High School DxD: Return of the Crimson Dragon Emperor

Chapter 397: Chapter 387 It can wipe out veteran Fallen Angels that easily...?

It can wipe out veteran Fallen Angels that easily...?

The scale was wrong. It was simply too different—too vast. They say it rivals Great Red, and looking at it now, I realized that even God-class beings must look like gnats to a thing like that.

But Trihexa wasn’t our only problem.

”Yuto! We’re moving in!”

”Right!”

I lunged forward at Maurice’s call. Clad in my Knight King form, I gripped my Holy-Demonic Sword and closed the distance with the Evil Dragons. I had imbued the blade with Dragon Slayer properties—a technique I’d originally developed to fight Siegfried. I was glad now that I had mastered it. At the level I had reached—beyond the standard Balance Breaker—I could do this.

”Haa!”

With a single, vertical strike, I cleaved a mass-produced Evil Dragon in two. It crumbled into dust before it even hit the ground.

I didn’t stop. I accelerated, a blur of motion, reaping the lives of the Evil Dragons as I passed them.

How many did that make? Between the battle on Agreas and this current nightmare, I had lost count. A hundred? Two hundred? It was likely far more.

”Take this!” Maurice roared, swinging two blades stained a deep, abyssal black.

A black cyclone erupted, a localized hurricane that shredded the nearby Evil Dragons and clones into nothingness. Without missing a beat, he unleashed a flurry of black sword-waves, clearing a path through the swarm ahead.

The way was open. Maurice glanced back at Xenovia.

”Xenovia! You ready?!”

Behind us stood Xenovia, holding her twin holy swords—Excalibur and Durandal—high toward the heavens. A terrifying amount of holy aura pulsed from the blades.

She flashed a defiant, predatory grin.

”Yeah, more than ready. Let’s go, Durandal! Excalibur!”

As she brought the blades down, the holy energy she had been charging was unleashed in a blinding surge. Maurice and I dove to the side just as the massive pillar of light tore through the air.

It was a holy strike that gouged the earth and reached the very vault of heaven. It swallowed everything in its path—the Evil Dragons nearby and even the Red Dragon Emperor clones far in the distance.

When the light faded, only a massive scar in the earth remained. Steam rose from the scorched trench, a silent testament to the raw power of the legendary holy swords.

Xenovia wiped her brow, her breathing heavy. ”I’ve gotten a bit more flashier, wouldn’t you say? That should have thinned their numbers considerably.”

You’ve always been flashy, I thought, though I had to admit she’d made a dent.

Maurice gave a strained laugh. ”Sorry for making you play the heavy artillery. But in this group, there aren’t many who can pull off a wide-range wipe like that. I know I’m pushing you hard.”

The three of us were fighting as a specialized cell.

I took point, using my speed and the versatility of the Holy-Demonic Swords to cull the mass-produced dragons. Maurice handled the frontline slaughter while also using his high-tier techniques to eliminate the more dangerous Red Dragon Emperor clones. And while we held the line, Xenovia charged the holy swords to wipe out the distant reinforcements.

However, because Xenovia was firing at full output every time, the drain on her was immense.

”Don’t worry about it,” she replied firmly, wiping sweat from her face. ”I’m just doing the most I can. Since Issei isn’t here, we have to fight twice as hard to make up for him.”

She was right. Issei-kun wasn’t with us. He had collapsed after bringing down the leader of Qlippoth, Rizevim Livan Lucifer. He’d apparently lost consciousness after a conversation with the otherworldly god, Assem.

Currently, he was being moved to a hospital in the Sitri territory through Sona-senpai’s connections. I only hoped he was alright.
