I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 301: Chapter 137 Meng Paopao, Crouching Tiger Mountain (5k)_2

That guy has even more unique treasures in his hands now than before.

At least two or three more!

It’s the only way we can move around so naturally, just like we’re going back home.

There’s no risk of getting lost at all, we don’t even feel anything weird.”

”Then why are you running so fast?” Camel looked a little shocked. Has this shady dealer finally changed his ways?

”You don’t get it. I feel like if I keep talking, keep thinking about it, the Mountain Lord will somehow sense I’m talking about him, and he might just suddenly pop up and give me a big slap in the face. With my scrawny self, I’d probably drop dead if he just poked me. And I’ve already used up my Resurrection Cross, so I’m not taking any chances.”

While Old Meng was saying this, he took out a small cloth pouch, grabbed a handful of powder, and sprinkled it onto the road they’d walked in on.

”Do you really need to be that careful? Is that what teleportation powder is for?”

Old Meng didn’t say anything either. After scattering the powder on their path, he nodded in satisfaction.

”Alright, if anyone tries to follow us, let’s give them a giant surprise loot box—random teleport!”

Old Meng laid out his bedroll, lit a campfire, leaned against the dirt wall, and went to sleep, cozy as can be.

”Hurry up and get some sleep. Tomorrow we’re setting off for Europa for a gig!”

”Going where?”

”Their Holy Land. We’re gonna spread rumors about the devil.”

”Old Meng, you really hold a grudge, don’t you.”

...

Early next morning, at Wen Yan’s place: him, Sparrow Cat, and Little Zombie.

Plus Gao Caikeng, who maxed out his credit cards, blew a ton of cash at a colleague’s wedding trying to look generous, and now can’t even afford breakfast—but still insists on eating breakfast, so he showed up at Wen Yan’s to mooch a meal.

After a simple and comforting breakfast, Wen Yan felt like the whole person had been awakened, so much better.

Sparrow Cat and Little Zombie, meanwhile, got sleepy right after eating and were about to go take a nap.

One says zombies sleep in the daytime, but just wanted to have breakfast with Wen Yan first, so eat first, then sleep.

The other says cats are nocturnal, eat small meals but often, so it makes sense to get up for breakfast, then go back to sleep.

Of course, Wen Yan also thinks breakfast is better with some commotion, so he just let them be.

After finishing up, he handed a supplementary card to Gauss, helped Gauss link it to his mobile payments, and then pulled out a POS machine so Gauss could make his first transaction.

Five thousand and thirty—thirty was the fee. Wen Yan then transferred five thousand in cash to Gauss and told him to go easy on spending it.

After all, you can’t use credit cards to buy street food.

”Take it easy, your salary’s already been paid out all the way through next year.”

”I don’t want to, either, it’s just so tough...” Gauss sighed dramatically, musing, ”I heard a nurse at the hospital say her salary’s even lower than mine, and she still has to raise a kid. I don’t know how they survive, and she even manages to buy makeup. I hear that stuff is crazy expensive...”

Wen Yan rolled his eyes. With the way you blow money, nobody could keep up without a gold mine at home.

After breakfast, Pei Tugou pulled up out front in the company’s old beater and asked if Wen Yan wanted a ride to work. Wen Yan thought for a sec, waved him off, and had Pei Tugou take Gauss along. Wen Yan went back inside and flopped on the sofa, turning on the TV.

He gave the director a call.

”Hey, boss, is there anything at the museum you need me for today?”

”Nope, you’re good. No need to come in.”

The director replied super fast and bluntly.

Now he kind of wishes he could smack himself. Boredom really makes you do dumb stuff, like giving Wen Yan a job to do.

Just give Wen Yan a job, and boom, something’s gonna happen. Even if it isn’t Wen Yan’s fault, he still ends up digging something up.

Better just stop while you’re ahead. Let Wen Yan rest. The museum isn’t short on the little bit of salary every month—peace and quiet is priceless.

Wen Yan hung up, stretched out some more, watched TV for a bit to help digest, and while he was at it, gave Cai Heizi a call to talk about what he’d heard from Old Meng last night.

...

At the mountain-movers’ site, routine digging had just begun, but work stopped right away.

They’d dug into a section of the previously collapsed tunnel, but also found other new stuff.

Inside the rocky mountain, tons of skeletons had been uncovered, so the whole operation was put on hold. Scorching Sun Department folks showed up right away, and now they’d have to call in the archaeology team for a look.

No way to keep going today, so almost the entire construction crew was sent on break under the name of archaeological discovery.

Scorching Sun Department was spooked about all the skeletons getting dug up, scared of a mishap.

After half the day, the archaeology team finally arrived. And word was, they’d already found at least a few dozen skeletons of considerable age, so a big crowd showed up.

If this were Guanzhong County, you’d be lucky to have seven or eight people show up in half a day—everyone’s always crazy busy there.

Cai Qidong didn’t come. Feng Yao showed up on his behalf, and in less than an hour, someone came to tell Feng Yao the preliminary results.

”Roughly six hundred to four hundred years ago, based on what’s left of the clothing is the preliminary assessment.

We’ll need to get back and run some proper tests with equipment for more details.”

”Is it a group burial site?”

”Doesn’t look like it. There’s no sign of tombs at all—it’s just regular wild ground.

But it also doesn’t look like there was a battle here that turned into a mass grave.

The rock here isn’t the super-hard kind, but it’s not something that would form in just a few hundred years either.

We checked the surveys, and they say the early exploration found that beneath this mountain is a single solid block of stone.”
