High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2823: Chapter 1044: Bad News

”——In other words, because you are excellent enough to survive the adapter trials—if the experimental model were to be controlled by the Northern District Wizards, like this time, most of them would probably have gone mad in the initial phase.”

Korma licked the wine stains on her lips and naturally reached for the black Gem Cat, wrapping its tail around her little finger as if it were a furry ring.

Absolutely no sense of boundaries.

The black Gem Cat mumbled inwardly and twitched its tail, but couldn’t move it.

”Basic model? So you have an improved model, or a high-grade model?” It tried to wrest back control of its tail while sternly pressing on.

”I never said that.” The owner of the Sakura Pub smiled slyly but did not deny the possibility: ”——But you can guess so.”

The expression of the black Gem Cat grew a bit more serious.

It even forgot about its tail.

Korma’s behavior indicated that she was also bound by the Silence Contract—and what kind of secrets were protected by a Silence Contract that even a Big Wizard couldn’t bypass was chilling to think about for the black Gem Cat.

It cursed its body’s boring curiosity inwardly.

Just wanted to leave this damned place as soon as possible.

If possible, it hoped that the body receiving this memory tonight or tomorrow would be a bit wiser and give up the idea of continuing to participate in the Edge Academy project early.

”Have you encountered anything good recently?” The black Gem Cat finally regained its tail and immediately inconspicuously moved to the edge of the bar while surveying the empty pub: ”——You seem different from when you last had a divination, more cheerful.”

”Cheerful?”

Korma raised her hand, touched her cheek, and smiled self-deprecatingly: ”It’s inevitable. Now, apart from lightening my mind, I don’t know what else to do.”

”What do you mean?” The black Gem Cat curiously asked these three words while inwardly cursing its lack of principles.

The witch raised the bottle in her hand and breathed lightly: ”Originally, my purpose in promoting the establishment of the Edge Academy was very simple, just to find a way out for these Northern District kids. Unfortunately, what many people want doesn’t seem so simple...”

She shook her head, not elaborating on what wasn’t simple, just passing over it vaguely: ”...In short, too many coveters cause many twists and turns. Like a few days ago when Thomas defected, there were many voices in the Alliance quietly muttering things like, ’Not of my kind, certainly with different intent,’ ’newly wealthy villain, unable to remove the poor body.’ Simply because Thomas had a bit of alien blood. And you know, most at Edge Academy are those wizards with impure blood.”

Upon hearing that name, the black Gem Cat’s expression grew more somber.

The witch took another big drink of wine.

”——Originally, I thought that always giving in could earn others’ understanding, but the reality is that others only press their advantage.”

She closed her eyes, revealed a slight pained expression, and shook her head: ”Last time when you came to the North District, a team of the Northern District Wizards had an accident. I saw it. But I didn’t intervene, just let it happen. To this day, I don’t know if that choice was right or wrong. Sometimes I can’t help but wonder, if back then I lent a hand to those Wizards, would things be different now? Old Yao said I’m in a daze, that to break it, I need to pull myself out, not empathize with those low-level Wizards, need to see the world from a higher perspective... Now He is already a legend, so his words must be reasonable, right?”

She opened her eyes, looking expectantly at the black Gem Cat, as if hoping to get an affirmative answer from it.

The black Gem Cat clamped its tail and took a step back.

”Don’t ask me about this kind of thing.” Its head shook like a rattle: ”——After all, I’m just a cat, no, I’m not even a cat, I’m just a stone!”

...

...

The black Gem Cat left the Sakura Pub with a heavy heart.

Some things Korma said tonight made it vaguely uneasy, feeling that she had some unspeakable secret. But perhaps because it was just a stone, no matter how hard it thought, it couldn’t grasp what she wanted to say.

So it simply left the trouble to its body.

At night, after Zheng Qing finished his last class of the week, he returned to the dormitory, released the Art of Body Transformation, and, upon receiving the black Gem Cat’s memory, immediately understood the witch’s unfinished meaning.

”Does someone want to target the North District?” His tone was uncertain, looking for help from his two roommates: ”Fatty, has your editorial department received any news? What about the doctor?”

”I’m just a little wizard who hasn’t even passed the registered wizard assessment, don’t ask me to divine something with such risks, okay?” Xiao Xiao looked at someone helplessly: ”Risk coexists with destiny, what makes you think I can easily divine something that even a Big Wizard is powerless against?”

”The campus newspaper here doesn’t have any news either.”

Although Xin Fat Man was very interested in the ’possible impending incident’ Zheng Qing spoke of, he was also powerless, spreading his hands: ”The editorial department is a place for collecting and organizing events that have already happened, not the Astronomical Observatory predicting the future, and definitely not the school’s Divination Group.”

Zheng Qing sighed disappointedly.

He sighed a bit prematurely.

The next afternoon.

All students at Jiuyou Academy received a notification that today’s class meetings were canceled, First University implemented a curfew, no one was allowed out of the school after seven in the evening, and no one was allowed out of the dormitory after nine in the evening.

The students were in an uproar.

You know, it’s already summer now, and by seven in the evening, it’s not completely dark yet, and today is the weekend. How difficult it is to ’ground’ a bunch of energetic young Wizards.

Colorful paper cranes replaced willow catkins, becoming the busiest figures on campus today.

This time, the school did not cover it up.

The message spread quickly.

Another wizard patrol team disappeared in the Silent Forest. Like the last time, this patrol team was mainly composed of Northern District Wizards, but the difference was that this patrol team also included a Hui Zong.

Hearing the words ’Hui Zong,’ Zheng Qing immediately felt his scalp go numb, and instantly thought of that Little Mare in his class, the brown figure at Shanglin Garden’s Spring Hunting that openly said to him, ’I want to have a foal with you.’

”Is it Luna?”

He asked in a hoarse voice, nervously looking at Xin Fat Man who brought back the news—because students of Astronomy Class 08-1 were also volunteers at Edge Academy, the Fat Wizard knew Luna Huisu.

”No, it’s not her.” The Fat Wizard wiped the sweat off his forehead and shook his head: ”But it is a member of her race, and she has reportedly been invited by the school’s Divination Group to use bloodline divination to locate those wizards.”
