I Am Your Natural Enemy

The cow was handed over to the Scorching Sun Department, leaving the rest of the matters to Wen Yan.

After leaving the Scorching Sun Department, he took out his phone and made a call to Fuyu Mountain.

The person answering the phone was a junior from Fuyu Mountain. Wen Yan asked if the Fourth Great-uncle Master was present; he wanted to speak to him. Soon, the phone was handed to the Fourth Great-uncle Master.

”Hello, Wen Yan, up so early?”

”Hello, Fourth Great-uncle Master. I have something I want to ask you about.”

”Go ahead.”

”First, let me ask, how is Cai Heizi doing?”

”Still sleeping in the Zombie Cave, neither alive nor dead.”

”Has anyone used his phone?”

”No, his phone has been out of power for a long time, just stored away.”

”Oh, if you could, spare a moment to check on it and confirm.”

”What’s going on?”

”Last night, something happened. I feel it might have been Cai Heizi’s doing. It’s not a big deal, but I have something else I need to consult with you about.”

”Regarding what aspect?”

”It’s like this: Have you heard of the Command Token, Fourth Great-uncle Master?”

”Which type of Command Token are you referring to? As far as I know, each of the Three Mountains and Five Ridges has their own. Our Fuyu Mountain alone has mastery over seventeen types of Command Tokens that haven’t yet been lost, not to mention the new ones, totaling eighty-nine types.”

”...”

Wen Yan felt a bit toothache-inducing, as soon as the Fourth Great-uncle Master started talking. He felt like a complete illiterate.

”Mazu Empress’s Command Token.”

After mentioning this, Wen Yan’s mind turned, and he immediately added.

”Mazu Empress’s Command Token probably doesn’t have many varieties, right?

The Command Token I’m talking about should be made of wood and provides protection to the holder.

For example, it could offer resistance against curses or tracking, those sorts of effects.”

Fourth Great-uncle Master pondered for a moment and said.

”Mazu Empress’s Command Token indeed has more than one kind.

The one you’re referring to, I think there should only be one.

This wooden talisman should be made from a sacrificial altar over a hundred years old that was accidentally destroyed.

Indeed, there have been people driven by desire who tried to make such wooden talismans.

Unfortunately, those are either fake or useless.

For people heading out to sea in the Southeast, Mazu’s wooden talisman is a sacred object.

Sadly, as far as I know, the last emergence of a new wooden talisman was nearly a hundred years ago.

And that batch of wooden talismans was completely destroyed after their appearance.

A bit earlier, say three hundred years ago, there was an occurrence of wooden talismans.

We at Fuyu Mountain once had one, which was one of that batch from three hundred years ago.

Later, when a disciple was going to sea, your Grand Uncle Master gave him the wooden talisman.

If it’s casually carried about, it’s practically useless.

Back then, before your senior brother went to sea, it was after I opened the altar and paid respects to the Mazu Empress that the talisman was granted to your senior brother going to sea.

It supposedly ensured he wouldn’t encounter any unfortunate, confusing troubles during his voyage.

After several hundred years, the wooden talisman has probably been completely depleted.

Even if there were any left, without the altar procedure and the confirmation through worship, it would only be a minor artifact.”

”I understand. Thank you, Fourth Great-uncle Master, for your guidance.” Wen Yan confirmed with the Fourth Great-uncle Master and felt entirely assured.

”If you run into someone holding a wooden talisman who can actually make it effective.

Before you take any action, it’s best to personally visit the Temple of Mazu Empress, offer incense to the Lady, and verbally communicate.

You know, our relationship between Fuyu Mountain and the Divine Land Water Systems isn’t great.

In the Northern Water System, we’ve essentially offended everyone.

The Southern Water System, though we may not have offended them much, there’s little camaraderie.

Given our situation, if we also offend Mazu Empress, even if it’s a misunderstanding, it’s difficult to explain.

Remember, handle things in advance, say things in advance.

If it’s really not working out, then don’t get involved.”

Fourth Great-uncle Master spoke earnestly, urging Wen Yan to be cautious.

He knows Wen Yan wouldn’t ask such questions without reason.

Knowing Wen Yan well, he wouldn’t be asking such high-level questions unless he encountered something truly significant.

”Rest assured, Fourth Great-uncle Master, I never do things that offend people.” Wen Yan quickly assured him.

He understood the implications in the Fourth Great-uncle Master’s words.

If it were someone else, they might resolve things afterward or even avoid addressing it, possibly with no consequences.

Unfortunately, people from Fuyu Mountain have a history of offending major figures in the water systems.

Even among those powerful figures we haven’t offended, the impression of Fuyu Mountain likely isn’t favorable by now.

Under such circumstances, another misunderstanding may be inexplicable.

”Were you involved with the incident the night before last?”

”What incident on the night before last?”

”On the 30th, there was ominous energy in the air. Though I couldn’t see it, I could feel it. With such a major occurrence, many people surely sensed it.”

”I was merely observing, and it wasn’t significantly related to me.”

”That’s good. How’s your mastering of the Hand Print going?”

”I’m not learning quickly, but I’ve trained into the Heavenly Gang Eight Trigrams Steps.”

”Alright, I’ll give you a few more books later; you can read and learn slowly.”

After exchanging pleasantries with the Fourth Great-uncle Master and sending regards to the Grand Uncle Master and other elders, Wen Yan hung up the phone.

Well then, for now, regardless of the situation, a visit to the Temple of Mazu Empress is necessary.

Whether to intervene or not, it’s always right to make an entrance.

Zhang Xuewen, that guy, has already run away. His wife made a call asking when he will return; he hurriedly bought a ticket and left, without even saying a word to Wen Yan inside.
