Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Che Huan bit her lip, her voice choked with emotion, ”It means either not too bad or very bad, doesn’t it?”

Huo Jinnan pulled Che Huan away from him, his eyes lowered as he looked at her, and helped her wipe away her tears, ”Isn’t it good to be a little silly?”

Che Huan punched Huo Jinnan hard in the chest and then leaned into his embrace, her face deeply buried in his shirt.

Huo Jinnan looked down at her, his voice solemn and deliberate, ”I promise Mom will be alright, she won’t need an amputation.”

Che Huan looked up at him, her nose tingling, ”You’re not a doctor.”

”Don’t you trust me?”

”...”

Che Huan did not respond, but hearing him say that, she felt much better.

Before the worst could happen, let her cling to that sliver of luck, that trace of hope!

That night, Che Huan kept vigil in Wen Ru’s hospital room. She was almost dozing off when a nurse came in, and she immediately woke up, her eyes sharp and alert.

Huo Jinnan stood to the side, lit a cigarette, and took a deep drag.

At one in the morning, after the nurse had changed a set of medicine and just left the room, she saw Huo Jinnan follow her out.

Being alone in front of the man she idolized, the nurse’s heartbeat accelerated uncontrollably, ”Mr. Huo!”

Huo Jinnan looked at the nurse, ”After this set of medicine is done, don’t come back until I press the nurse call button to change it.”

”Okay... Yes, Mr. Huo.”

The nurse’s voice was excited; just having this man’s gaze on her made her heart flutter!

Seeing the nurse stand there in a daze, Huo Jinnan said in a low voice, ”You can leave now.”

The nurse snapped back to reality, not daring to look at the man’s expression, and beat a hasty retreat.

Huo Jinnan sat on the sofa and smoked a cigarette, looking at Qin Moting seated in the wheelchair in the living room, ”Mr. Qin, can your body handle it?”

Qin Moting looked at Huo Jinnan, ”Give me a cigarette.”

Huo Jinnan passed the cigarette box and lighter to Qin Moting.

Qin Moting took a cigarette, lit it, and took a drag, which revived his spirits considerably.

He looked at Huo Jinnan, ”I know my own limits when it comes to my body.”

Huo Jinnan thought back to when the doctor said Qin Moting had a brain contusion and brushed off the cigarette ash, looking up at him, ”What were you doing on April 20, twenty-three years ago, Mr. Qin?”

Twenty-three years ago, April 20?

Qin Moting looked at Huo Jinnan, ”Why do you ask?”

Huo Jinnan put out the cigarette between his fingers, ”Is it inconvenient to answer?”

Qin Moting did not respond, smoking as if he was reminiscing.

Huo Jinnan waited patiently.

After a while, Qin Moting finally looked at Huo Jinnan, ”That day, I went to see your elder sister Huo Jinyun.”

Huo Jinnan toyed with the cigarette in his hand, ”Just a visit?”

”...”

”If it’s inconvenient for Mr. Qin to answer, you don’t have to.”

Qin Moting came back to his senses, ”It was just a simple visit.”

Huo Jinnan’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, but he said nothing more.

Qin Moting remembered the date and looked at Huo Jinnan, wondering what was special about that day.

He thought for a long time but couldn’t pinpoint what was so special, it was an ordinary day like any other.

...

After sitting for about an hour, Huo Jinnan stood up, entered Wen Ru’s hospital room, and saw Che Huan had fallen asleep at the head of the bed. He walked over, bent down to pick her up, carried her out of the room, and into the nearby rest room.

Returning to the living room, he saw Qin Moting had entered Wen Ru’s room. Walking over, Huo Jinnan’s brow furrowed lightly, ”Mr. Qin really knows how to seize an opportunity.”
