The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 660: Chapter 660: Top Credit

He had no time to look back; he could only throw himself forward in a desperate dive.

The few men at his side reacted at that moment, shouting urgently, ”Protect our lord!”

One of them, the closest to Tuoba Yu, moved directly behind him to shield him!

SHUNK—!

The sharp arrow pierced straight through his chest!

The force behind the arrow was shockingly powerful. It didn’t stop, even after piercing through the man. Exiting his back, it carried his body backward with it, the arrowhead scraping across Tuoba Yu’s spine!

A sharp pain shot through him. Tuoba Yu’s face paled. He gritted his teeth, turned, and pushed away the attendant who had collapsed on top of him.

”My lord! You’re injured!”

The others panicked when they saw the bloody wound on his back.

”H-how can this arrow be so terrifyingly powerful?”

It passed through one person and still managed to wound Tuoba Yu!

”It’s just a flesh wound. Nothing serious,” Tuoba Yu said, turning to look in the direction the arrow had come from.

He had seen countless experts, but very few could achieve something like this!

Could it be—

”Has Feng Zhang really come in person?!”

He muttered, shocked and uncertain.

The others sensed it too and turned to look.

The night was thick, and flames leaped into the air.

Amidst a chaotic mix of screams, tears, and blood, a young man sat high on his horse. His back was ramrod straight, his features sharp and heroic.

In his left hand, he held a longbow. His right hand was pulling a second arrow from the quiver on his back.

Across the crowd, he looked straight in their direction.

As their eyes met,

a mocking smile suddenly curled his lips, as if he had been waiting for them for a long time.

It felt as if the blood had frozen in Tuoba Yu’s veins. His mind went blank.

”That’s not Feng Zhang!”

’I should be relieved.’ But for some reason, meeting the youth’s gaze only made him more uneasy.

It was a primal instinct—the will to survive that only awakens on the brink of death.

With no time to wonder about the youth’s identity, Tuoba Yu turned and fled!

He had a premonition. ’This youth is here for me!’

’If I fall into his hands today, I’m finished!’

Tuoba Yu ran faster than he ever had in his life, desperately weaving toward the thickest parts of the crowd.

He collided with many people, sending them sprawling and throwing the crowd into disarray.

The sky was dark, hampering visibility. Combined with the chaos of the scene, hitting a fleeing martial artist was a fool’s errand.

”A Feng!”

A soldier nearby turned back to watch. Unaware of the target’s identity, he assumed it was just an ordinary Southern Hu soldier and called out a word of caution,

”Be careful not to hit our own men! If you can’t get him, let him go. One man isn’t worth the risk!”

Ye Yunfeng drew his bow and nocked an arrow.

The bow was drawn to its limit, the string emitting a faint, taut hum.

Ye Yunfeng’s lips curled into a smile. ”I used to go hunting for wild rabbits with my big sister. Those little things would dart all over the snow, clever as can be. They were much harder to deal with than this.”

’This is nothing by comparison.’

The man froze, and before he could reply, he saw Ye Yunfeng release the string. The second arrow shot through the air!

His eyes instinctively followed its path.

The next moment, he was shocked to see the arrow weave through the crowd with incredible speed, catching up to the figure who had almost escaped to the city gate!

Tuoba Yu’s hand had just touched the ring-pull on the city gate.

However, just as he thought he was about to escape, that bone-chilling cold once again assaulted him from behind, completely enveloping him!

In the chaos of the battle, he had been separated from his attendants. This time, there was no one to shield him from the attack.

The hair on Tuoba Yu’s neck stood on end!

On pure instinct, he spun around and raised his sword in a desperate block!

CLANG—!

The arrow scraped past the tip of his sword with a piercing shriek but wasn’t stopped. With a final SHUNK, it plunged into Tuoba Yu’s chest!

Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth as he slowly sank to his knees.

He wanted to speak, to cry for help. His chest surged with fury and resentment!

But in the end, he couldn’t even utter a single word before he passed out.

THUD!

Ye Yunfeng rode his horse over and stopped in front of Tuoba Yu.

”This fragile?”

He was a little surprised. He looked the man over for a moment and clicked his tongue. ’Tsk.’

Before setting out, King Yan Nan had specifically instructed him that the one now in control of all of Long City was a man named Tuoba Yu.

The outcome of tonight’s battle was inextricably linked to this man.

King Yan Nan had even drawn a portrait of him and instructed Ye Yunfeng earnestly,

”Dead is fine, but capturing him alive is better!”

Ye Yunfeng rubbed his chin, muttering to himself, ’Of course, capturing him alive is more valuable...’

’Tuoba,’ he mused, ’is the surname of the Nanhu Royal Family.’

He jumped off his horse, took out a rope, and tied up Tuoba Yu in a flash.

Seeing Ye Yunfeng pay so much attention to this Southern Hu man, the few people beside him couldn’t help but laugh.

”A Feng, you’re really thorough! You don’t let a single one get away!”

Ye Yunfeng laughed along.

”If it were anyone else, I couldn’t be bothered to put in so much effort. But this one is different.”

”Oh? How is he different?”

Ye Yunfeng lifted Tuoba Yu by the collar for everyone to see his face, then chuckled.

”The Southern Hu King’s own younger brother. You tell me, was he worth capturing?”

...

The news of Tuoba Yu’s capture quickly spread throughout the city.

When the Southern Hu soldiers who were still putting up a desperate resistance heard the news, it was as if their world had collapsed.

Their morale was already low, and now they were completely routed.

By the latter half of the night, the fighting throughout the city had all but ceased.

Ye Yunfeng and his men led their troops into the Prefectural Magistrate’s Mansion.

The Southern Hu forces were almost completely wiped out. The traitorous officials were all apprehended, stripped of their official robes, and hung from the city gate in nothing but their undergarments.

The neat row of them served as vengeance for the murdered Lord Prefect, and for the soldiers and citizens who had died in vain defending the city.

By the time the sky began to lighten, the signs of battle throughout the city had been mostly cleared away.

Ye Yunfeng looked up at the gradually rising sun on the horizon, his features relaxing into a smile.

A soldier beside him patted his shoulder and gave him a thumbs-up.

”A Feng, you earned the highest honors this time!”

None of them had expected that Ye Yunfeng would actually end the battle in just one night!

Ye Yunfeng just smiled nonchalantly. ”The credit belongs to everyone. The brothers on the front lines charged into battle, those in the rear built momentum, and let’s not forget the ones who first snuck into the city to fly the kites... We won this time because of all of us together!”

Seeing him refuse to take the credit, the man was taken aback for a moment. His expression grew more earnest.

”You’re right, everyone contributed this time! But—I think when King Yan Nan reports this, he will still write your name first! Without your overall command and strategy, how could we have won this battle so easily?”

”A Feng! You—and you alone—are worthy of the highest honor!”
