My Most Beautiful Fiancée

”You little brat, an old friend of mine has run into some serious trouble and sent someone to ask for my help. I’m leaving right away, and I don’t know when I’ll be back.”

”And you, stop lazing around and goofing off in this backwater. Ten years ago, a benefactor helped me out, and I promised that my direct disciple would one day marry her granddaughter to repay the favor.”

”Take this half of the Phoenix Jade Pendant and the letter and go find him.”

”Also, I’m borrowing the spending money you hid under the underwear in your closet. Of course, I left you some. It’ll be enough.”

”And last but not least, don’t get lazy and neglect your training. When your master returns, there will be a strict inspection.”

Looking at the ransacked room, Mu Lin crumpled the yellowed letter in his hand, feeling both angry and helpless.

’That old prankster! The cash I had stashed under my underwear was at least fifty thousand yuan.’

’Over fifty thousand in spending money? Ha, and you left me a few dozen bucks.’

After a long moment, Mu Lin heaved a sigh and resignedly began to tidy up the room, putting the trunk of clothes and the crooked bed back in their places.

’Whatever, whatever. A few dozen bucks is a few dozen bucks. At least I can get a few meals of dumplings out of it.’

Mu Lin carefully put away the Phoenix Jade Pendant and the letter.

...

「A few days later, in the Tian Wan District of Anhua City, Nanjiang Province.」

The Tian Wan District, as it turned out, was filled with massive villas, each covering hundreds of square meters.

”Looks like the fiancée my master picked out for me is the daughter of a wealthy family,” Mu Lin said, hoisting the duffel bag on his back. ”A villa here must cost tens of millions, if not a hundred million. How many of my master’s ’allowances’ would it take to afford one of these?”

”Hey, stop! Yeah, you. Where did a country bumpkin like you come from? This isn’t a place for you. Scram before I make you.”

A middle-aged man in a black security guard uniform held a riot baton, sneering at Mu Lin. His voice was filled with disgust and contempt.

Mu Lin gave a seemingly casual toss, throwing the securely wrapped half of the Jade Pendant into the guard’s arms. ”I’m looking for someone.”

The guard was forced to catch the Jade Pendant as it flew at him, but an invisible, immense force sent him staggering back three steps!

’This guy is no joke!’ The guard was stunned. He had been an A-rank mercenary, but after suffering a severe, irreversible injury, his team had abandoned him. That was why he had to hide his identity and take a cushy job at this villa.

Even so, an ordinary man—or even several men attacking him at once—would have had a hard time forcing him back a few steps.

”I’m looking for Mr. Li Hao. Take this Jade Pendant to him and tell him the direct disciple of an old acquaintance is here to repay a debt.”

The guard lowered his riot baton, his tone softening. He knew how to read people.

”Wait here. And don’t even think about coming in.”

Then the guard picked up the landline by the window and spoke a few sycophantic words. After hanging up, his expression changed completely.

”Mr. Li’s family lives in Villa Number Nine. Just follow the main road straight in.” After speaking, he held out the Jade Pendant to return it to Mu Lin.

Mu Lin took it nonchalantly. ”Thanks.”

After Mu Lin left, the guard rubbed his sore stomach and muttered to himself, ”Where did that monster come from? That really hurt.”

As Mu Lin walked, he saw that every inch of the place was meticulously maintained. Never mind the gorgeous Louis XIV roses blooming by the roadside; even the lush, green decorative grass looked tempting enough to take a bite out of.

Even though Mu Lin walked quickly, it still took him nearly half an hour to reach his destination.

Villa Number Nine was a picture of understated luxury.

Mu Lin straightened his clothes, walked up, and lightly pressed the doorbell twice.

After a moment, a middle-aged man in a Filipino domestic helper’s uniform came out and opened the door for Mu Lin.

”Please follow me, sir.”

Mu Lin raised an eyebrow and replied politely, ”Thank you.”

Mu Lin followed the man through the front hall, across a garden, down a wisteria-covered corridor, over an artificial river, and past an artificial lake. After winding around for more than twenty minutes, they finally stopped in front of a European-style building.

The main door was open. The Filipino man gestured with one hand. ”Please, come in.” He then invited Mu Lin to sit on a plush leather sofa to one side of the living room.

”Please have a seat. The master and his family will be down as soon as they are finished.”

Mu Lin just nodded. He didn’t stand on ceremony, plopping down unreservedly onto the obviously luxurious sofa.

