High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 604: Chapter 273 Uncle in the Bush_1

Compared with demons transformed from animals, plant-like demons are slow moving and dull-witted, but they outstandingly excel in perseverance. These creatures filled with fibrous substance in their bones are not afraid to compete in resilience with their prey.

Just like this vine monster entangled with the Absolution hunting team.

Although it never showed its face from the beginning, it successfully occupied the initiative in the field. When the hunters of Absolution attacked, it would hide, disappearing without a trace. When the hunters of Absolution retreated to establish a defense, it would suddenly stab a few spears from behind the disguise of the trees. When the hunters ignored it and tried to leave the forest, the vine monster pursued relentlessly, brandishing its vine whip and wooden spear.

Worse, this vine monster has the ability to shift plants and change positions. Even if there was a professional diviner in the hunting team, they would still occasionally fall into traps and be misled to move in the wrong direction.

It’s terribly frustrating.

”This cannot go on.” After tripping over a sudden vine under his feet yet again, Zhang Ji Xin, the main hunter of Absolution, finally got up angrily and shouted, ”If we keep stumbling, we won’t have left the forest when the northern monster arrives!”

The moving team simultaneously halted and looked at Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing rubbed his eyebrows and looked into the distance.

All he saw was lush greenery. Various types of fern plants and broad-leaved trees intertwined, firmly blocking his sight.

Ever since they left the temporary camp and started moving towards the edge of the forest, the vine monster used all its tricks to delay their steps. Even with the incredibly intuitive Blue Bird leading them, they still took many detours.

Before Blue Bird appeared, Zheng Qing had planned to use ’Barrel ambush,’ the spell that could burn down the entire forest, thereby ensuring that the vine monster, no matter how deep it hid, would not be spared.

However, this plan carried many risks.

On one hand, the raging fire could easily go out of control; considering the hunting team was deep in the forest, a small mistake could lead to them sharing the same fate as the vine monster: being incinerated. On the other hand, the thick smoke and blaze in the not-so-large Secret Garden were no less conspicuous than a signal flare; almost all logical-thinking demons could be attracted by this signal. Most demons possess basic logical thinking ability, unlike their savage relatives.

Of course, there are advantages to everything.

Just as a signal flare could attract other demons, it could also attract other hunting teams. However, after the warning and temptation from the puppet host, how the attracted hunting teams would interact with Absolution was anyone’s guess.

Fortunately, these concerns dissolved partly when Blue Bird appeared.

”How much further?” Zheng Qing glanced at Blue Bird and asked.

”A straight line distance of one thousand three hundred and thirty-four steps.” Blue Bird thought for a moment and gave a very specific number. At the same time, his wrist gave a slight tremble, and he swiped an air sword past Zheng Qing’s shoulder.

With the flash of cold light, a vine dropping from a nearby tree was shredded into pieces. But the fragments didn’t give up the struggle, still bouncing around in the grass. Then Xin Fat Man promptly stomped them into vine paste.

”Walk another three hundred and thirty-four steps.” Zheng Qing added indifferently, as if nothing had happened, ”We must ensure the safety of the team while using the spell... if anyone wants to take a hot bath now, they can sit down and rest for a while, and I can hand over the Five Elements Bagua Formation to them.”

No one made a sound.

Even Xin Fat Man, the most talkative and easily fatigued among them, kept his mouth shut - after all, just because he liked grilled meat didn’t mean he wanted to become grilled meat.

If this was on a flat surface, three hundred and thirty-four steps needed only one to two minutes to walk while leisurely pacing. But in the forest where bushes were growing everywhere and countless weeds covered the ground, especially considering the vine monster interfering, the Absolution hunting team took a full fifteen minutes to finish the journey.

”I’m not moving anymore... At worst, I’ll just be grilled meat!” Xin Fat Man stretched out his legs and sat down heavily, panting, adopting an attitude of ’a dead pig is not afraid of boiling water.’

However, before anyone else could say anything, he let out a strange cry and quickly jumped up from the ground.

Zheng Qing glanced at the ’vine stake’ slowly sinking into the ground underneath the behind of Xin Fat Man, shrugged, and commented, ”Great, seems that you’ll be highly spirited when we chant the spell.”

Zhang Ji Xin laughed breathlessly.

”Tw...twelve times as spirited! Absolution’s lead hunter, clutching his waist and laughing until the veins on his forehead bulged, stammered, ”I bet that Fat Man... Fat Man will chant the spell with twelve times the force, ha ha ha ha.”

”Do you need hemostatics? My freshly divined turtle shell ash has a great hemostatic effect.” Xiao Xiao also sincerely looked at Fat Man.

”Thank you!” Fat Man gripped his rear and gritted his teeth, ”Unless I’m mistaken, I’m the team’s apothecary!”

”Oh, is that so.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses and lowered his head to look at his notebook again.

”One minute break!” Zheng Qing raised the pocket watch in his hand, signalled everyone to focus, ”Adjust your spirits individually and then cast the curses as per the chant order!”

He then turned to Blue Bird, ”Swordsman, stay alert. You’re in charge of tactical protection.”

Blue Bird just nodded, saying nothing.

It was Diao’er, the purple mink in his cap who jumped out, baring its teeth and grinning, answering on behalf of him.

The rest time of one minute quickly passed.

During this period, Zheng Qing tied the ’transition Talisman’ around the arms of Xiao Xiao and others and adjusted their positions repeatedly.

”Watch my gesture!” Zheng Qing raised his arm, waved it as if to count a beat, signaling everyone to concentrate, ”Fat Man, section one...”

”Barrel ambush!”

He brought down his arm with force.

With a blue face, Xin Fat Man opened the Law book in front of him and roared gritting his teeth, ”Barrel ambush! Fire spread!!”

The volume of his roar was so high that his body seemed to inflate a little.

With his roar, one, two, three, and countless golden sparks suddenly appeared in the forest. They landed on the nearby tree branches, under the leaves, and hung on the tree tops and the top of the grass around, gently swaying.

It felt as if the forest had instantly stepped into a flourishing season of summer flowers.

It’s just that these ”flowers” lacked a bit of vitality and color.
