Weakest Beast Tamer Gets All SSS Dragons

Chapter 1170: Chapter 1170 - Taming the Old World - Shatter

By some twisted stroke of cosmic luck, or perhaps absolute misfortune depending on who’s asked, Selthia hurled the overwhelming bulk of her army directly at Taro’s sector.

It was the exact same stretch of the Great Wall in Yino where four old friends had spent the previous evening eating, laughing, and toasting to Ren’s name until the early hours of the morning.

In the beginning, they actually held the line somewhat easily.

Having all four of them in the same place was a complete tactical anomaly. Three high-tier dual-contract Tamers and a heavily cultivated Gold-rank Wood support, all clustered in a single sector, created a localized concentration of firepower that absolutely no other perimeter in the sister cities possessed at that moment.

They also had felt the rotting tide coming long before the first mutant broke the tree line. It started as a sickening, heavy vibration deep in the bedrock, a massive subterranean wave of energetic putrefaction that made the air mana taste like copper and ash. That early warning bought them a handful of precious, life-saving dozens of seconds to sound the horns, wake the reserves, and lock the troops beasts into formation before the tidal wave of flesh crashed against the stone.

The initial impact wasn’t the problem... The four commanders met the charge and held the breach.

The real nightmare began when the frantic messenger birds started dropping from the sky.

Reports poured in from the rest of the Yino perimeter. The sectors left under the command of standard Vanguard officers, lacking the catastrophic output of dual-contract prodigies, were shattering.

The Great Wall was buckling in a dozen different places, tearing open at points they were simply too far away to reinforce right now.

The sad picture of their limited tactical board forced them into a corner.

They frantically debated splitting up to plug the bleeding holes across Yino while thier beast defended. But before they could even formulate a valid or useful plan, Taro’s sector, the fortress they had been holding together with their strongest fused beasts and raw mana output in their skills, finally began to collapse.

Because this was where the true condensed weight of the mutant swarm was pushing.

Looking down at the endless river of corruption in their retreat, the four friends finally understood Selthia’s terrifying resolve.

The corruption hadn’t swarmed Taro’s sector by accident. Selthia targeted this specific coordinate because it offered the absolute shortest, most direct geographical route to the royal castle in Yano. Everything else, the simultaneous breaches, the scattered attacks on the flanks, the collapsing outposts, was just noise. It was a massive, bloody distraction designed to stretch the Vanguard thin and force them to scatter their strongest pieces.

The main blow was aimed straight at Yino ex kingdom’s heart.

And despite fighting with everything they had, they were failing to stop it.

♢♢♢♢

The siege had opened with abrupt, suffocating violence.

The tree line simply exploded, vomiting a multi-tiered wave of mutants. There were more Gold and Platinum-rank horrors charging the wall than any of the commanders had seen in their entire lives combined. It was as if Selthia had taken the massive, hyper-scaled army she had spent months meticulously breeding to hunt Yino’s elemental dragons, and dumped the entire supply chain directly onto their doorstep.

Ren’s autonomous wooden towers, the heralded miracles of the Vanguard, were completely erased in this section.

They didn’t stand a chance. The massive defensive monoliths had been meticulously pushed to save the most possible mana to slaughter mindless Silvers and low-tier Golds. They were brilliant weapons engineered for yesterday’s enemy.

Against a tidal wave of bloated, rune-enhanced and now free to use elemental fire skills Platinums, the towers were nothing more than kindling. They fell one after another, their thick roots snapping under the crushing mass of the horde.

The sector was on the absolute brink of total collapse within the first five minutes.

But Ren’s friends were ready...

Three powerful fusions detonated simultaneously atop the parapets, unleashing a suffocating wave of high-Platinum density aura. The commanders’ beasts abandoned their physical bodies, leaving their vulnerable human tamers safely guarded in the rear, while two monstrous copies of each fusion materialized on the frontline to wage a desperate war.

Taro’s gargantuan assassin-beetle operated as an immovable tank. It met the crushing wave head-on, throwing its massive weight into the breach. The mutant claws scraped uselessly against its diamond-hard carapace while its multiple long hyper articulated legs turned the frontlines into a blender, creating two practically impenetrable walls of sheer kinetic destruction.