A few minutes later, a beautiful, sweet-faced girl in a casual dress slowly descended the stairs.

’Hmm, this girl is quite a looker.’

The girl didn’t come all the way down. She just stood on the stairs, looking down at Mu Lin. Her soft, sweet voice carried a barely perceptible trace of disgust and contempt.

”Where is it?”

Mu Lin took out the Jade Pendant. He had already removed the wrapping on the way over.

As he was hesitating over how to hand it to her, the Filipino man who had led him in stepped forward, took the Jade Pendant, turned, walked up the stairs, and respectfully presented it to the girl.

The girl casually glanced at the front and back of the Jade Pendant. ”What’s your name?”

”Mu Lin.”

”Mm.”

The girl gave a faint acknowledgment. If the hall hadn’t been so quiet you could hear a pin drop, an ordinary person might not have even heard it.

The brightly lit living room seemed vast and empty with only the three of them in it.

Mu Lin’s lips curved into a slight smile. ’Sounds like there are a lot of people in one of the rooms upstairs. They aren’t even trying to walk quietly.’

It seemed Li Xue’s family had no intention of dealing with Mu Lin. He didn’t mind. ’That old prankster really is unreliable. This family is clearly no ordinary wealthy household. They’re loaded.’

’I honestly don’t know where my old master gets his confidence, daring to have me marry into their family to repay a debt.’

’How am I supposed to explain this later?’

He had to admit, his master’s abilities were nothing short of divine, but he was too thin-skinned to say something like that out loud.

’If I say, ”I’m marrying your daughter to repay a debt for my master”... I could never say something so shameless.’

Li Xue glanced at Mu Lin, then turned and went upstairs without the slightest hesitation.

”You sit there. Butler, don’t let him move or touch a single cup. You know the value of everything here. If one thing breaks, your salary won’t be enough to cover it.”

”Yes, Miss.”

A minute later, Mu Lin felt a strange trace of True Qi seeping down through the floorboards from upstairs.

”Excuse me, could you get me a glass of sugar water? I’m a little hypoglycemic and feeling a bit dizzy.”

Mu Lin tilted his head slightly and smiled at the motionless butler standing beside him.

The butler finally moved. ”Please wait a moment.”

The moment the butler left, Mu Lin strode unhesitatingly toward the stairs.

That strange wisp of True Qi had unsettled him, and he could no longer be bothered with etiquette.

”Divine Doctor, is my father going to be all right?” an anxious male voice called out from an open room on the second floor.

”My skills may not be omnipotent, but a small problem like Elder Li’s is nothing to worry about. It’s just a relapse of an old illness. Once I administer a few needles to smooth out his meridians and regulate his Qi and Blood, he will be fine.”

The old, kind voice reassured the man.

”My grandfather has been in a coma for two days. Please, Divine Doctor, you must save him quickly,” came the highly recognizable, soft, sweet voice from inside.

By the time Mu Lin reached the doorway, he saw a white-haired old man in blue and white robes methodically flicking out several long, thin silver needles. The needles embedded themselves perfectly into various acupoints on the old man lying in the bed.

Mu Lin frowned. ’Something’s wrong. If this goes on, it could kill the patient!’

’The old man on the bed must be Mr. Li Hao, Elder Li. He was my master’s benefactor, and I’m here to repay that debt. I can’t let him be harmed and die in front of me before the debt is cleared.’

Mu Lin spoke firmly. ”Not only will this Divine Doctor’s needles fail to save him, but they will shorten the old gentleman’s life by at least five years.”

The abrupt, unfamiliar voice rang out from the doorway.

Instantly, all eyes in the room focused on Mu Lin.

”How rude—!” Li Xue’s face changed drastically, her fury nearly making her lash out. ”Who let you up here! Where is the butler! Get out!”

Next to Li Xue stood an elegant middle-aged couple. The heavy, dark circles under their eyes, likely from days of stress and exhaustion, were impossible to ignore. They exuded an aura of utter weariness.

”Hah. An ignorant child,” the Divine Doctor sneered, clearly displeased at being interrupted.

The middle-aged man, the head of the household, quickly tried to placate the Divine Doctor. ”Please, Divine Doctor, don’t lower yourself to this boy’s level. My father’s health is in your hands.”

After soothing the old Divine Doctor, the middle-aged man immediately turned to rebuke Mu Lin at the door.
