From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey

For the National Day celebration, Su Li and her classmates had two days off from school.

A moment like this in the Imperial City was especially thrilling.

The school’s journalism club promptly had everyone follow up with articles, with the best to be published in the school paper.

Su Li had already recovered her energy after resting. The wound on her hand, having been treated and disinfected, was slowly healing and had started to itch.

Forgetting about the bookstore, Su Li spent two days running around with her classmates.

During those two days, Su Li kept finding things left at her door.

A bag of fruit, a meal, a small potted flower.

Su Li’s mood had gradually stabilized, and seeing these gifts, she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

When classes resumed, Su Li used her spare time to once again search for a contractor and bookshelves.

She ran around for a whole day without finding anything satisfactory and nearly got heatstroke.

This year was unusually hot. Even in October, the temperature and sun felt the same as before, if not even more muggy.

”I wonder when it’ll finally rain. This Indian summer is brutal.”

The next day at school, her classmates were also discussing it.

”It’ll probably stay hot for a couple more days,” Su Li said, a hint of worry on her face.

It was Friday again. Time flew by in the blink of an eye.

She was worried because the weekend had arrived once more.

According to her original plan, Su Li had wanted to open the bookstore in early October, but things were delayed because of Mrs. Tang.

And now she was still looking for a contractor.

There was no more time to waste. Tomorrow was the weekend, and regardless of the heat, she had to get it done.

Besides this, there was Little Tang Mo.

With Mrs. Tang making such a scene—threatening to hang herself and then disappearing—Little Tang Mo must have been terrified. Su Li had been constantly worried about him.

’Little Tang Mo is so smart and sensitive, he must have cried his eyes out this time.’ If Su Li hadn’t been so preoccupied with her own problems and the special circumstances, she would have gone to pick him up long ago.

She hoped to see Little Tang Mo this weekend to make sure he was okay, but at the same time, she was afraid to see him.

Because if Little Tang Mo came, Tang Yuanxiao would probably come too.

After all the twists and turns, the outcome was still the same.

’What a cruel twist of fate...’

After class, Su Li went home and saw a bag at her door, not surprised in the slightest.

This time, it wasn’t food or flowers, but a sun hat.

Along with the hat was a note.

On it was an address, with ”bookshelves” written after it.

Below that was a name, followed by the note: ”Contractor. Go open the door tomorrow morning at 7:30.”

Wu Sheng’s handwriting was as flamboyant as ever, but there wasn’t a single hint of a joke.

Su Li looked at the note and silently mouthed ”thank you.”

She had told Wu Sheng not to come looking for her, and he had listened. But in the end, he couldn’t stop worrying about Su Li, nor could he truly leave her to fend for herself.

He had no other choice but to care for her in his own way.

He didn’t appear before her, but whenever he had time, he would secretly come to check on her.

He didn’t want a situation where Su Li could get sick and he wouldn’t even know.

While Su Li was busy with the bookstore, Wu Sheng had used his days off, spending two days running around to find these things for her.

He just hoped Su Li could rest for a couple of days and not have to run around so much.

The next day, Su Li got up early and went to the bookstore at the time written on the note. At 7:30, the contractor arrived right on time.

”You must be Boss Su Li, right?” the contractor asked when he saw her.

Su Li nodded. The contractor glanced at the storefront and nodded. ”Just as your brother said. Why don’t you tell me your renovation requirements.”

The ”brother” he mentioned was Wu Sheng, who had posed as Su Li’s brother to help her.

After Su Li explained her requirements, the contractor nodded. ”Mhm, the price will be what I agreed on with your brother. Once the renovation is done to your satisfaction, you can pay...”

The price Wu Sheng had negotiated was very reasonable, lower than the quotes Su Li had gotten herself.

”Okay,” Su Li nodded.

”My crew will start working in a bit. It’s going to be dusty everywhere, so a young lady like you doesn’t need to stay and watch. You should head home for now.” The contractor was older and seemed very reliable.

