Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Huo Jinnan stood to one side, forcefully snuffing out the cigarette in his hand.

Qin Moting thought of the little guy’s words, turned a blind eye, and chatted with Che Huan as if basking in the warm spring breeze.

After a while, Huo Jinnan looked up at his wristwatch and his gaze fell on Che Huan, ”It’s getting late. Uncle Lu should be bringing over lunch.”

Che Huan stood up, ready to leave, when Qin Moting gently pressed his temple, ”President Huo, look at me, all alone with no one to bring me lunch, could I go over there and mooch a meal?”

Huo Jinnan casually tossed the cigarette butt in the trash can, ”Huanhuan, you go on ahead, I’ll take President Qin over.”

Che Huan glanced at Qin Moting. Although there was a significant age difference, he was a grown man and it was unclear where he’d been injured, possibly in a rather inconvenient place, so she uttered a ”Hmm” and left the ward.

Once Che Huan was gone, Huo Jinnan’s eyes, cold as a spring, swept over Qin Moting, ”The old drunkard’s not interested in the wine.”

...

Qin Moting didn’t argue or say a word. After the car accident, San’er didn’t call 120 but immediately called his friend Shen Mubai.

Since it was a private hospital, though reputable, it was not well known, so he inquired further.

San’er said Huo Jinnan’s mother and Che Huan’s mother were both staying here. Hearing this, even the usually cautious Qin Moting, strangely and without any further doubt, no longer questioned the hospital’s credentials.

He never did things he wasn’t sure about, so even now, he found it somewhat incredulous.

Later, his ward was arranged to be next to Wen Ru’s, and in that instant, he felt an indescribable pleasure, something he had never experienced before.

Huo Jinnan looked at the listless Qin Moting, ”Does President Qin still want to mooch a meal?”

”Of course,” Qin Moting said to the nurse, ”Crank up the bed, help me sit in the wheelchair.”

The nurse cranked up the bed and assisted him into the wheelchair.

Qin Moting looked at the nurse, ”Roll me to the next ward.”

Huo Jinnan stood there, thinking back to what Mother Wen had said, flicking away the ashes, his eyes growing much deeper.

Qin Moting sat calmly in the wheelchair, being helped out of the ward by the nurse.

Huo Jinnan threw away the cigarette he was holding and followed them out. Seeing Qin Moting enter Wen Ru’s ward, he made a call to Qin Shaojin, ”On purpose?”

Qin Shaojin lay in the hospital bed, smiling harmlessly, ”You know I always repay an eye for an eye. You dragged me to Fangli Village and got me half-paralyzed; I entertain your uncle and charm your mother-in-law.”

”A talent indeed.”

Huo Jinnan said just two words and hung up the phone.

Qin Shaojin threw his phone aside and glanced at one leg wrapped in a cast. If not for Huo Ge that day, his life might have ended in Fangli Village. He thought of the car accident he had back in Hong Kong, and his eyes grew a few shades gloomier.

The moment Wen Ru saw Qin Moting, her complexion suddenly turned as translucent as paper, and she stared fixedly in his direction without moving.

Seeing this, Che Huan softly called out, ”Mom, President Qin was in a car accident a few days ago, suffered some injuries, and is staying next door.”

Wen Ru remained silent, lying there stiff as wood. She hadn’t imagined that after more than twenty years, when they would meet again, it would be under such circumstances!

Qin Moting looked at Wen Ru; those eyes were just as he remembered, fixating on him, giving the sensation that they were etched deep into his bones.

Sitting in the wheelchair, he just watched her, feeling as if they were in a different world.

Sensing that the atmosphere was somewhat tense, Che Huan stood up, ”I will go to the restroom first.”

She quickly left the ward, leaving just Qin Moting and Wen Ru behind, and closed the door gently. She turned her head for another glance.
