Chapter 88: Chapter 88 — The Battle

Chapter 88 — The Battle

Victor stood across from Monkasa on the wooden platform.

The sounds of the surrounding training grounds seemed to fade into the background.

His eyes remained fixed on the Lava Rock Monkey before him.

Monkasa’s body was slightly hunched, his feet shifting in that strange rhythm Victor had seen before.

Victor recognized it immediately.

The Monkey Fist.

Monkasa suddenly moved.

Step.

Then—

He vanished.

Victor’s eyes widened.

Before he could properly react, Monkasa appeared directly in front of him.

A tornado-like mass of Spiritual Energy surrounded Monkasa’s fist, twisting around his arm in a violent spiral. The energy fluctuated rapidly, almost like a whirlpool compressed around his knuckles.

Victor had been so focused on observing the technique that he failed to properly prepare himself.

He could only raise his arms.

His forearms crossed in front of his body.

BOOM!

A sonic boom erupted across the platform as Monkasa’s fist slammed into Victor’s cross guard.

Pain immediately shot through Victor’s left arm.

His eyes widened.

Pain shot through his forearm, the force of the impact rattling his bones.

If I take a few more hits like that... it’ll fracture again.

The impact sent him flying backward.

Before Victor could regain his footing, his feet left the platform.

His body flew backward several feet before crashing onto the wooden surface.

He twisted as he landed, rolling across the platform.

But Monkasa didn’t give him a moment to recover.

Victor barely looked up before seeing the Lava Rock Monkey charging toward him.

Monkasa raised his leg.

He was trying to stomp directly onto Victor’s face.

Victor rolled away.

BAM!

The foot slammed into the platform where his head had been moments earlier.

What the hell?

Victor rolled again before planting his hands against the ground and launching himself upward.

His body flipped through the air before he landed on his feet.

He immediately looked toward Monkasa.

How can someone change that quickly?

Yesterday, Monkasa had been laughing and joking with him.

Now he was fighting like he wanted to tear Victor apart.

Victor lowered his stance.

Across from him, Monkasa was already preparing another Monkey Fist.

The strange footwork began again.

Step.

Spiritual Energy gathered around Monkasa’s body, following the rhythm of his movements.

Victor’s expression hardened.

The strange steps weren’t simply building power.

They were constantly shifting Monkasa’s position, making it difficult to predict where the next attack would come from.

Monkasa suddenly lunged forward.

His fist came crashing toward Victor.

This time, Victor was ready.

He activated Flash Step.

His body blurred sideways, narrowly slipping past the incoming fist.

Victor immediately turned and threw a punch toward Monkasa’s back.

He poured Spiritual Energy into the movement, driving his fist forward with everything he had.

But just before the attack connected—

Monkasa’s tail moved.

The thick tail whipped around and struck Victor’s arm, knocking his punch away.

Victor’s eyes widened.

His tail?

The attack had come from an angle Victor hadn’t even considered.

Monkasa spun.

His elbow came around in a vicious arc.

Victor immediately stepped backward.

The elbow swept past his face, close enough for him to feel the rush of air.

Victor continued moving backward until he had created some distance.

Sweat was already running down his face.

He hadn’t even been fighting for long.

Yet the pressure was already immense.

Victor took a breath.

Then he moved.

He couldn’t let Monkasa build another Monkey Fist.

Victor dashed forward.

His leg shot toward Monkasa’s stomach.

BAM!

The kick connected.

Monkasa’s eyes widened.

The force of the attack sent him skidding backward nearly ten feet across the platform.

His feet dragged against the wooden surface before he finally stopped himself.

Monkasa slowly looked down at his stomach.

Then back at Victor.

A grin slowly spread across his face.

He hadn’t expected that kind of power from a Rank 8 human cultivator.

But instead of being discouraged, Monkasa looked delighted.

The pain only seemed to make him happier.

His killing intent rose another notch.

Then he disappeared forward.

Victor’s eyes sharpened.

Monkasa began throwing jab after jab.

Victor blocked one.

Then another.

He slipped past the next.

A fist grazed his cheek.

Victor responded with a punch of his own.

Monkasa twisted aside, letting it pass.

Victor adjusted and threw another.

This time, Monkasa blocked.

They exchanged another.

Their movements became faster.

The two figures blurred across the platform, trading blows at a speed that would have been difficult for an ordinary Rank 9 cultivator to follow.

Neither gave ground.

Neither wanted to.

Victor began noticing something.

Monkasa rarely moved in a straight line.

Even when he attacked, his body was constantly shifting. His feet carried him from one angle to another, his tail helping him maintain balance or disrupt Victor’s attacks.

It made him difficult to read.

Every time Victor thought he had found an opening, Monkasa was already moving into another position.

And every time Monkasa thought he had Victor cornered, Victor’s Flash Step carried him somewhere else.

Then Monkasa used the Monkey Fist again.

Victor’s entire body tensed.

He immediately backed away.

That attack was different.

The Spiritual Energy surrounding Monkasa’s fist compressed tighter and tighter, the swirling mass growing denser with every step.

His head.

His arm.

His stomach.

Any of those places could end the fight if Monkasa landed one of those punches properly.

Victor couldn’t afford to overextend.

He constantly watched Monkasa’s feet, waiting for the rhythm to begin.

But Monkasa had his own problem.

Victor’s raw power was frightening.

Even without the Monkey Fist, every punch carried enough force to seriously injure him.

And Flash Step made Victor unpredictable.

At any moment, Victor could disappear from his line of sight and reappear somewhere else.

The longer they fought, the more obvious it became.

They were evenly matched.

Neither could gain a decisive advantage.

Minutes passed.

The pace of the battle never slowed.

The surrounding Lava Rock Monkeys began noticing.

One started to walk over.

Another turned his head.

Then another.

Soon, several were watching the battle between the human and the Lava Rock Monkey.

The noise began to rise.

”COME ON!”

”GET HIM!”

”KEEP GOING!”

Roars and cheers echoed throughout the cavern.

The wooden structures surrounding the training grounds seemed to tremble beneath the noise.

Victor barely noticed.

His entire world had narrowed down to Monkasa.

The two continued dashing back and forth across the platform, neither willing to give an inch.

By now, Victor had several bruises across his body.

A thin line of blood ran down the side of his face.

Monkasa wasn’t faring much better.

His cheek was swollen, his breathing had grown heavier, and blood stained parts of his body.

Yet neither stopped.

The surrounding monkeys only grew louder.

The battle had become entertainment.

A human fighting a Lava Rock Monkey.

And neither was willing to lose.
