My Most Beautiful Fiancée

Mu Lin figured that since he’d helped them out so much, these prideful, prominent families were probably racking their brains trying to think of a way to repay him.

’So predictable.’

’I might as well take advantage of the situation.’

”Don’t just stand around here. Go check on Mom,” Mu Lin reminded her.

While Elder Li’s coma was a serious problem, Mrs. Li was awake. Li Xue had to at least show some concern, right?

At Mu Lin’s words, Li Xue snapped out of it as if waking from a dream. ”Oh, you’re right. How could I have forgotten about Mom?”

After waking up, Mrs. Li was resting with her eyes closed.

She usually had a lot to manage at home, and taking care of Elder Li kept her constantly busy. It was quite exhausting.

This was a good chance for her to rest.

Li Xue tiptoed in, only to have her mother’s eyes flutter open, making for an awkward moment.

”Xue’Er, you’re here? I was looking for you earlier. I was starting to feel lonely.”

Li Xue felt bad, too. ”Mom, I’m sorry. I was so focused on Grandpa’s situation.”

Mrs. Li smiled. ”This is a rare opportunity. Come, Xue’Er, keep your mom company for a while...”

Mu Lin, who was at the door, quietly backed out.

He turned around and came face-to-face with Li Yinhe.

Li Yinhe’s feelings were very complicated. On one hand, he couldn’t stand anything about Mu Lin; on the other, without Mu Lin, the Li Family would have probably collapsed long ago.

’Without Elder Li, would the Li Family even be the Li Family anymore?’

Li Yinhe had been in control of the Li Group for many years. However, the one person everyone in the company truly respected was still Elder Li. He had founded the Li Group with his own two hands and steered its course to the present day.

”Mu Lin, thank you,” Li Yinhe said.

Mu Lin replied, ”No need to thank me. Elder Li and Mom have been very good to me. It’s only right that I help them.”

The corner of Li Yinhe’s mouth twitched when he heard the word ”Mom.” He found it incredibly grating.

’Who said you could call her that?’

’And you dare say it’s only right? So what, if I’m not good to you, you’d just let me die if I were seriously injured?’

He found it hard to calm his turbulent emotions.

An unavoidable silence fell between them. To break it, Li Yinhe remarked casually:

”Our Li Family is usually generous and kind, and we don’t go around making enemies. Why would anyone want to kill us?”

Mu Lin said calmly, ”You might think so, but that’s because you don’t see the whole picture. There are actually quite a few. Wu Long, for example. Or the Yang Family.”

Li Yinhe looked up, his head starting to ache just thinking about it. Both of those names belonged to powers he couldn’t afford to cross.

”Do you really think so? Our disputes with them are purely business. Would it really escalate to a matter of life and death?”

Mu Lin smiled faintly. ”A life-or-death struggle? In their eyes, it’s no different from crushing a bug.”

Li Yinhe was horrified, but he had a point. Compared to them, the Li Family was just small fry.

The kind that could be wiped out in an instant.

They naturally wouldn’t have to worry about the Li Family putting up any resistance.

’He’s right!’

Li Yinhe couldn’t believe he was less perceptive than someone from the younger generation; he’d failed to grasp such a simple concept.

”Sigh, but we can’t even be sure who’s behind it. We don’t even have a chance to negotiate a settlement...”

But Mu Lin just laughed. ”Dad, don’t worry. Whether it’s Wu Long or the Yang Family, they have their own problems to deal with now. They won’t be coming after us again.”

”Don’t talk such nonsense! This is a hospital. If anyone from the Wu Family or Yang Family heard you, they’d definitely come looking for trouble.”

Mu Lin chuckled. ”It’s no big deal. Let them come if they want.”

Furious, Li Yinhe spun around and went back into the hospital room.

Seeing Li Yinhe enter, Mrs. Li smiled. ”Honey, I’m hungry. Can you get me something to eat?”

Li Yinhe asked, ”What do you want to eat?”

Mrs. Li smiled faintly. ”Anything is fine. You can pick!”

’What a headache…’ Li Yinhe said, ”How about some nutritious porridge, then? Once your digestion is better, you can have something else.”

Mrs. Li didn’t say anything, just letting Li Yinhe go and handle it.

After sending Li Yinhe off, Mrs. Li looked at Mu Lin and asked, ”Mu Lin, have you ever held Xue’Er’s hand?”

Li Xue jolted and exclaimed, ”Mom, why are you asking that!”

The veins on her neck bulged. She was truly flustered.

Mu Lin said, ”I grabbed her hand once in the heat of the moment, but not since then.”

Mrs. Li said, ”Oh, what a pity. A girl’s youth is precious and short. You mustn’t wait, or it’ll be gone before you know it.”