Su Li left amidst his remark of ”That brother of yours is a pretty good guy.”

She left the shop. It was just past eight, and the sun wasn’t too strong yet, so she went directly to the address on the note.

It was a second-hand market, but many of the items inside were brand new, or at least eighty or ninety percent new. The quality and prices were both good.

Better than anything she had seen before.

Su Li took a deep breath, suppressing the complicated feelings in her heart. She placed a deposit with the owner and arranged for the items to be delivered in a few days.

Next, Su Li went to find an agent to contact book suppliers, setting a time and place for the book delivery.

Tasks she wasn’t sure she could finish in two days were all completed in a single morning.

She was hungry after running all those errands, so Su Li swung by the school for lunch before heading home under the blazing sun.

But when she reached the entrance to her residential complex, the elderly security guard called out to her.

”Miss, are you Su Li from Unit 1, sixth floor?”

Su Li nodded. ”I am.”

The old man nodded. ”Someone came looking for you just now. Seeing you weren’t here, he left a message for you. Said something about Little Mo being sick and asking you to go back.”

Su Li’s expression changed the moment she heard this. ”What?”

She had never expected to receive news that Little Tang Mo was sick.

”Is it serious?” Su Li asked anxiously, grabbing the old man’s arm.

The old man shook his head. ”I don’t know. The person who left the message only said that one sentence.”

Su Li took two deep breaths to calm down. ”Sorry, I got ahead of myself.”

She turned, about to rush off to see Little Tang Mo, but stopped after taking two steps.

’No, I can’t go like this. I can leave other things, but I have to take money.’

’It must not be a minor illness, or they wouldn’t have come for me.’

’I can’t be hasty.’ Su Li ran home and took a few deep breaths to compose herself.

Little Tang Mo had always been very healthy. Aside from a couple of minor colds, he had basically never been sick.

So when she suddenly heard he was ill, she panicked.

Su Li calmed down and quickly gathered her things, mainly taking all the cash she had on hand before setting out again.

Her expression was much calmer, but her hurried steps and the unconcealed anxiety on her face told a different story.

Wu Sheng, who had quietly gone to check on the renovation progress, had only intended to pass by Su Li’s place and take a look from the complex entrance. He didn’t expect to witness this exact scene.

Something was wrong with Su Li’s emotional state. Wu Sheng hesitated for a moment, but ultimately, feeling uneasy, he discreetly followed her.

’If nothing’s wrong, I won’t show myself. But if something is, it’s better that I’m here.’

Su Li, unaware that Wu Sheng was following, hurried to the station to catch a bus.

After boarding the bus, Su Li stared anxiously out the window, not noticing that Wu Sheng had gotten on as well.

The bus route required a transfer in the county town. Anxious, Su Li accidentally stepped on someone’s foot while getting off the bus there.

”I’m so sorry...” Su Li apologized hastily.

The man with a full beard was about to curse, but when he looked up and saw Su Li’s face, his pupils contracted sharply, and the curse died on his lips.

”It’s nothing...” he replied, his eyes locked on Su Li’s face.

’I’m not mistaken... It’s her! The Su Li who ruined my business!’

’Wasn’t she in that remote county town? I haven’t even had the chance to go get my revenge... How did I run into her here?’

The bearded man quickly scanned Su Li, his eyes filled with surprise.

His eyes narrowed dangerously. Just as he was about to step forward and grab Su Li’s arm, a man who gave off a dangerous vibe pulled her behind him protectively and asked.

”What’s wrong?”

The bearded man’s eyes twitched, and he put on a simple, honest smile. ”Nothing.”

He walked away as he spoke, but after a few steps, he looked back at Su Li and Wu Sheng’s retreating figures, his brow tightly furrowed.

’How did she end up with a guy like that... He seems like a tough customer, too....’

’This is going to be a bit troublesome.’
