Venerated Venomous Consort

The little wolf kept looking at her with its bloodshot eyes. All of a sudden, it grabbed the hem of her dress and started to pull her away, like it was trying to take her somewhere.

She stood in bewilderment. “Where are you taking me to?” She asked.

The wolf gave her a low purr and continued to pull.

Gu Xijiu did not quite understand its intention. “All right, all right. Stop pulling me. I will go with you.” She finally gave in. Was it trying to tell her that there was somebody else who needed her help?

The wolf was able to understand the human language so as soon as Gu Xijiu agreed to go with it, it turned around and started racing in the direction from which it came. While running, it turned its head around for a few times, for fear that Gu Xijiu might not catch up with it.

Gu Xijiu followed the wolf closely. “Don’t worry. Since I have promised to go with you, I will definitely go with you. Keep running.”

Thus, the little wolf started to speed up. Gu Xijiu always knew that she was destined to meet with many majestic beasts from every corner of the world. She had met many as it was; for example, the mussel, Lu Wu, and the Clouded Leopard King.

What she did not expect was that she would receive a child someday. It was a child that she could not abandon. The fair-skinned child was only two or three months old, with big, bright eyes, long lashes, and crimson cheeks. The baby was now wrapped in a baby blanket.

The wolf needed Gu Xijiu to save the baby. He was found under a big tree. Two bodies were lying not too far away from him. The woman was wearing a white dress, while the man was lying close to her in green robes.

The man and the woman were doomed to the same fate. Both of them were severely hurt. The man was already dead by the time Gu Xijiu checked on him, but the woman was still alive, though with weak breaths.

Gu Xijiu took a quick look and was able to identify the man from the look of his green robes. He must be one of Yun Yanli’s men. Who was the woman, then?

An enemy’s enemy was a friend after all. Undoubtedly, Gu Xijiu went on to treat the woman’s wound but soon gave up. The woman was too critically wounded, beyond any cure. She was merely lingering on her last breaths of life.

Gu Xijiu was ready to leave, but the woman noticed her movements and opened her eyes. She looked at Gu Xijiu, desperately trying to tell her something, but could not get her words composed.

Gu Xijiu bent and fed her a pill. The pill was not able to turn her life around, but it could, at least, give her some strength for a short recovery of consciousness before death. As expected, some radiance returned to the woman’s complexion. “Lady, please save… Save… Save Ling-Er,” she pleaded.

Gu Xijiu knew that Ling-Er was the baby that she had just found. “Don’t worry. I will save him,” she reassured.

She carried the baby in her arms. He seemed well. Quietly, his dark eyes were looking at Gu Xijiu fixedly.

“Take him… Closely with you. Do not… Let him get caught.” The woman looked at the baby and was loath to part with him. “If possible, please send him to… the Shura… Shura Devil Kingdom.”

Gu Xijiu was caught off guard by her request. With a sigh, she confessed, “I cannot enter into the Devil Kingdom. I tried, but was immediately burned.”

She rolled up her sleeves to reveal her burn. Trembling, the woman tried to hand her a red bottle. “Apply… Apply this. It is meant to treat the burn.”

Everything seemed fated. Gu Xijiu accepted the bottle.

“Please… I beg you. This child… This child…”
