Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 86: Chapter 86 Chiang Xiao’s Little Scheme

The residents of the town were much better off economically than those in their village. What’s the big deal about spending two dimes on a catty of wild vegetables?

Chiang Xiao was now full of ideas, and Chiang Songhai simply couldn’t win an argument with her. After hesitating for a moment, he agreed.

”Then I’ll come back again tomorrow afternoon.”

Chiang Xiao was about to agree when a sudden inspiration struck her mind, and she immediately stopped Chiang Songhai.

”Grandpa, do you think the Tianxiang Green here on the mountain is different from the ones in our village?”

”Hmm, the ones here on the mountain are much more tender and juicy,” Chiang Songhai nodded. To be honest, the wild vegetables in the village didn’t look too tempting, but looking at the tender shoots here made one’s mouth water just thinking about the delicious fragrance when they’re fried.

He added, ”That’s why I told you everything on Bai Gu Mountain is precious. Even the wild vegetables grow better.”

”Then let’s pick a few more catties. When we get back, we’ll send some to great-uncle, and also some of the mushrooms I picked. We’ll pick some of the better ones to send over.”

Chiang Songhai looked at Chiang Xiao in surprise. It had seemed from her words before that she wanted to sever ties with Old Chiang Family; why was she suddenly thinking of showing filial piety?

Where did Chiang Xiao’s filial piety for the people of Old Chiang Family come from?

She simply felt that since she prevented Chiang Songhai from sending rabbits earlier, she was worried that her grandpa might be a bit upset. Besides, they had a big harvest on the mountain this time. If they didn’t send a little something to Old Chiang Family, grandpa might inevitably feel guilty and uneasy later on.

Don’t underestimate these feelings of guilt and unease. If they accumulate, and if Old Chiang Family came to ask for things from them later, Chiang Songhai might feel too embarrassed to refuse.

Better she take the initiative now and send something over.

She knew the true character of those people at Old Chiang Family. These things wouldn’t earn them a single good word in return.

If they continued to court disaster, she could take the opportunity to stir the pot a few times, and then grandpa would see their true colors. In the future, he might not be so willing to send them anything.

So these things were still worth sending.

How could Chiang Songhai understand the intricate thoughts going on in Chiang Xiao’s mind?

When he heard her suggestion, he indeed felt very comforted.

”My Little Xiao is really good. Your great-uncle will definitely be happy,” he said, patting Chiang Xiao’s head. He grabbed a burlap bag and hurriedly began picking tender shoots.

It was getting late, so he had to move quickly.

Chiang Xiao moved to another area and worked with both hands, quickly picking tender shoots as well. However, she was throwing all the tender shoots she picked straight into Space.

This was her main goal.

She also needed to save up things that could be exchanged for money, to sell in town on the weekend.

If the family’s economic situation was to improve, she needed to build up her own personal little treasury as well! Painting was a costly discipline, and she didn’t want to put all that financial pressure on her grandpa. Moreover, she planned to take her grandparents out of the mountain village and buy a house in the city.

She picked tender shoots at a very fast pace, and by the time Chiang Songhai had picked four or five catties of them, she already had a small pile in Space.

Luckily, there were at least a hundred Tianxiang Green bushes in this thicket, and since it was spring, there were plenty of tender shoots.

Chiang Songhai stuffed the tender shoots into the burlap sack.

By the time they went around to where the rabbits were hidden, the sun was about to set.

The three wild rabbits were still well hidden there.

”Grandpa, put the rabbits at the bottom.”

Chiang Xiao, worried they might be discovered by people from the village, hurriedly reminded him.

Chiang Songhai naturally listened to her.

He placed the three wild rabbits into his basket, covered them with a thin layer of medicinal herbs, and carried the rest of the herbs in the burlap sack; he could still carry that much.

”Let’s go, hurry down the mountain, it’s even more dangerous here late at night.”

A smile spread across Chiang Songhai’s face; today’s harvest was big enough. With proper handling of these items tomorrow, they could definitely make a fair amount of money at the market the day after.