Min anchored the flanks. His fusion, a chaotic, volatile amalgamation of a troll amphibian and a water serpent, functioned as continuous artillery. He weaponized thermal shock, spitting roaring torrents of scalding water followed instantly by blinding, high-pressure steam explosions. The blasts physically pushed the mutant horde backward, aggressively denying them the ground they were bleeding to take.

And then there was Liu.

Fused with his hyena, Liu’s vampire had mutated into a spectral, blood-soaked flying Wendigo. To look at him was to feel a primal, biological dread, the exact, terrifying aura that made his own troops avoid making eye contact with him in the barracks. Now, that cursed presence was weaponized. He didn’t rely on brute force, he emitted a series of horrifying, destructive frequencies... His guttural howls bypassed physical armor entirely, vibrating the corrupted beasts until their internal organs ruptured from the inside out.

From the rear lines, Li played the unsung hero. He poured every ounce of his mana into his Gold-rank wood elemental Plant, desperately regenerating the wood side of the physical defenses. He wove thick webs of ironwood into the crumbling stone, patching the gaping holes the beasts tore open and throwing up dense, thorny barricades to buy his friends an extra inch of breathing room.

The mutants were fundamentally different now. They threw lances of compressed wind, spat boiling acid water, and breathed gouts of stolen fire.

Yet, even armed with elemental magic, the swarm could not beat the three fusions.

Standing in the back, sweating through his uniform as he channeled roots into the stone, Li realized the tragic truth of the battlefield.

The problem wasn’t that the four of them were weak...

In less than twenty minutes, their combined fusions had slaughtered six low-to-mid Platinum mutants, dozens of Golds, and hundreds of Silvers.

They didn’t lack raw output.

They didn’t lack the rate of fire.

Whenever they focused their terrifying synergy on a target, they absolutely annihilated whatever stood in front of them.

The problem was coverage... And time.

There were only four of them. The Great Wall was simply too wide, and the breaches in the neighboring sectors were cracking open vastly faster than four prodigies could patch them.

And a fusion did not last forever.

Half an hour after they had successfully stalled the vanguard and forced the corruption back, the toll began to exact its price. The fusions were reaching their absolute limit. The commanders’ auras flickered.

But the horde did not stop pushing.

It didn’t matter how many beasts they butchered. Thousands more poured out of the dark, fueled by the endless, indiscriminate cycle of cannibalization that had bred them. The surrounding sectors were completely giving way, threatening to encircle Taro’s position entirely.

They had barely managed to hold the line just long enough for the standard infantry to execute an organized retreat.

That was the new objective.

Winning was mathematically impossible. They just needed to survive long enough to ensure their people escaped the slaughter.

The private aerial squad assigned to their command post fiercely resisted the evacuation order. They flatly refused to abandon the Wall to help others while their commanders remained behind to die. But orders were orders... In the end, they forced the squad to evacuate the wounded, keeping only a single flying mount behind for the four of them.

Liu’s Wendigo lost the fusion, but the Vampire Bat exhausted and flickering but still lethally functional, worked in tandem with the lone flying beast to drag the commanders off the crumbling parapets.

Taro’s beast covered their retreat, burning the absolute last drop of its stamina to block the stairs. Min unleashed a final, blinding barrage of chaotic steam to blind the encroaching horde. Li drove his hands against the flagstones, throwing up a massive, towering thicket of interwoven wood to buy them five final seconds.

They fell back.

Behind them, the Yino perimeter finally shattered. Section after section of the Wall collapsed in a deafening roar of grinding stone. The rotting corruption poured freely through the massive gaps, flooding directly into the sovereign territory humanity had successfully protected for centuries.

It looked like the absolute end. It seemed certain that Yino would fall completely, that nothing stood between the endless tide of new mutant corruption and the empty streets leading straight to the royal castle.

And right at the exact moment the abyss opened its jaws, the sky above them fractured.

Reinforcements.

Zhao, Julius, and Selphira hit the front.

They brought with them every single elite asset the Vanguard had managed to scrape together in under thirty minutes, crashing directly into Yino’s broken frontline at the absolute last possible second.