Mu Lin said, ”Ma’am, please rest assured. I have a plan. Perhaps you’ll be holding a grandchild before you know it.”

’Actually, I’m just planning to get out of here when the time is right.’

’This big city really isn’t for me. The quiet country life is a much better fit.’

Mrs. Li said, ”You two can go. I’d like to rest a bit more!”

A chance for some quiet rest was always hard to come by.

Mu Lin and Li Xue exchanged a complicated glance and hurried out.

When they got outside the room, they saw a crowd of patients heading in the same direction.

A commotion was building in the hospital.

’What’s going on?’

Mu Lin stopped someone to ask, ”Excuse me, what happened?”

The person said, ”You haven’t heard? The vice dean of the hospital was caught red-handed acting indecently. They’re about to haul him off to the authorities!”

’The vice dean?’ For some reason, Zhang Chunlei’s name popped into Mu Lin’s head, but he immediately dismissed the thought.

’There’s no way Zhang Chunlei would do something like that.’

’He’s such a good doctor. His character must be solid.’

Li Xue thanked the passerby, then shot Mu Lin a sideways glance. ”You’re something else. Wasting time on gossip! Why don’t you put that energy toward improving yourself for once?”

Mu Lin was unfazed. Li Xue would find a way to criticize him no matter what, so it made no difference what he said or did.

Suddenly, Li Xue pulled out her phone and saw a message from her best friend, Ye Qiushui.

Ye Qiushui: Check it out, this is wild!

’What could it be?’ Li Xue wondered. She tapped open the video and was stunned.

A young woman in a nurse’s uniform was sobbing, tears streaming down her face as she grabbed Zhang Chunlei’s wrist and tried to drag him away.

Zhang Chunlei had an awkward expression on his face. He tried to pull his hand away but seemed afraid the hysterical girl would fall, leaving him in a difficult position.

Ye Qiushui: Vice dean of a major hospital uses his power to bully an intern nurse. This is big news!

Li Xue was stunned. ’This is exactly what that person was talking about!’

”I can’t believe Doctor Zhang is that kind of person!” Li Xue was dumbfounded. ”I wonder if he got handsy with Mom when he was treating her.”

’Li Xue has some imagination,’ Mu Lin thought, then said, ”What are you even thinking? Are you wishing for Mom to be well or for something bad to have happened to her?”

”Of course I want Mom to be okay, but if Doctor Zhang is that kind of person, can we still trust him?”

Mu Lin said seriously, ”Zhang Chunlei is a very responsible doctor. I believe he wouldn’t do something like that.”

Li Xue pointed at the video. ”But the video can’t be fake, can it? And a girl wouldn’t risk her own reputation to falsely accuse Zhang Chunlei, would she?”

Mu Lin thought about it carefully. ”Not necessarily.”

’My master always said that the human heart is treacherous and one must always be on guard. For the right price, people are willing to kill, let alone ruin someone’s reputation with a few lies.’

Li Xue didn’t agree with Mu Lin’s assessment. ”Hmph, we’ll see!”

After the incident, the hospital immediately held an internal meeting to discuss how to handle Zhang Chunlei’s misconduct.

Zhang Chunlei’s face was dark, his voice booming, ”I didn’t do any such thing! You’re just a young woman who grabbed my hand and started dragging me! To stoop to this level to slander me… you’re shameless!”

”Watch yourself, Zhang Chunlei! This isn’t your operating room where you can do whatever you want! Do you think your little bit of power still works here?”

A female doctor leaped to her feet, pointing at Zhang Chunlei and yelling.

He had often berated her harshly. Seeing that he was about to lose power, she eagerly jumped at the chance to kick him while he was down.

The young nurse at the side began to cry even more wretchedly. Her figure and appearance were both top-tier, and her tear-streaked face, a picture of tragic beauty, made her look all the more helpless and pitiful.

’How wonderful it would be to have her as a girlfriend,’ many of the male doctors thought as they watched her.

This only made them hate Zhang Chunlei even more.

On top of that, Zhang Chunlei had always monopolized the hospital’s resources. Now, everyone was united against a common enemy, determined to oust Zhang Chunlei from his position as vice dean.

Dean Zhu sat at the front with a stern face. With a vice dean under him causing such a scandal, it reflected poorly on him as well.

”Stop crying and tell us what Vice Dean Zhang did to you!” The dean’s head was starting to ache from all the wailing.

The young nurse nodded. ”Okay. I went into Vice Dean Zhang’s office just now to deliver some documents. While he was looking at them, he told me to sit on his lap. I refused, and then he... he...”

As she spoke, the young nurse broke into sobs again, making everyone present clench their fists in anger.
