The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 387: Chapter 387: What a Pity to Be with Shen Yanchuan

SHHIIING—!

The air was torn apart, a sharp, piercing whistle assaulting the ears!

But Shen Yanchuan didn’t hesitate for a moment, for the old Wolf King had already leaped up, pouncing on Ye Jingyan once again!

He didn’t even turn his head, his deep, cold eyes reflecting only the gaunt, bony figure of the gray wolf!

Ye Yunfeng’s heart leaped into his throat. He started to move, about to rush forward!

But just then, as if he had seen something, he abruptly stopped.

In that moment’s pause, the poison-tipped arrow reached Shen Yanchuan’s back! The next instant, it would pierce his clothes and sink into his flesh!

The dull thud of an arrow piercing flesh and bone sounded, and the old Wolf King’s eyeball suddenly burst in a spray of blood!

Warm, coppery blood splattered down, staining Ye Jingyan’s face with crimson specks.

He had no time to worry about it, however, and quickly turned his head to look at Shen Yanchuan—

CRACK.

A crisp, faint snapping sound rang out, but it was drowned out by the THUD of the old Wolf King hitting the ground, making one almost think they’d imagined it.

However, it wasn’t an auditory hallucination.

Behind Shen Yanchuan, the arrow, gleaming with a faint blue light, had been cleanly snapped in two and fell limply to the ground.

Shen Yanchuan turned around and saw, by his feet, an extremely thin flying knife thrust diagonally into the ground, its chilling glint half-buried.

He raised an eyebrow ever so slightly, then followed the knife’s trajectory and looked up into the woods.

Ye Yunfeng could no longer contain his excitement and shouted, ”Big Sister!”

A slender, graceful figure walked out from among the scattered trees.

Elegant and gentle, calm and composed.

Who else could it be but Ye Chutang, who was supposed to be waiting back at the camp!?

Ye Jingyan also let out a long breath. There was no surprise in his eyes; clearly, just like Ye Yunfeng, he had long expected her arrival.

Ye Chutang’s gaze swept over the chaotic, bloody scene before her, finally settling on Ye Jingyan’s face.

”Are you hurt?”

Ye Jingyan shook his head. ”No, this is the Wolf King’s blood. I’ve made you worry, Big Sister.”

Ye Chutang walked over, passing by Shen Yanchuan without even a moment’s eye contact, and went straight to Ye Jingyan.

She took out a handkerchief and handed it to him. Ye Jingyan immediately took it and meticulously wiped the bloodstains from his face.

Ye Yunfeng was both surprised and overjoyed to see her. He rushed forward, taking two steps at a time.

”Big Sister! What are you doing here? Are you alone? Does anyone else know you came?”

Ye Chutang didn’t answer him right away. Instead, she turned to look at Shen Yanchuan.

”Thank you for your help, Princely Heir.”

The situation just now was truly critical. A Feng was too far away to help, and with the old Wolf King fighting to the death, Yan would have been injured even if he had managed to dodge.

Shen Yanchuan’s arrow was indeed timely.

Shen Yanchuan looked at her.

The young woman’s obsidian eyes were clear and bright, her tone calm and peaceful. She was as composed as if she were in her own backyard, without a hint of panic or tension.

If not for that flying knife, one would hardly believe that the steady, precise, and ruthless strike from moments ago had come from her hand.

On that night at the Shiluan City mine, he had known Ye Chutang was no ordinary woman, but her action just now still surprised him.

The corner of Shen Yanchuan’s mouth lifted slightly. ”It is I who should be thanking Second Miss Ye for saving my life.”

Ye Yunfeng, still shaken by the memory, muttered, ”That’s right, Big Sister! If you hadn’t arrived in time, that arrow aimed at the Princely Heir would have been dangerous! I saw it was tipped with poison!”

At this, he frowned, looked up, and scanned his surroundings.

He hadn’t seen clearly where that sneak-attack arrow had been shot from.

”Could it be those assassins? But weren’t they after the Third Prince? Why have they turned their murderous intent on the Princely Heir?”

Ye Chutang, long accustomed to such things, said, ”Isn’t it common for him to be hunted down?”

’Who knows how many people Shen Yanchuan has offended. It’d be stranger if no one was trying to get rid of him.’

Ye Yunfeng: ”...”

Ye Jingyan: ”...”

Shen Yanchuan was silent for a moment, then smiled.

’She really isn’t wrong.’

Shen Yanchuan turned and looked in a certain direction, his eyes growing cold.

”Aren’t you all going to come out?”

Ye Yunfeng’s heart skipped a beat. ’From the sound of it, there’s more than one!?’

After a brief, dead silence, a black figure leaped down from a tree.

The person wore tight-fitting black clothes and a mask, revealing only a pair of narrow, venomous eyes.

Immediately after, two more figures appeared silently to his left and right.

The leaves rustled.

Ye Jingyan turned his head and saw that three more had silently appeared behind them.

Six people.

There were actually six assassins lying in ambush here!

Cold sweat broke out on Ye Yunfeng’s back—he hadn’t sensed their presence at all!

’I consider myself extremely vigilant. Usually, I can quickly detect anyone approaching.’

But now... ’The strength of these people is likely unfathomable!’

The enemy had six experts, while their side had only four people—Lian Zhou had wanted to escort them back, but Shen Yanchuan had left him behind to lead the wolf pack back to the Beast Circle.

After all, who would have thought something like this would happen on the way back!

The whimpers of the old Wolf King on the ground grew faint. After a few twitches, it fell completely silent.

Shen Yanchuan’s arrow had directly pierced its eyeball and penetrated its head. It clearly wasn’t going to survive.

But the current situation had become even more dangerous than before!

The leader of the group looked grimly at Ye Chutang, his voice hoarse and his accent strange.

”I never expected that Second Miss Ye, the most famous beauty in the Capital City, would possess such impressive martial skills.”

Hearing him speak, a cold glint flashed in Shen Yanchuan’s eyes.

Ye Jingyan was also taken aback. He looked at Ye Chutang and asked in a low voice, ”Big Sister, from his accent, does he sound like... someone from Nanhu?”

Shen Yanchuan glanced sideways at him, looking thoughtful.

Nanhu was a neighboring country, and the two nations often fought over territory along the border, engaging in endless skirmishes and raids.

Their people were generally not tall, but they were sturdy and strong, with formidable combat prowess.

But these men were all masked. Normally, one wouldn’t be able to tell them apart from the people of the Central Plains.

Yet Ye Jingyan could actually recognize their accent...

Ye Chutang nodded, then sized up the man and offered a polite, yet detached, smile.

”Did you come all this way just to praise me to my face, sir?”

The man’s eyes were ice-cold and filled with malice.

”You court death!”

He shifted his gaze back to Shen Yanchuan.

Although Ye Chutang’s appearance was beyond their expectations, it would not affect their plan in any way.

Shen Yanchuan—must die today!

”A true peerless beauty, what a pity she’s with Shen Yanchuan.”

As soon as these words were spoken, the smile on Ye Chutang’s face froze for a moment, then reappeared on the corners of Shen Yanchuan’s lips.

However, before either of them could reply, the man had already drawn another arrow from his quiver.

”In that case, you can all accompany him on his journey to the afterlife!”
