report. Are you from the municipal bureau?”

The squad leader was momentarily stunned. ”Huh?”

Tang Mo glanced at the gawking crowd and didn’t say any more. ”Let’s go. Where is the patrol car?”

The squad leader: ”Ah?”

Baffled, he inexplicably found himself leading the way to catch up with the officers escorting the two criminals up ahead.

After taking a few steps, he realized what he was doing and shot a questioning look at the man with the glasses.

Brother Glasses’s expression made it clear he was just as dumbfounded and had no idea what was happening.

The officer took another two steps, then looked back at Tang Mo holding Little Yang Mei and Little Tongtong by the hand. The two girls followed him closely, their trust in him absolute.

”Are you... all right? You’re not hurt, are you?”

He couldn’t help but ask. The words had barely left his mouth when he heard an enraged shout.

”You little brat! This was all you, wasn’t it? I’ll kill you!”

It was the male driver. They had reached the car, and just as he was about to be shoved inside, he spotted Tang Mo.

When the male driver saw Tang Mo, his eyes burned with hatred, like an old enemy seeing their most bitter foe.
