Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Huo Bei responded and went into the dense forest on the island with Jin Bo.

About an hour later, both of them came out carrying a large pile of firewood, placing it on the most conspicuous high ground on the island, and then went back for more.

After four or five trips, they had piled up a heap of firewood like a small mountain.

Jin Bo stood there, glanced at his feet, and drew a cross.

The two of them placed some firewood on it, then went to the gathering place to start a fire. In a moment, a red cross-shaped SOS signal came to life, looking very conspicuous.

Jin Bo and Huo Bei exchanged a glance, ”Let’s go find some more firewood.”

They went to search again.

Huo Jinnan and the others moved over here, with some resting, some adding fuel to the fire, and others out hunting.

Before long, Yu Zimu brought over two wild rabbits, and Qin Shaojin caught a few fish.

By the time they had finished roasting the meat, Jin Bo and Huo Bei had already brought over several days’ worth of firewood.

After resting and eating, Xiaoqi licked his lips and looked at Huo Jinnan, ”Dad, I want to drink water.”

Huo Jinnan placed Xiaoqi on the side, ”Dad will go find some for you.”

Just as he finished speaking, Jin Bo spoke up, ”There’s no spring on the island. Huo Bei and I will go inside to see if there’s any accumulated rainwater.”

Huo Jinnan acknowledged, furrowing his brows, then looked at the soil on the island and gathered some, instructing Yu Zimu to try mixing it with rainwater to shape it into a small pot, then placing it in the fire to bake.

Yu Zimu looked at Huo Jinnan, ”Brother Huo, will this work?”

Huo Jinnan didn’t respond.

If it’s kaolin, it certainly will.

He hadn’t studied this before and couldn’t recognize it, plus kaolin doesn’t usually exist in this kind of place.

Yu Zimu sat quietly on the side, watching.

Huo Jinnan also watched, and a moment later saw the clay pot crack open.

He poked it with a stick to take a look, shook his head, ”Come with me to take a look around and see if there are any stones or the like.”

Yu Zimu followed Huo Jinnan as they scoured the island.

Huo Jinnan found a stone and started grinding it with another stone.

Yu Zimu watched, thinking maybe a pot could really be fashioned from this stone! It looked a bit like one, but it was too thick.

However, doing it this way would probably take a long time.

But if they could really make a pot, even without spring water or rainwater, they could distill seawater to give the kids some to drink; otherwise, at this rate, no one would last.

...

When Huo Bei and Jin Bo returned, Yu Zimu and Huo Jinnan were nowhere to be seen.

Jin Bo looked at Qin Shaonan and Qin Shaojin, ”Where are Yu Zimu and Huo Jinnan?”

Qin Shaojin replied, ”They went into the forest too.”

Jin Bo acknowledged with an ”Oh”, holding a large leaf in his hand, and looked at Xiaoqi, ”Come here, to Uncle.”

Xiaoqi’s lips were dry, and he walked over to Jin Bo.

Jin Bo looked at the little girl, who normally looked like a fairy, now—

His heart ached as he placed the rolled leaf to her lips.

Xiaoqi took a sip; there was only a little water, not enough, gulped it down, but was still thirsty.

Jin Bo picked up Xiaoqi, ”Uncle will take you to drink from the forest.”

Xiaoqi agreed with an ”Mm” and wrapped her arms around Jin Bo’s neck.

Huo Bei glanced over and picked up Xiaoliao.

Wen Nuan, Qin Shaojin, and Qiao Qiao, alongside Qin Shaonan, also carried the children into the forest.

It was morning, and there were lots of dew droplets on the leaves. Gathering them for the kids to drink helped quench their thirst.

But what about noon and evening?

There were no containers, no way to collect and store it.
